CHAPTER 61

CHAPTER 61

Jade returned to Olivia's side with a glass of water, the latter accepted it and handed it over to Shirley who was still fidgeting from all that she had witnessed earlier.

“I've given the word to my men, your husband will receive the best medical care. And you both are safe now, I promise you. ”

Olivia's gaze left Shirley and it fell on Asher who was staring out of the floor to ceiling window with both of his hands placed into his pants pocket.

He hadn’t said a word ever since Shirley told them everything that transpired at her house.

“Excuse me,” She whispered to Shirley.

She left her seat and approached Asher whose back was facing her and everyone else in the office.

“There's nothing—”

“Your uncle is responsible for the death of my parents!” He suddenly snapped, turning around to face Olivia.

His eyes were clouded with rage.

“He killed yours too and you don't look surprised about it.” Asher whispered, sizing Olivia's length with his icy blue eyes. “Unless you already know about it.”

Olivia broke the gaze first, she was at loss for words. No matter how hard she might try to picture her point of view to him, he just won't understand it.

“This isn't Olivia’s fault—”

Asher raised his palm out for Jade to remain quiet before she could close up the gap between them.

“I didn't want you to get trapped in my uncle's deceitful plans, he would have come after you if he knew that you were the little Adam boy—”

“That's not an excuse, Olivia!” Asher barked, he saw how she shuddered under his harsh voice and intense stare. “Your Uncle and your grandfather made my life a living hell and you are trying to protect them.”

“What?” Olivia whispered. “I wasn't trying to protect him. I only found out about his involvement in our parents death a few days ago and I didn't want to involve you in it—”

“Well guess what Olivia Reynold, I’m now involved in it. You and everyone else who bears that last name will feel my wrath.”

Color drained off Olivia's face, she staggered back when he rammed his shoulder into her petite frame before storming out of the office.

“Asher!” She called after him but it fell on deaf ears.

Jade was quick to grasp Olivia by her shoulders.

“I’m sure that he doesn’t mean any of that. This is not your fault in anyway–”

Olivia took a step back and another before turning around to the exit and bolting off.

“Olivia!”

Olivia’s eyes scanned through the underground parking lot in search of Asher. She could swear that she had seen him walking down this direction.

“Asher, come out. We need to talk!” She said out loud, still scanning around trying to spot him.

“This isn’t only about you anymore. You, Jade and I were all robbed of our parents love by the same couples, my aunt and uncle.”

She brought her gaze to settle on her clasped hands.

“I accept that my grandfather acted selfish at one point but you don’t know the whole truth–”

“What truth?”

Olivia’s back froze. Her lips parted slightly and a low gasp came out.

She slowly turned around to find him standing up close to her. The anger in his blue eyes hadn’t settled yet, the soft gaze he usually stared at her with was now replaced with a malicious glint.

“A–Asher–”

“Just go straight to the point, what truth are you talking about?” His cold voice spiked.

“I admit that I didn’t tell you about what my uncle did to your parents but you can’t blame me.” Olivia’s voice dropped, she took a bold step closer to Asher.

Both of her hands folded and rested below her breasts.

“What do you expect me to say to the man who killed the only person who loved me in this cruel world? You’ve hurt and manipulated me just so that you can get even with my grandfather when none of these is my fault.” Olivia paused, tilting her head to the side.

“I was also a victim of this malicious scheme! And the only thing you could think about is hurting me time and time again–”

“I didn’t kill Ryan.” Asher interrupted. “I’m tired of repeating that line, I didn’t kill him–”

“Jade saw you do it and I know that she won’t lie to me.”

Asher exhaled loudly, he reached his hands to Olivia’s shoulder and pulled her closer.

“Ahh–”

“What exactly did she see? If you had any evidence why haven’t you turn me in yet?” He questioned meaningfully.

“Maybe you’re right, Asher. Why haven’t I turned you in yet? I guess I was waiting for the right time, I wanted you to say the truth just for once even though the answer is gonna hurt me. Knowing that I indirectly killed my favorite person by loving the wrong man is gonna hunt me for the rest of my life.”

A sad chuckle broke through her lips, Olivia’s eyes teared up at once.

“I don’t remember hurting you as a child, so why do you think it was right for you to come after me for the sins that my grandfather committed?” Her voice broke.

Asher was left in a dilemma, he didn’t understand what to do at this point anymore. His heart squeezed seeing her in tears and so much pain.

“Olivia–”

Olivia burst out into chuckles, she shrugged his hands off her shoulders and gently wiped her tears with her hands.

“This is where I draw the line with you, Asher. The Adams and Reynolds have always been old friends but it ends now.” Olivia broke the news. “The only relationship that I can share with you is that of an enemy and as for my uncle and aunt you can hurt them as much as you want. I don’t really care anymore.”

Asher stood there unable to utter a single word to her. His heart broke at the sound of her words, she just put an end to whatever might be brewing between them.

“I don’t want to breath the same air around you.” She added. “And I hope you respect that–”

“Are you sure you want that?” He questioned meaningfully.
