Chapter 226
Chapter 226
Silver Sentinel tried to keep his cool, hoping to buy some time by negotiating with Charles.
"They're not gonna come looking for us," Charles said, his voice steady. "Once we passed that old factory in the Strollway District, all your tracking systems went dark."
"The only ones we gotta worry about are the three bodyguards tailing us."
Silver Sentinel scoffed. "You think I only have three bodyguards? I got forty."
Charles didn't answer right away. He glanced at the rearview mirror, checking the distance between their car and the ones following. "There's only three left now. And soon, they'll have a little 'accident.'"
Silver Sentinel's expression shifted slightly, but he kept his composure. "You sure about that?"
"I didn't just modify my car. My bodyguards' cars are bulletproof too..."
Charles checked the time on his phone and told the driver to take a left. "Who said I was using guns? I'm using tanker trucks."
Charles' words made Silver Sentinel freeze.
In that moment of hesitation, two speeding tanker trucks zoomed past them on either side. Right after, a massive explosion erupted behind them!
The deafening blast, with roaring flames, burned away the last shred of hope in Silver Sentinel's heart.
He realized he wasn't just up against Charles; he was up against an entire organization.
In the silence that followed, their car passed through the abandoned factory in the southern suburbs and onto a secluded road.
When Charles finally told the driver to stop, the morning star was already high in the sky.
"Ink Master, I... I need to pee..." The driver got out, rubbing his hands together, looking desperate.
Charles pointed in a direction. "Go over there and take care of it. Come back when you're done."
The driver quickly nodded and ran off like he was being chased.
Charles then grabbed Silver Sentinel from the back seat and yanked him out of the car.
Though Charles looked lean, his strength was terrifying.
Silver Sentinel screamed as the knife wound in his hand, which had been pierced earlier, was torn open again, blood gushing out.
"Now we can have a proper chat, Silver Sentinel..." Charles wiped the blood off his knife on Silver Sentinel's clothes, then put it away and squatted beside him. "First, you need to tell me why you sent people to kill me."
Silver Sentinel gritted his teeth, refusing to answer.
After a brief silence, a piercing howl echoed from the woods along the road, startling a flock of crows into flight.
Silver Sentinel trembled as he watched Charles use a chainsaw to cut off one of his fingers, then casually tossed it into a nearby fire.
"Don't fight it. Tell me now, and I might let you die in one piece," Charles said, his voice icy and calm.
Sweat poured down Silver Sentinel's face as he laughed bitterly. "Like you'd let me go if I talked. I know your type too well."
Charles squatted down again, leaning in close. "Of course, I'll let you go, but you need to answer my questions. At least tell me who you're working for..."
Silver Sentinel blinked rapidly, considering Charles' words.
He looked at the chainsaw in Charles' hand, its blade glinting in the moonlight, sending chills down his spine.
In the end, the desire to live overcame his reason. Silver Sentinel's lips trembled as he slowly spoke. "We didn't target you out of personal vendetta. It's because you got involved in something you shouldn't have, so we had to eliminate the problem..."
"You mean the person I killed earlier?"
"Yeah, the person you killed was an undercover agent. He wasn't just with our Shadow Syndicate; he also worked for the Veiled Society in Mistveil Realm."
At the mention of Mistveil Realm, Charles immediately became alert. "Mistveil Realm? How do you know about that?"
Silver Sentinel took a deep breath and replied, "Many people have contracts with Mistveil Realm. Looks like you're involved too... And if you haven't signed a contract with Mistveil Realm, by morning, you'll forget everything I've said about it."
Charles nodded thoughtfully and continued, "Then you must know Beckett too, right?"
At the mention of that name, Silver Sentinel's eyes widened in horror. "No, I don't know..."
Charles hefted the chainsaw impatiently. "Don't waste my time. Talk!"
Silver Sentinel's breathing became rapid, sweat beading on his forehead. He pressed his back against the car, trembling uncontrollably, a stark contrast to his earlier demeanor. "No... I can't talk about that..."
Seeing Silver Sentinel's state, Charles frowned and was about to speak when Silver Sentinel suddenly lunged, trying to grab the chainsaw.
In an instant, the chainsaw slashed across Silver Sentinel's neck, sending flesh and blood flying, splattering Charles with gore. When the machine stopped, Silver Sentinel's neck was a mangled mess, half his head severed, brain matter staining his once pristine clothes.
Charles stood frozen for a moment, then cursed under his breath and kicked the car hard.
The distant fire crackled, casting a dim light on Silver Sentinel's broken body. On the remaining half of his face, a faint smile could still be discerned...
