CHAPTER 46
CHAPTER 46
“Please, Olivia. I have nowhere else to go other than to come find you as soon as I heard what my parents did to yours.” Alice sobbed with her head bowed. She couldn't afford to look at Olivia in the eyes.
“I'm not asking you to forgive them. They are both evil.” She met Olivia's gaze. “They are currently planning on how to kill you. They sent me to you to buy your trust and then stab you in the back—”
“And that's what you intend on doing.” Jade interrupted. She took a bite out of the sandwich in her hand and turned to the two who were now staring at her.
“What? That's what you're doing. Gaining her trust by badmouthing your own parents. You're no different from them, you're the same rotten and spoiled egg inside out.”
Alice scoffed and stood to her feet. She walked closer to Jade and sized the latter from her head to her feet.
“And how do we know for sure that you are not the one with evil intentions?” Alice challenged.
“For the records I hate you and your parents. And just as Olivia lost both of her parents in that car accident years ago, I also lost my father and mother on that very same day.”
Olivia's attention was piqued instantly. Alice took a step back trying to figure out who Jade might be and why her parents would kill her own parents.
“What?” Olivia asked in surprise as she stood to her feet. “You never mentioned that to me.”
Jade's eyes diverted from Olivia back to Alice who was staring at her curiously.
“My father was a driver for your grandfather and my mum was a Nanny to your cousin. Both of them were in those cars that blew up into flames.”
Olivia gasped at the sudden revelation. She recalled having a Nanny at one point in her life but after her parents demise, she has neither seen nor heard anything about her.
“My Nanny was your mother?”
Jade gave a nod. “Yes, she was. And her evil parents took them away from me. Now give me one reason why I shouldn't strangle her to death on this spot.”
Jade spat. Anger coursed through her veins the longer she stared at Alice.
Alice shook under the intense stare from Jade. She suddenly dropped to her knees with her forehead kissing the floor.
“Punish me however you may want but please don't judge me based on my parents sins. I was just a child—”
“Olivia and I were both kids too when our parents were taken away from us. We weren't given a choice. You had a great childhood with both parents by your side and riches but we were left with a huge void in our heart that couldn't be filled while growing up.”
“I didn't do any of that. My parents did. You can punish me—”
“Punish you?”
Jade questioned only for Alice to gulp down.
“The only punishment that can be served here is your parents death. They don't deserve to live after all the atrocities that they have committed.”
Jade leaned down and grabbed Alice by her arm pulling her up to stand on her feet. She yanked the latter closer to herself.
“Now go back home and tell your parents that your plan to win your cousin's trust has failed woefully. And they should run as far as they can because I'm thirsty for their bloods. If I get my hands on them and end them for good maybe I can reconsider letting you play your little trick on us..”
Alice staggered back with a loud gasp.
“Now get the hell out of here!” Jade barked, pointing her finger to the door. “And if i see you anywhere near us ever again, I'll send whatever is left of your body back to your parents and mount your head right outside my porch.”
A chill ran down Alice's spine as soon as Jade threatened her. She didn't need to be told twice before rushing out through the door.
“She is my cousin. You shouldn't have done that—”
“I shouldn't?” Jade asked back in surprise. “This isn't about your parents death anymore. It's about our parents who were taken away from us at a young age. And your actions today would have made us lose our heads if I didn't interfere.”
“Your uncle and aunt know that they are on the losing side and to make sure that doesn't happen, they sent their daughter over. That girl didn't come here with pure intentions.”
Olivia shook her head gently. “You always see the worst in people.”
“This evil world is too corrupt for your good heart. And being good to people doesn't lead you anywhere but six feet under the earth, remember that.” Jade retorted and left the room.
Olivia grabbed a handful of her hair and let out a deep sigh.
“She's always in her detective mood.”
Meanwhile.
Asher wasn't at all in the right mood or condition for today's workload or meetings. Olivia and her crew haven't arrived yet and it was messing up with his thoughts.
He knew that Aiden slept in her apartment last night and it didn't sit well with him. He has seen how good they look together and he wondered what must have happened between them last night.
He unconsciously twirled the ballpoint pen in-between his fingers lost in the room.
The conversation going on around him didn't seem to bring him back. Agnes wasn't around either as the latter was currently on one of her girly trips.
The double doors to the conference room pushed open and it gained Asher's attention instantly. He sat up from the chair when he noticed Olivia stepping in.
She was in a black feminine suit and white heels. There was an apologetic smile on her lips as she made her way to her assigned seat.
“I'm sorry for keeping you all waiting. There was slight traffic on the way here.”
Not too long, the small smile on Asher's lips fell when he spotted Aiden walking in. A white purse dangled on one of his arms. Next to him was Jade clutching some files to her chest.
Asher clenched his jaw at the mere sight of Aiden. He watched Aiden stand beside Olivia's seat and place her purse on the table.
“Shall we begin?”
“Well, we've earned a significant amount of profit to cover up our previous losses for the year. And most people don't know the reason for the achievements in the company..”
Olivia squinted her gaze at the older man who was speaking.
“I think it's right if we host an event to introduce you to the whole world. Everyone needs to know the person on seat—”
“Can the company afford such an event?”
Asher suddenly said out of the blue to stay relevant and also gain Olivia's attention despite knowing the answer to his question.
“Of course, the company can chest off any amount needed. It always has.” The man responded.
Olivia's gaze fell on Asher and just at that moment he met her gaze.
“Why do you ask that? Do you think we are making a financial mistake?”
Jade arched a brow at Asher. She knew what games the latter was playing.
“Yes.” He agreed. “We can't spend the whole profit we just made on a pointless event. You can just set up a press conference meeting and let it be known to everyone that you're the CEO without breaking the bank for it.”
A few people gave a nod to Asher's words seconding his inputs.
“He's not entirely wrong.” Another man inputted.
Olivia's eyes never left Asher's face, she brought her gaze down for a second staring at her clasped hands.
“If we host this event, a lot of potential investors and other business men and women will be present and there's a high chance that they'll be interested in working with us on different projects.” Olivia calmly said.
“We will not just be throwing money in the air, a lot of big and small companies will reach out to us and that's just a step to multiple income channels.” She continued.
A smile appeared on Asher's lips. Though it stayed for a second, Olivia was able to catch it.
“Well that is smart. We can all agree that she is making a point.”
“So if that is all, I'll inform the rest to start making preparations towards the big day. And now I see that a date hasn't been fixed yet.” Olivia said, travelling her gaze around the room.
“We'll communicate on a suitable date and get back to you.”
Olivia gave a nod and stood to her feet. “I guess that will be all for today. Thank you all for your time.” She turned around to leave but stopped, turned and rested her gaze back on Asher.
“I suppose that you'll be getting a new suit for my occasion, Mr Adams.” She mocked before turning her back against him.
Asher watched her back leaving the room and he couldn't help but chuckle.
“Of course.” He whispered.
