Chapter 77
Victoria had always been a hard worker. She spent long hours at her company constantly pushing herself to meet deadlines and exceed expectations. Christian was always worried that she was working too hard, between the office and taken care of the children she never had time to rest.
But as the days went on, Victoria started feeling more and more fatigued. She struggled to get out of bed in the mornings, and even simple tasks felt like insurmountable challenges. Christian could see the toll that her job was taking on her, and he urged her to take a break and focus on her health.
One morning, Victoria woke up feeling even worse than usual. Christian took one look at her pale face and decided that enough was enough. He called Colin and told him that he wasn’t going to work, and also to tell Victoria’s employees that she wouldn't be coming in to work that day. He bundled her up in a blanket and drove her straight to the hospital.
Christian held Victoria's hand tightly, trying to reassure her that everything would be okay. Victoria couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled in the pit of her stomach. She knew that something was seriously wrong.
When they were finally saw the doctor, Victoria braced herself for the worst. She was shocked when the doctor told her that she wasn't pregnant, as she had suspected, but instead, she had been poisoned. Slowly, over the course of several months, someone had been slipping toxic substances into her food and drink.
The news sent a chill down Victoria's spine. Who could have done such a thing to her? And why? As the doctor explained the severity of the poisoning, Victoria felt a surge of fear wash over her. Was she in danger? Was Christian in danger? Were their children and Anna in danger?
Christian, too, was horrified by the revelation. He couldn't believe that someone had been deliberately harming his wife, the love of his life. His mind raced with questions and possibilities, but one thing was clear - he would do whatever it took to protect Victoria and find out who was behind this heinous act.
As they left the hospital, Christian made a vow to himself. He would not rest until he had uncovered the truth and brought the perpetrator to justice. He knew that it wouldn't be easy since the poisoning had been happening for months without him noticing, he always thought his wife was overworking herself, he was determined to find the person who dared to poison his wife, the disrespect.
Christian delved deeper into the mystery of Victoria's poisoning. He spoke to her employees , Serena and anyone else who might have information. But the more he searched, the more elusive the truth became.
Meanwhile, Victoria struggled to come to terms with what had happened to her. The realization that someone had been poisoning her for months gnawed at her, filling her with a mix of anger, fear, and disbelief. She couldn't understand why anyone would want to hurt her in such a cruel and calculated way.
As days went by she could feel her health deteriorating and she ask Christian to admit her at the hospital, she didn’t want her kids to see her like that.
With Victoria admitted at the hospital and her health deteriorating, Christian knew me had to call Serena to let her know about her friend, he needed someone he trusted to be by his wife's side when he starts to investigate who poisoned her.
He suspected someone from her computer or at home could have done it, the fact that they gradually poisoned her, it had to be someone close to her.
He made a call to Ethan to let them know that Victoria was hospitalised, and told him to tell Alex and Jake because he couldn't call all of them.
He also made a call to Old Mr and Mrs Chadwick and told them to expect the children. He had already told Anna to take the kids to the Chadwick residence. Even though Anna wanted to take care of the children, Christian was very firm and she eventually gave up and drove the kids to their great grandparents. Christian asked his great grandparents to tell the children that they had gone on a business trip for a few days, he also didn't want to worry them.
When Serena heard about her friend's poisoning she couldn't believe it, she immediately suspected Anna, again. She didn't understand how someone succeeded in poisoning Victoria in months without her realising or getting sick immediately. It had to be someone who was very close to Victoria and who else could it be if it wasn't Anna? She was the only one who had also been in Victoria for a few months.
Within a short period of time Victoria's condition started to get critical. The doctors were doing anything they can to find the name of the poison.
Victoria lay motionless on the hospital bed, her once vibrant blue eyes now dull and lifeless. The doctors huddled around her, furrowing their brows in frustration as they examined the results of yet another failed attempt to identify the poison that coursed through her veins. Christian stood by her bedside, anguish etched into every line of his face.
“It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” one of the doctors muttered, shaking his head in defeat. “We’ve run every test imaginable, but we still can’t pinpoint the toxin that’s causing her organs to shut down.”
Christian felt a surge of panic rise within him. Victoria had always been so full of life, so full of energy. To see her lying so still was unbearable. He turned to the doctors, desperation clouding his voice, “There has to be something we can do. Anything.”
The lead doctor sighed, rubbing his temples wearily. “We’ve exhausted all our options here. But there might be one last resort. We need to retrace Victoria’s footsteps, her daily events for the past few months. Maybe there’s something there that can lead us to the source of the poison.”
Christian nodded grimly, determination flickering in his eyes.
