Chapter Thirty-Eight
Chapter Thirty-Eight
Author’s Pov
(FEW HOURS AGO)
It was one of those days. Days where everyone had to be on high alert. Days their Vampire king could decide to act recklessly and start a war. Early morning, the witches and wizards had taken off from their coven to meet the Vampire king.
To humans, they did not know of the existence of witches and wizards or where they lived as well as other supernatural beings. Their breeds, though low-key and calm, were beasts when it had to do with their member.
It has become no news to them how Lucien had been killing the witches the past few days and that morning, they decided to make their presence known in the palace.
In the large hall, not too bright, walls high; Lucien sat in the middle on his chair. His eyes were narrowly dark at the disturbance that he wasn’t informed about. About five other council members sat across him, emitting different auras. Nyx sat directly beside Lucien and Jae, was nowhere to be found.
On the other hand, the high priestess and other witches sat down. They had a different kind of beauty, their hair was long, and their eyes were a different shade of colors. They looked majestic.
Armed guards were stationed around the corners, the maids brought snacks that no one was willing to touch.
After a long, tortured silence, Nyx finally broke the silence.
“High priestess,” he called out, his voice firm and devoid of emotion. He wasn’t the usual playful Nyx anymore.
“You know it’s uncultured of you to barge into here without a proper appointment.”
The Queen’s golden eyes flashed with something unknown, “I won’t be here if it isn’t urgent, young master Nyx.”
Nyx was about to respond again when Lucien held his hand back gently. The tension in the room heightened at the small interaction.
They knew he was about to speak.
“What is the issue?”
One of the two wizards stood up, bowed his head, and then spoke up.
“Your Majesty, we apologize for any inconvenience our abrupt visit might have caused. However, you have been causing harm to our kinds—“
“This is what all this is about?” Lucien asked, smirking darkly. “Your Queen lacks courtesy.”
“Lucien!” The Queen called loudly, her voice thundered in the room making almost everyone hearts skipped a bit. Her golden eyes shone brightly, her pretty face scrunched up at the disrespect.
Lucien leaned back with an unimpressed yawn, his fingers lazily swirling the blood in his glass—as though he were watching a child’s play, not a political confrontation.
“Aurora, why don’t you calm your ass down?”
Whispers.
Everyone’s eyes widened at Lucien’s words. Aurora was the greatest Queen and high priestess of the Witches and Wizards and she had been rumored to be very powerful and as well as being ruthless. It was kind of shocking to everyone because the Vampires and Witches never had interactions. No one knew how the enmity formed or how it began, but they all went with the flow.
It had been like that for years, not until Lucien started to kill them.
The Queen glared at him, her fellow witches staring at her shockingly at her calmness. Not like they were expecting her to fight with the Vampire king but at least, she would never allow Lucien to talk to her that way.
Lucien continued, “You come here parading yourself without finding out exactly what happened?”
“Why don’t you tell me?” The Queen questioned sharply. Her tone contrasts with her beauty.
One of the council members spoke up, “So you didn’t—“
As if the Queen knew what was about to come out of his mouth, she muttered some curses under her breath and the council member's face reddened in pain. His hand wrapped around his neck as if struggled to breathe.
The witches looked proud.
That was their Queen.
Finally put someone in his place.
Nyx signaled to the guard to help the member struggling away from the meeting room. Amidst all of this, Lucien looked bored while the other members were becoming wary of Queen Aurora.
Nyx spoke up this time, “Your people had been trespassing our kingdom without your knowledge I assume. You don’t expect us to sit back when they mess with us.”
“That’s not true,” Another wizard spoke up almost immediately and Nyx's eyes darkened.
“Shut up, I wasn’t talking to a weakling like you.”
The wizard’s eyes burned into Nyx's soul and he was about to attack when the Queen stopped him. Without a word, he sat back down.
“Can you prove this?”
Nyx sighed deeply, shaking his head before he snapped his fingers and the guard nodded before he disappeared into the walls.
Silence.
After a short while, a ragged-looking witch was thrown to the floor. Blood was splattered all over her face and her hands and legs were tied together.
The Queen stood up instantly, her eyebrows furrowed together.
“Who are you?”
The ragged witch raised her head and her eyes widened in fear.
“Speak!” She demanded.
The witch's lips trembled as she stammered, “I’m—I’m a witch—“
“We know that,” Nyx said lazily.
“Forgive me, my Queen. Please……”
Before she could say another word, she quickly muttered a few words under her breath and the next thing that happened was—-she dropped dead on the floor.
Everyone’s breath got caught in their throat. It only meant one thing, she killed herself because she didn’t want to say something.
The Queen sat back on her chair.
“You owe me an apology Aurora.”
Her eyes snapped to Lucien, “It’s Queen Aurora. Apology for what?”
Lucien scoffed hard, his hand swirling the glass of blood. “You won’t apologize? Cool then.”
He stood up without saying a word and was about to leave when her voice sounded.
“Lucien,” she called out, her voice dripping with sternness. “You got away with this today, you won’t next time.”
Nyx raised his brows, “Queen—“
“As a king, the right thing for you to do was to get across to me about this but instead, you chose to kill my people.”
Without turning back, Lucien responded, “Would you do the same? So unreasonable.”
“You are the unreasonable one here, Lucien!”
The guards immediately removed their swords, getting ready in case it turned into something else.
But it didn’t.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t the day of the war.
Before Lucien could respond, the Queen spoke up again, “Don’t push me to the wall because you won’t like the outcome. We both know! Lucien, you know!.”
“Don’t start what we both can’t finish,” she continued. “Let’s not relive the past.”
It felt like there was something known to them only. Something every other person couldn’t wrap around their heads. Like the Queen was talking in codes only Lucien could understand.
Lucien finally turned his face to her, his crimson eyes burning slightly.
“Aurora, that was then. I would BURN the witch's existence if you cross my lane again.”
His fists tightened, “Thank your stars I’m in a good mood. Keep leashes on your dogs or I teach them a lesson.”
The room was suffocating and cold at the amount of unseen powers unleashing into the atmosphere. Nobody dared to talk. No one dared to breathe wrongly or they would suffer the consequences.
Lucien walked out of the room without any more words.
“I will see you out, Queen,” Nyx announced but the Queen didn’t give him the chance before she disappeared into the thin air, leaving her people.
The council members and other guards finally breathed when the powerful ones were outside. They started to discuss how they thought something was going on that they had no idea about.
“You know, Our king sleeps with anyone—“
“So, what are you saying?”
“Maybe he broke her heart years back.”
The other councils chuckled loudly at the theory.
“I think it’s something deeper than that.”
They nodded in understanding.
“I knew His Majesty couldn’t be that reckless, the witches did something.”
“Ohh goodness, you were the one doubting….”
“I didn’t…..”
