Chapter 78
Victoria had always been the strong one, the one who never let anything bring her down. But as she lay in the hospital bed, her once vibrant eyes now dull and lifeless, Anna couldn't help but feel a sense of overwhelming sadness and helplessness. The poison that had been coursing through her sister's veins was slowly but surely destroying her from the inside out, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.
Anna sat by her sister Victoria's hospital bed, watching her pale face as she lay looking weak, a victim of a mysterious poisoning that had plagued her for months. The doctors had yet to determine the cause.
"Sis, who do you think has been trying to poison you?" Anna whispered, leaning in close. "Do you trust your husband wholeheartedly? He hasn't even been trying to find the culprit yet he has so many resources. He was supposed to have found the person responsible by now. Unless... unless if he is the one who is trying to kill you."
Victoria stirred slightly, her brow furrowing in her sleep. Anna continued, her voice low and urgent. "I mean, how could you have been poisoned for so many months and not notice? It has to be someone very close to you. I think Christian is the culprit."
Victoria lay in the hospital bed, her eyes fluttering open as she heard the urgent voice of Anna. She struggled to focus, her mind foggy from the effects of whatever poison was coursing through her veins. Anna's words cut through the haze, accusing her husband of poisoning her.
For a moment, Victoria's heart clenched with disbelief. Christian, her doting husband and father of their three children, could never do such a thing. But as she saw the desperation in Anna's eyes, she decided to play along.
With a determined glint in her eyes, Victoria mustered up her strength and turned to Anna. "If it's my husband who is trying to kill me, I will find out," she whispered hoarsely. "Please, go home and look after my children. Don't worry about me, I will be fine. I'm not going to die from this cruel poison."
Anna hesitated for a moment, her expression torn between concern for her sister and disbelief at the accusation she had just made. But ultimately, she nodded, her eyes full of unspoken promises to uncover the truth.
As Anna left the hospital room, Victoria closed her eyes and let out a deep breath. She could feel the effects of the poison weakening her body, but a fierce determination burned in her chest. She would not let this mystery poison defeat her.
With a newfound sense of clarity, Victoria began to piece together the events leading up to her hospitalization. She remembered feeling unwell every time Anna made her tea lovingly everyday. But as she struggled to recall the details, a shadow of doubt crept into her mind.
Could Anna really be capable of such a heinous act? She couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was amiss.
Was Serena right by suspecting her all along? She was just so happy to finally have someone to call a sister that she didn't even for a second doubt that Anna was not her sister. She remembered how Christian used to doubt her, until he finally came around, was he also right?.
But despite her efforts, the answers eluded her. She felt like she was chasing shadows, her mind clouded with uncertainty and fear.
Victoria did not suspect Anna until she insinuated Christian could be behind her poisoning, she trusted her husband with her life. She was just hoping Anna said all that nonsense because she was worried about her.
She waited for Christian to arrive before telling him about her suspicions.
Victoria lay awake in her bed, her heart pounding with an inexplicable sense of dread. Christian had returned and was sitting by her side. She turned to him, his face illuminated by the faint glow of the emergency lights, and searched his eyes for any hint of guilt or deception.
But all she found was love and concern, a familiar warmth that had always been her safe haven in times of trouble. And in that moment, Victoria knew that she had to confront the truth, no matter how much it hurt.
As the first light of dawn filtered through the hospital window, Victoria made her decision. With a steely resolve, she turned to Christian and asked him the question that had been haunting her since the moment she woke up in that hospital bed.
"Did you poison me?" she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and longing for the answer she dreaded to hear.
Christian's eyes widened in shock, his hand reaching out to grasp hers in a desperate plea for understanding. And as he opened his mouth to speak, Victoria saw the truth written in his eyes.
"No, my love," he said, his voice breaking with emotion. "I would never do such a thing. I swear on our children's lives."
Tears welled up in Victoria's eyes as she looked into Christian's soulful gaze, feeling the weight of his words like a physical burden on her shoulders. And in that moment, she knew that she had been wrong to doubt him, to let fear and suspicion cloud her judgment.
With a trembling sigh, Victoria let go of the accusations that had plagued her mind since Anna's visit, letting the love and trust that had sustained her marriage for so long wash over her like a cleansing tide. And as she lay back on the hospital bed, Christian's arms wrapped around her in a protective embrace, she knew that they would face whatever challenges life threw their way together, stronger than ever before.
And as the first light of dawn broke through the hospital window, Victoria closed her eyes and let out a contented sigh, her heart at peace and her soul filled with the certainty that love would always conquer fear in the end. And in that moment, she knew that she was truly, deeply, and irrevocably loved.
Now the question was, what was Anna's motive for trying to drive a wedge between her and Christian?
