CHAPTER 45

CHAPTER 45
Asher's grip on the steering wheel tightened as he stared at the car parked up ahead. He seemed to be waiting for someone to step out of the building and not too long, he heard a series of chuckles.

Two familiar ladies giggled as they stepped out of the building. Behind them was a tall young man holding a purse. Aiden, the new guard Olivia hired recently.

He waited patiently for them to enter into the sleek black car parked up ahead and carefully, he followed behind them. He didn't care how long the ride was, he didn't give up.

The car pulled over in front of an old one storey building. They all alighted and proceeded into the building including Aiden.

“Why is he going in with them?” Asher mumbled to himself, he unintentionally bumped his palm against the steering and it made a loud horn which startled him for a second.

After sometime, all the lights on the second floor turned on. It got his attention, in one of the rooms he spotted the silhouette of Olivia and Aiden.

Minutes passed by and no sign of Aiden stepping out of the building. He lost track of time waiting for something that wasn't going to happen. His final shred of patience snapped when the lights turned off.

Asher finally accepted defeat and drove into the night.

Meanwhile..

Olivia lay back down on the bed, her eyes fixated on the ceiling. Today was a bit tough and stressful now that she had Aiden to deal with.

She couldn't help but agree to Jade's words, this was truly the first time that she has come across someone with so much arrogance like Aiden despite him being homeless.

They couldn't let him go back to the streets when there's a spare room next to Jade's room.

Then her mind drifted back to Asher, the man responsible for all her problems and the person who murdered her grandfather. Although he said he didn't do it, she still had her own doubts.

Asher was more likely to be the culprit than anyone else. Only him had the motive strong enough to take Ryan's life afterall the latter made his childhood tough.

“Tomorrow is going to be a long day..”

On the other hand...

Jade walked to her door after hearing a knock on it. She was already in her pajamas and a hair bonnet held up her hair.

She opened the door thinking that it was Olivia only to frown at the different face glaring down at her.

“You?” She took a quick sideway glance around. “What do you want? As you can see it's already late and i have so much work to do tomorrow. Get lost.”

Just when she was about to close the door, the door didn't budge. Jade snapped her head back to the tall figure to see his hand holding the door from closing.

“What is wrong with you? You—”

“Do you expect me to sleep on that bed that feels like a rock? The fan isn't functioning well like I want it to and the light bulbs are flickering..the room also reeks of puke”

Jade was left astonished, she brought her hand forward to strangle him but stopped midway and caught the air instead. A loud groan left her lips as she squeezed air into her palm to vent her anger.

“You are loosed in the head, Aiden! You should be grateful that we gave you a roof over your head—”

“Grateful? I didn't ask or beg for it.” He arrogantly said. “And I never complained to you that I needed a roof over my head. My little mat is much more comfortable than that hard rock bed inside that tiny room..”

Jade had had enough of his arrogance for one day, she quickly raised her hands to his chest and pushed him away from her corridor before closing her door.

She rested her back against it with her eyes closed.

“What sort of a person is he?”

The next morning,

Jade was awoken by the several knocks against the door. She reached for her phone underneath her pillow to check for the time.

“Who could it be so early?”

She groggily stepped out of bed itching her hair which has turned into a bird's nest on her head. She yawned lazily and came down the stairs.

To her amazement, she met Aiden having breakfast alone but that wasn't her main problem. He could hear the knocks on the door but he didn't budge.

“Can't you hear the door—”

“It's not part of my job.”

Jade looked away and sharply drew a deep breath in. “No. I won't let him get into my head this morning.” She whispered and made her way to the door.

After it opened, her mood worsened. There was a look of surprise on her face.

“What are you doing here?!” She snapped.

Aiden barely looked towards the door before he continued munching on his sandwich like he didn't just hear her yell.

“P—please let me talk to Olivia..” Alice's pitiful tone broke. She looked haggard and out of place.

There was a look of disgust on Jade's face. She'll rather let a trailer run over her than let the cunning bitch meet Olivia after what her parents had done.

“Get the fuck off my porch or I'm gonna shove your ass—”

“Who is it?”

Olivia's voice broke into the room gaining Jade and Alice's attention.

“It's no one. Just a pesky—”

Seeing that Jade wasn't looking at her, Alice forced her way in catching Jade off guard.

Alice stumbled into the room and rushed to Olivia, falling on her knees.

A look of surprise crossed Olivia's face. She stared at the figure whimpering and crying at her feet.

“Olivia, please hear me out just once. Don't turn your back against your own blood—”

“Oh, hell no!” Jade interrupted, she grabbed Alice up to stand on her feet. “Go and cry to a person who would actually be moved by your fake tears..”

“No,” Alice tried to give a fight as she was being pulled away. “Please, Olivia. Listen to me, don't judge me based on my parents wrongdoings..” She cried out in desperation.

Just a few more steps to the door, Olivia shut her eyes for a second and uttered. “Wait Jade. Let's hear what she has to say..”

Jade scoffed and turned to Olivia, her hand was still around Alice's arm. It got stronger whenever the latter tried to break free.

“I'll tell you what she has to say, she'll likely ask you to pardon her parents and tell you how different she is from them but she's not. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!” Jade spat, breathing heavily.

“Please Olivia, I'm your family. The only one on your side at the moment—”

Jade pulled Alice back and made the latter face her. “I don't know what plans you and your murderous parents are scheming but let me make it clear to you right now. Olivia doesn't need you—”

“Let her go, Jade.”

Jade was left in shock, her lips slightly parted and her head turned to Olivia. “What?” She breathlessly whispered. “Do you have any idea of what—”

“It's fine,”

Alice took the opportunity to break out of Jade's hold and rushed to Olivia's side whimpering.

“I understand your concern. Just give us a few minutes to talk..”

Jade's burning gaze fell on Alice, she could see right through the latter's facade. Olivia has always had trouble differentiating people with hideous masks from genuine people.

Unfortunately, Alice was just one of them sent out to ruin her.

“This isn't a good idea, Olivia..” She casually said and began walking to the dining.

Aiden was silently observing the drama between the three, he stared briefly at Jade's back when she walked past him and went into the kitchen.

Jade opened all pots for the remainder of whatever Aiden had prepared but found none. The utensils were annoyingly cleaned up.

She snapped her head to him and caught him staring. She watched him take a bite out of his sandwich and couldn't help but step out of the kitchen in fury.

Aiden looked away when she began approaching him, he picked the last sandwich from his plates and was munching on it when he heard a bang on the table.

“You bastard! Where's the rest of the sandwich?” She snapped.

Aiden arched a brow. “What sandwich?” He muffled, taking another large bite.

Jade's grip on the table tightened. Her chest felt heavy just by staring at him. One would think that he was being wronged with such an innocent look on his face.

“You made breakfast for yourself alone?” She questioned still in disbelief.

“I left some on the counter over there..”

Jade followed his line of sight but she wasn't a fool. She just stepped out of the kitchen and not a single molecule of sandwich was on the counter.

“There's nothing there—”

“Good. I hope you got your answer. And making breakfast for you isn't part of my work” he responded.

“You made breakfast with my groceries and my gas. You're sitting on my chair, you're breathing the air in my house and you even spent a whole night in one of my rooms and you dare utter such nonsense?!” She barked at him.

Jade was this close to going berserk. What annoyed her the most was his nonchalant attitude to everything.

“It's not my fault that you feel that way.”

Just when he was about to take another bite out of his sandwich, it was suddenly snatched out of his grip.

“You have lost your mind completely!” She fired at him.
