CHAPTER 44

CHAPTER 44

After lunch, Olivia returned to the company to carry on with her work, right in front of her was Aiden chuckling at something on his phone. She had grown tired of reminding him about his job in the last hour.

Olivia knew how picky Jade was when it came to people, she also doesn't trust everyone so easily but she didn't bat an eye before employing Aiden which means that Jade saw something in him which she was missing.

“You know, you're supposed to be walking behind me right now. It's part of a guard's role..” She finally voiced out her concern after minutes of keeping quiet about it.

Aiden didn't stop walking nor did he glance back at her.

“And that's what I'm doing, I'm protecting you from the front and in return, you should watch out for our backs..”

Olivia's steps altered after digesting his words, she shook her head slowly. “No, he has to go..” She whispered to herself.

Jade wasn't one who makes mistakes but this time, she has managed to make a very big mistake by hiring Aiden.

His eyes were still glued to his screen as he opened the door for Olivia to walk in. She huffed before walking past him.

After settling down in her office, she reached for her phone buried in her purse and called Jade over.

A few minutes later, Jade was right before Olivia's desk. They both stared outside through the see-through glass door where Aiden was standing, going through his phone.

“I admit, he has issues but he's the one who is fit enough to put those two in their places. People like him have nothing else to lose in this life..” Jade's brows furrowed slightly. “If you squint really hard, you'll see the tiny goodness inside of him..”

“Where did you find someone like him? He doesn't even know the details of his job..” Olivia argued.

“Hold on,” Jade raised her finger and turned slightly to the door. “Aiden..” She called out loud enough for him to hear.

He heard his name, turned slightly to them and looked away like no one was in the office.

Jade and Olivia's lips fell open. They both exchanged glances and it had Olivia chuckling for some reasons.

“I can't believe this..” She whispered pinching the space between her brows. “Is this the person who is supposed to protect me when the time comes?”

“Give me a minute with him and I'll reset his brain..” Jade promised and excused herself.

She stepped out of the office and snatched the phone off Aiden's grip. She placed it into her white shirt and pressed his chest back with her left palm.

Everything happened within a second and it left Aiden confused, speechless and surprised. His back pressed against the wall.

“What are you—”

“Shut up!” Jade snapped. “You have to remember that you're nothing here but a bodyguard and it's time you start doing your work properly. That lady in there is our boss and I don't care about your attitude issues, you have to fix them or I'll fix your face for you..” She warned.

“There's nothing wrong with my face..” Aiden responded with a smirk carving deeply into his face.

“For now,”

Jade stepped away from him after seeing his smile slowly fall. She straightened up her shirt and took a step back from him.

This time, she offered him an innocent smile like she just didn't threaten his ass right now. Her hands pointed in the direction she wanted him to go through.

“The boss wants to speak to you..”

Surprisingly, he listened and obeyed her command. He walked past her and pushed the door open.

Olivia was surprised and a bit shocked, though she only witnessed part of what happened out there, she still doesn't know how Jade could pull that off on him.

“You sent for me, ma'am..”

“Yes,” Olivia's gaze dropped for a second. “Where do you live?”

Aiden's thick brows slightly rose. He took a long glance at Olivia in skepticism and then to Jade standing next to him. She arched a brow at him and slightly nudged her head to the side.

“I live everywhere.”

Olivia touched her temple, it appears that Aiden was even a bigger problem than Asher and Agnes as it stands.

“What do you mean by that?” She asked, already on the last thread of her patience with him. “And I need you to elaborate or I'm gonna flip this desk on you..”

“It's very simple and easy to comprehend. I sleep anywhere that I see fit to lay my head on.” Aiden confessed with a straight face.

“You mean to say that you are homeless?” Jade questioned and chuckled. “This is the very first time that I'm meeting a homeless man with a very arrogant attitude.”

Olivia was flabbergasted, she pressed her fingers on her temples and waved her hand slightly urging him to leave.

As soon as he was gone, she heaved a deep sigh.

“What are we going to do about him?”

“I have an idea..”

“No, Dad!” Alice shook her head hard refusing to accept the news her parents just broke to her. “I am not going back to that little house. The boy I've always liked finally talked to me after he learnt that I'm a heiress. I'm sure that Olivia can understand this..”

Stella and Fred exchanged glances. They both knew that their daughter would find it hard to accept the truth.

Just a few days of living a luxurious life, she has grown accustomed to it.

“Honey,” Stella left her husband's side and sat next to her daughter who was already sobbing. “Your cousin wants us all out of her house—”

“This isn't her house!” Alice snapped. “It's our family's home. The home to the entire Reynold's and we are a part of the Reynold. You're the last surviving heir to your father's properties, Dad. Why do we have to listen to whatever nonsense Olivia is going on about?”

Stella looked back at her husband urging him to come over and say something. To them, their daughter wasn't entirely wrong. Olivia's father wasn't even the older son, he was the younger one but he got everything because he has always been his father's favorite.

“We don't have the money to hire a lawyer. If we choose to go against the will and pursue this case legally, there's a ninety-nine percent chance that we are going to lose the case. And we'll be in a worse state than we were before..”

Alice wasn't having any of it, she stood up and moved a few steps away from her parents. Her eyes blazed hot and her fists tightened by her sides.

“No, Olivia sees you both as cheats and deceivers. You tried to take everything away from her but I'm different.” She turned around to face her parents with so much glee in her eyes.

“I didn't take part in anything. She'll believe whatever I tell her, she won't judge me based on the crimes of my parents—”

“What are you talking about? So you're going to go over to our enemy and feed her in on news about your parents?” Fred barked, visibly upset at his daughter's greed.

“No dad,” Alice shook her head gently. “You don't get it,” She met her mother's gaze. “You both don't get it. I never said that I was going to rat you two out, I'd never do that to you. You're my parents and everything that you've done was all for me..”

Alice walked closer to them, she took her mother's hands into hers and gazed at her father softly.

“I would never betray the people who brought me into this world.” She continued.

“Then what were you talking about just now?”

Alice's grip on her mother's hands tightened. She smiled, “You've done your part, now leave the rest to me. I'm going over to gain Olivia's trust, she will trust me easily. She has always been a fool who trusts others blindly, just a few tears and the whole work is done..”

She left her mother's side and stood before her father. She took his hands into hers and squeezed it gently.

“She raised her hand to my father, I'll make sure that I make her handicapped in various aspects of her life. I'll make her pay for the humiliation you had to suffer for years because of her worthless parents..” She muttered through clenched teeth.

Fred and Stella exchanged glances before resting their gaze on their daughter.

“Will you really do that for us, Alice?”

Alice turned her head to her mother. “I'm willing to do anything to escape that awful lifestyle that we came out from. You and dad don't have to worry, I'll bring Olivia to her knees when the time is right..”

She turned her back against them. “But for now, you both have to disappear from her reach. She wants this house, then we will honor her wish for now..”
