Three days later, at the Young residence, the atmosphere was thick with tension and unspoken words.
Kyler walked inside the house, a determined look on his face.
Stephen and Noah trailed behind him, their expressions equally grim.
As they neared the living room, the sound of a heated argument echoed through the hallway.
Kyler quickened his pace, his heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
In the living room, Liam Harper and his father, James Young, were engaged in a fierce argument.
The air crackled with hostility, their voices sharp and accusatory.
Liam caught sight of Kyler entering the room and paused mid-sentence.
His silence drew the attention of Evelyn and James Young, who turned to look at Kyler with a mixture of relief and annoyance.
James’s voice was a blend of frustration and concern as he addressed his son. “Where have you been, Kyler? I’ve been calling you since morning.”
Kyler met his father’s gaze evenly. “I had work, Dad.”
Evelyn’s eyes flashed with irritation. “What could be more important than your wedding?”
James’s tone hardened. “Your wedding is set for this Monday.”
Kyler paused, his expression incredulous. “Are you kidding me?”
Evelyn’s voice was firm, leaving no room for argument. “We are not.”
Margaret Young, Kyler’s grandmother, looked at him with a mixture of sadness and resolve. “Zoe is a nice woman, Kyler. I have seen her grow up, and she loves you.”
Kyler’s voice was cold. “I don’t like her, Grandma.”
Liam, his patience wearing thin, stepped forward. “Tell me, what’s wrong with my daughter, Kyler?”
Kyler ignored him, his focus shifting to Noah and Stephen.
Noah stepped forward, handing Kyler a suitcase. Kyler opened the briefcase and revealed its contents. “This is the answer to your question.”
Liam’s face twisted in confusion and anger. “What’s the meaning of this?”
James moved closer, his eyes narrowing at the sight of the documents. “What’s this, Kyler?”
Evelyn picked up the receipts, her expression puzzled. “Why are you showing us transaction receipts?”
Kyler’s voice was icy and controlled. “These are all the receipts of Liam Harper’s crimes. He committed over the years. How he put his people in Young Industries, used our resources, tracked our data, and sold it for his benefits.”
Liam’s face turned pale, his voice rising in desperation. “What nonsense are you spouting?”
James examined the documents, his eyes widening as he recognized Liam’s signature on several of them.
He looked at Liam, disbelief etched on his face. He had treated Liam as family, yet here was the evidence of betrayal.
Liam’s panic was palpable as he grabbed the papers, his hands shaking. “You...”
Kyler’s eyes burned with a challenge as he met Liam’s gaze. “And that’s not it.”
Evelyn’s voice wavered with fear. “What do you mean?”
Kyler’s gaze shifted to his grandmother, then back to his parents. “Grandpa’s death wasn’t a coincidence.”
Margaret’s breath caught in her throat as she stood up, the mention of her late husband striking her like a blow. “What nonsense are you spouting now?” Liam’s voice was desperate, his eyes wide with fear.
Kyler’s tone was filled with cold fury. “Oh, nonsense?”
Margaret’s voice trembled as she spoke. “Speak already, Kyler. What do you want to say?”
Kyler’s eyes were filled with a dark resolve. “Grandma, it was planned. And the one who planned it was none other than Liam Harper.”
Margaret swayed, feeling faint. Stephen quickly moved to support her. Liam’s voice was loud and desperate, a man cornered. “I didn’t do anything. You’re talking nonsense!”
Kyler gave Noah a slight nod.
Noah understood immediately and inserted a USB into the TV.
The screen flickered to life, showing footage of Liam’s assistant, Mike, spilling everything.
He detailed how they had planned to cause a heart attack in Kyler’s grandfather and the footage showed them mixing drugs into his tea or drink.
The room fell into a heavy silence as the footage played.
Margaret’s eyes were fixed on the screen, her expression a mixture of horror and rage. The color drained from Liam’s face as the evidence played out before them, his last shreds of denial crumbling under the weight of undeniable proof.
Margaret turned to Liam, her eyes blazing with fury. “How could you? We trusted you, treated you like family. You killed my husband!”
Liam stammered, his composure completely shattered. “I... I didn’t mean for it to go that far. It was just supposed to be a scare.”
Kyler’s voice cut through the room like a blade. “A scare? You think killing my grandfather was just a scare?”
James stepped forward, his face a mask of controlled fury. “Liam, you’ve betrayed us in the worst possible way. There will be consequences for this.”
Liam’s face twisted in desperation. “Please, James, I was forced into this. I had no choice.”
Evelyn’s voice was cold and final. “You always have a choice, Liam. And you made the wrong one.”
Stephen, who had been silently observing, finally spoke. “We need to call the authorities. Liam needs to be held accountable for his actions.”
Noah nodded in agreement. “I’ll handle it.”
As Noah stepped out to make the call, the room remained tense and silent. Kyler watched Liam, his eyes never leaving his face. He could see the man’s fear and desperation, but it did nothing to soften his resolve.
Justice needed to be served.
Margaret, still trembling with anger, looked at Kyler. “Thank you, Kyler. For uncovering the truth. Your grandfather deserves justice.”
Kyler nodded, his voice softening slightly. “He does, Grandma. And we’ll make sure he gets it.”
The sound of sirens approaching broke the heavy silence. Noah returned, nodding to Kyler. “They’re on their way.”
Liam sank into a chair, his head in his hands. The weight of his actions had finally caught up with him. He had no escape now, no more lies to hide behind.
The mercenary guild arrived, their presence adding to the gravity of the situation. They quickly took Liam into custody, reading him his rights as they led him away. The Young family watched in silence, the reality of the betrayal sinking in.
As the door closed behind the officers and Liam, James turned to Kyler. “I’m proud of you, son. You did the right thing.”
Kyler nodded, feeling a mixture of relief and sadness. “I just wish it didn’t have to come to this.”
Evelyn placed a hand on his shoulder. “Sometimes, the hardest truths are the ones that need to be uncovered the most.”
Margaret sighed in relief, “Bring the girl you like tomorrow here.”
Kyler nodded, “I will grandma..”
Evelyn looked at Kyler, “But.. Zoe is not like her father.”
James held her hand, “We can’t say anything Wife, if Kyler like someone, let him be with her.”
