Chapter 125 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY- FIVE
TESS
I gasped and pulled away from him.
I glanced at Jack who glanced back at me in horror. We didn’t know what to do, or how to react after what we just heard.
She started knocking on the door consistently ‘Tess!!! Come and open this door, dammit!!’
I started panicking ‘Oh my God, it’s Shirley. What do we do? I told you this was a bad idea’
Jack gestured to me to calm down, but I was too frightened to listen.
I pointed a finger at him angrily ‘Don’t you dare tell me to calm down. I told you but you didn’t listen.’
Jack whispered ‘Do you have a back door?’
‘I don’t have a back door.’
He jumped up and I followed suit.
‘I can hide in your kitchen’
I snapped ‘Haven’t you seen how tiny my kitchen is? Where do you want to hide in the fucking oven or in those tiny kitchen cabinets?’
‘What of your bathroom?’ he asked.
I hissed ‘And what if she wants to use the bathroom later, huh?’
He ran his hand over his hair ‘You are right’
‘Of course I’m right, you shouldn’t have come over’ I started lamenting again.
Jack became furious ‘Can you just stop whining and start thinking of a solution?’
He was right.
Crying about his coming here won’t change anything, besides I let him in and if we don’t find a place for him to hide, things would get so much worse.
Jack pointed at my black curtains ‘I can hide there’ he said.
I shook my head ‘No that’s a bad idea, she will see your feet.’
He sighed ‘Good point so, where should I hide then?’
I scanned the entire room, my heart pounding, my pulse racing, adrenaline pushing, until my eyes landed on a tiny space beside the laundry area where I was sure Shirley won’t see him.
‘There’ I said, pointing to the tiny space.
Jack looked at me and then at the spot ‘That place is too small for me’
‘Squeeze yourself and you will fit in perfectly' I replied quickly.
He managed to squeeze himself inside while still protesting ‘It’s uncomfortable’
I snapped at him ‘Do I look like I care about your comfort right now? Just stay there and be quiet’
I walked away before he said anything else. Grabbed his things and threw them somewhere in the house, smoothed my hair, took a deep breath and unlocked the door with a smile.
‘Hey girl’
She frowned, pushed me aside and entered my apartment ‘Where were you? I have been knocking for almost twenty minutes now.’
I closed the door and scratched my head for an answer ‘I’m….I’m sorry’
She raised a brow suspiciously.
Think Tess, think before she suspects something worse .
‘I….erm…I was using the restroom. It must be something I ate last night because I have been frequenting the toilet so much’
Her face softened ‘Oh girl, I’m sorry. How do you feel now?’
I exhaled ‘A little light headed, but I will be fine’
‘You should have at least yelled something like ‘Hold on, I’m coming’ instead of making me stand there like a call girl.
‘I’m sorry girl, I was too occupied.’
‘The shit is coming out from your ass girl not your mouth’ she reminded me.
I laughed ‘I know, but things happen’
She sat on the couch dramatically ‘My legs hurts from the standing, you will have to massage them'
I scoffed.
If only she knew how both my hands and feet hurts because I was trying to hide a six-foot tall man in a tiny space.
She glanced around my room and my eyes followed hers. I was praying in my heart that she doesn’t see anything that belongs to Jack, I was also praying that Jack holds his breath and does not even sneeze.
Oh God please help me.
If I get through this today, I will end things with Jack once and for all.
‘Your house is tidy today, hallelujah’ Shirley said, out of the blue.
I feigned annoyance ‘My house is always clean. What are you trying to say?’
She chuckled ‘You know what I’m saying. Your house has always been anything, but clean’
I threw a pillow at her, she caught it and threw it back at me.
‘Stop bullying me’ she said playfully.
‘You are the bully here, you are the one insinuating that I’m dirty’
Her eyes widened ‘I never called you dirty, but if the shoe fits then….’
I gave her the middle finger ‘Fuck you’
She roared in laughter, I laughed too but not so much.
My eyes kept going to the spot where Jack was hidden wondering how he was surviving in that tiny space.
Talking to Shirley could take hours, we haven’t seen each other for a long time now and we would absolutely love to get all the gossip we have missed.
‘Tess?’
My head snapped up ‘Yeah’
‘Why do you keep looking over there?’
Oh shit!!!
‘Huh?’ I asked stupidly.
She stared at me weirdly ‘Your eyes keep going over there. Why is that?’
I swallowed ‘Uhmm nothing….I was just checking my dirty clothes and reminding myself that I really need to do my laundry’
Damn Tess. You are getting so good at lying now.
