CHAPTER 50

CHAPTER 50
It was one thing to be walking hand in hand with a current enemy and it was another thing to cross paths with an old enemy at the same time.

That was the fate Olivia found herself when she spotted her former bestie making her way to her with a mocking smile on her lips.

Nancy wasn't looking all bad, In fact she looked very well fed and well dressed. It didn't come as a surprise to Olivia since the latter had Kelvin for herself now.

Alice recognized Nancy immediately. She was the same lady who snatched Olivia's first husband away from her.

“If it isn't the two times abandoned woman, Olivia Reynold.” Nancy chuckled softly, bringing her left hand to hide her smile.

Olivia exhaled deeply, she forced a smile on her lips and gave a small nod.

“I remember you, the lady with multiple titles on the internet and also the one famously known as a home wrecker and the other woman in her bestie's marriage.” Olivia replied back.

She saw Nancy's smile go stiff for a second before the latter managed to mask it up.

“Oh, it's a pleasure meeting you again bestie. You won't believe it but I was actually on my way to your office but I stopped here to come shop for a wedding dress.”

Olivia arched a brow. Wedding dress? The last time she recalled, Kelvin didn't seem like one who wanted to get married to her. He was looking so out of place, miserable and frustrated about life.

“What are you getting married to?” Olivia mocked.

“Very funny, bestie. I'm getting married to your Ex-husband. The same one you couldn't keep.” Nancy curled her lips into a smile, thinking she won with her words.

Alice was lost in the back and forth words of sarcasm going on with the two. But she didn't want to leave. There was a saying that goes like this..An enemy of an enemy is always a friend.

‘She is not so bad. She'll be helpful.’ She thought inwardly.

“Oh, it's good that you found peace with my leftover. What are friends for anyway?” Olivia responded. Her eyes fell on her phone screen and a tired sigh left her lips.

“Look at that. I need to get a dress for my event. I'll be announced as the CEO of Reynold's group in a few days. You can't relate to it because your grandfather didn't leave behind a huge company for you to handle.”

Olivia chuckled, shaking her head slowly. “Why am I telling you all this? You've been poor all your life until recently. But don't worry, I'll send an invite to you and your new family so that you all can come watch me shine.”

If there was anything Olivia learned at all from her late grandfather then it would be his wordly reminder; If they go low, go lower and bury them into the ground.

She has always lived by those words. It's useless trying to be the bigger one. Nothing is fair in love and war. Just the same way that nothing is fair in being petty.

Before Nancy could think of a counter attack, Jade and Aiden walked up to the three. There was a look of confusion in their eyes as they wondered who Nancy was.

“Are you done shopping?” Aiden questioned Olivia in a low tone.

“Oh I see you got yourself another man. Since you couldn't keep the last two, I wonder how long this one will last.”

Jade's brows arched. If there was one thing she couldn't stand, it was to see Olivia getting bullied. She cast Aiden aside and stood next to Olivia.

Her hands went under her breasts. She took a bold stance in front of Nancy and tilted her head to the side.

“And you are?”

“And why do you care?” Nancy answered back. “However, I'm Nancy Ash—”

“Oh wait!” Jade gasped. She squinted her eyes at Nancy trying to recollect where she had seen this face before. And when she did, her eyes grew large.

“I know you! You're the meme girl. My most used meme.”

Jade took out her phone, she scrolled through it for a while before flashing it on Nancy's face.

The meme was generated months back when Olivia had flipped Nancy over a table during a press conference.

Nancy's jaw clenched hard. She felt bullied by all of them that she instantly lost her tongue. Although Mrs Ashford had promised her that all videos of her circulating on the Internet would be erased totally but that didn't seem like the case.

The smile on Jade's face gradually fell.

“So the next time you utter such nonsense about her, I'm going to make your face bleed in different colors.” She threatened and offered a warm smile afterwards. “Have a nice day.”

No one needed to tell Nancy to get the fuck out of the mall. She even forgot about the main reason she was there in the first place.

“One down, one more to go.” Jade's eyes fell on Alice and the latter instantly got the message that she was passing.
.
.
When the four got home, they all retired to their rooms after a long day of shopping to freshen up and come down for dinner. Olivia and Jade were made to share a room while Alice occupied Jade's former room.

But Alice was having second thoughts about it.

“What do you mean by that? You should be grateful that we gave you a roof over your head.” Jade cut in before Alice got a chance to land with her words.

“I just want to stay with Olivia. There's nothing wrong with that. She's my sister.”

Olivia watched with Interest as the two argued over her like she was a precious artifact. She brought her fork to her lips biting off the steak.

“I don't even want you two feet away from her not to talk of sleeping on the same bed with her. Have you forgotten that you're restrained from coming close to her? Or should I remind you of what happens if you break that rule?”

“Your parents are responsible for every death that took place in your family. And I don't want them committing more murders.” Jade added.

Alice fell quiet, she bowed her head in despair and soon started sobbing.

“My only crime was having monsters as parents. You can't hold that against me all my life. I deserve a fair chance.”

“And you'll get a fair chance, Alice. You can share my room with me and Jade can have hers.”

Jade chuckled dryly. She dropped her cutlery against her place harshly and stood up to her feet.

“Excuse me.”

Just when she was about to leave, she felt a grip on her wrist. Turning slightly, she met the gaze of the one who held her tenderly.

Her heart skipped a beat as she stared into Aiden's warm eyes.

“You can't leave yet.” He said softly.

“I can't stand it here.” Jade responded.

“You have to endure it. It's your turn to do the dirty dishes.”

Jade's face fell instantly, she pulled her hand out of his grip out of frustration.

“You—” She ran out of words but managed to groan before leaving the dining room.

After dinner that night, Olivia left for her room while Alice excused herself from the house to make a phone call.

When she was far enough from ears reach, she finally answered the call from her father.

“Yes dad? I got in.”

Meanwhile at the other end, Fred and his wife exchanged gazes and beamed.

“Good! That's why you're my daughter. I knew you'll never let us down. Kill her as soon as you can—”

“We have a problem.” Alice cut her dad off. “That servant still pose as a threat. We need to get rid of her as soon as possible and I have a brilliant idea on how to do so.”

They spent the next minutes planning and plotting their schemes against Olivia and Jade.

However, at one of the windows. Two figures standing side by side watched Alice's silhouette in the dark. They could tell that she was clearly on a phonecall.

“She's talking to her parents. And you know it deep down, Olivia. If not, tell me why she went all the way out there to receive the call.”

Olivia turned briefly to Jade and shook her head.

“You're such a fool, Jade.” Olivia remarked and turned away from the window.

“What? You have no idea of what is about to befall us with that lady under this roof. She's about to assist her parents to get rid of us.” Jade tried to reason with Olivia.

“It's late. You better get some rest.”

Jade was left with no other choice than to leave the room to Olivia since she wasn't taking her words seriously.

She took it upon herself to keep a close eyes on Alice. The latter already revealed that she had evil intentions towards them at the mall earlier today.

“I'll end her before she does the same to me.”
.
.
Meanwhile back at Olivia's room.

The door finally opened after a while of waiting, she pretended to be asleep but was still able to feel and notice Alice's movement in the room.

Alice's movement was gentle and too careful to avoid waking her cousin from her sleep. Then
slowly, she crept on the bed and was just about to rest her head on the pillow when the lights came on.

Startled, she sat up immediately with a weird smile on her lips when Olivia sat up from the bed.

“You were out for long. What were you doing?”

Alice heaved a sigh of relief. She bit her lower lips and avoided Olivia's intense stare.

“I was on a call.” She said softly.

Olivia leaned closer to her cousin's face to see the redness staining her cheeks. It made her curious to know who she was talking to so late.

“You left the house to answer this call. Is there something I should be aware of?”

“I was talking to my boyfriend. He wanted to know where I was.”

Alice noticed that Olivia wasn't buying her lies so she brought her phone from under the pillow where she had tucked it earlier and showed Olivia her last caller.

“James? Why does that name sounds familiar? I hope it's not the same James who used to bully us when we were younger.”

The smile on Alice's face said it all. Olivia finally relaxed her mind.

“It's the same James. But I promise you that he isn't like that anymore. You should have seen how he pleaded to ask me out on a date with him.”

The two shared a hearty laughter. They spent all night going down the memory lane. They gisted and chatted until Alice finally fell asleep.

Olivia sat there staring at her cousin's sleeping face and then to her phone. She knew for a fact that the same James Alice was talking about was in rehab.

“You had just one chance to prove Jade wrong but you failed.” She whispered stroking Alice's face tenderly. “She's always right about everything and everyone.”

Olivia slowly detached herself from Alice and stepped out of the bed. She left the room to go grab something to drink but came across Jade smoking a cigarette in the living room.

“I knew nothing was wrong with me whenever I randomly perceived burning cigarettes in the room.”

Jade was startled, she hit the bottom of the cigarette into a ashtray and stood up at once.

“For a second I thought it was Aiden who smokes but I was wrong. So I want to know why my friend and assistant is smoking all alone in the middle of the night.”

Jade snorted and threw her gaze away.

“Seems to me like you have a new friend now and soon who knows if she'll be taking my place as your assistant?”

Olivia chuckled softly and slowly walked to where Jade was standing.

“Is that jealousy I hear in your voice?”

Jade rolled her eyes. “I have no idea of what you're talking about.” She denied.

“You're such a fool, Jade. And what part of you thinks that i will ever trust an enemy so easily?”

Jade's creased brows slowly relaxed after hearing Olivia speak.

“What?” She whispered still in a state of surprise.

“See? You're so stupid. We keep our friends close and our enemies closer. And Alice is right where we need her the most. Under our roof.”

Olivia allowed Jade digest her words properly. There was a little tug on her lips.

“She thinks that she's smart but doesn't know who she's messing with. And I intend to make it known to her in the hardest and cruelest way possible. They will all pay for making us orphans at an early age.”

Jade burst out into tears, she scrambled on her feet and rushed into Olivia's arms.

“I thought that you've finally lost your mind for a second but I was wrong.”

“And I'm disappointed that you thought that about me.” Olivia whispered in-between chuckles.
