CHAPTER 62

CHAPTER 62

“What exactly happened out there? You’ve been acting strange for a few days now and you're not telling me anything.”

Olivia stopped on her tracks and turned around to face Jade who was trying to match up with her pace. The latter was startled at Olivia’s sudden stop and took a step back at once.

“Don’t you see what is happening?” She questioned. “Everyone who I thought cared and loved me all turn out to be big crooks.”

Jade was taken aback by Olivia’s fierce tone, she swallowed the huge bile rising up her throat.

“First it was Kelvin then Asher–then my uncle and aunt. Now I got to find out that even Pops wasn’t entirely the realest person I know–”

“Olivia, he’s doing it again.” Jade lowered her voice, reaching her hand to Olivia’s shoulder. “He’s making you question everything and everyone. He’s trying to turn your attention away from the truth, he murdered your grandfather. Always remember that!”

Olivia took in a long and deep breath, closing her eyes briefly.

"I'm not in the mood and right frame of mind for this." She sighed hard. “Get Aiden, I’ll be waiting in the car.” She ordered, turned around and began walking away without saying another word or looking back.

The response from Olivia earlier today drove Asher completely nuts. He recalled the way her lips moved in sync with those hurtful words and how each words went straight into his heart like a sharp double edged sword.

‘..are you sure that you want that?’

‘I’d rather go back to Kelvin and become his plaything than to be with you. I can't even wish my worst enemy to end up with a deceitful man like yourself. Whenever I lay my eyes on you all I want to do is to spit on your face and stomp on your heart as hard as I can.’

Those words she uttered have been stuck to his head all morning. He didn’t even realize how tightly his grip on the glass of whiskey was until it shattered.

The sharp edge of the glass ran deep into his flesh and soon fresh blood began streaming down his palm but he was unmoved. The pain in his palm was nothing compared to the one he was feeling in his heart.

Even when his door flung open, he still didn’t give a reaction.

“Asher!”

Agnes threw her purse across the room and began rushing to him worriedly. She lifted his bloody palm into her hands examining how deep the cut was.

“Have you lost your fucking mind?! What were you thinking hurting yourself like this?!” She snapped, leaving his side and rushing to the drawer where the first aid kit was.

She returned to him and began dressing his cut slowly.

“Agnes.” Her name rolled dangerously at the tip of his tongue.

Asher brought a finger under her chin lifting her head up to face him. His gaze was gentle and tender and it left Agnes frozen for a second.

There was no point waiting for a woman who prefer she went back to her malicious ex than to be with him. Olivia stated clearly how she wanted him out of her life for good.

“I’m right here with you, Asher. Hold on let me dress your cut–”

“Marry me.”

His words didn’t sound like an option that she could choose from, instead it sounded more like an order.

A look of surprise crossed Agnes face, for months she has been waiting for the right time when Asher would ask her to marry him officially, she always thought that she’d be elated.

But right now, something feels off. Her eyes fell on the bottle of half empty whiskey and the shattered glass cup on the floor.

Then it started making sense to her. This was about Olivia, she suspected that something must have happened between them earlier today for him to ask her to marry him.

“What–”

“Marry me, Agnes.” He repeated, this time gentler. “This has always been about us, right?”

Agnes mind and thoughts were conflicted, was he using her as a substitute for Olivia?

“Don’t you love her anymore–”

Asher brought his hand to Agnes nape and leaned in, sealing her lips with a three seconds kiss.

His actions stunned her and soon a blush formed on her chin.

“I’ll come over this weekend to meet with your parents, the earlier we are married the better for us.”

The cotton swab Agnes was holding on to slipped off her hand and she managed to throw herself into Asher’s arms.

“You know I’ve always been yours, no one else comes close.”

Asher brought his hands to settle around her waist. He leaned in, planting a kiss on her head.

“You’ve always been right, it’s time I get that law degree too.”

A bright glee flashed past Agnes eyes, she had no idea what brought this sudden change in his decision but she loved it.

“You have no idea how happy I am to hear this from you, I love you a lot Asher. It has always been you, only you and no one else.”

Asher smiled in return, he brought down his hands around her and gently nudged her to get off him.

“Excuse me, I’ll be back shortly.”

Agnes didn’t think much of his actions, she peeled away from him, granting him access to leave the room.

As soon as he was gone, the smile on her lips fell a bit. She has always known Asher to be a stubborn man with strict principles.

This wasn’t something that he could do within a few hours. Something must have happened at the office today.

“That bitch must have said something to him but whatever it is at least Asher has finally seen his worth to leave her.” She muttered under her breath.

The tilte of Mrs Adams has always been her dream from the very moment Asher came into her life.

“I’m going to be a wife to a wealthy man.” Agnes whispered, giggling and chuckling at her loud thoughts.
