Chapter 61

Chapter 61
Levi P.O.V.

I hadn’t been fast enough.

We hadn’t been fast enough.

We hadn’t protected her.

All the different ways that we had failed her, all the ways in which we had it protected her the way that we had promised her, repeated themselves in my mind. I thought I could outrun the bike, whoever was, but I couldn't and now they were only a few pieces behind us and I didn't have a strategy.

‘What do we do?’ Lucas asked. I wanted to be able to give him an answer, to give him some direction to go in in some way to protect her but I didn't have anything because we were in the open road, there was nothing in front of us for miles. no matter how fast we went we wouldn't be able to outrun them because we all had the same bike, we all had the same miles and we all had the same engine.

‘I don’t know.’ the words came out like a whisper. I know that I had set them in the mindlink  but even in my head they sounded like a whisper because I didn't want to say them, I didn't want to tell him that I had no plan. I was always the one that came up with the plans, I was always the one in charge but right now I didn't know what to do. I'm not sure any of us did though, how could we?

The very thing that our father used as horror stories against us when we were little are the same monsters that are following us now.How could I ever have a plan for the monsters under my bed from when I was a child? We thought- no, we hoped that the horror stories that our father taught us were just that. We hoped that they had been wiped out by some other wolves, by some other pack but that news never came.

‘What do you mean that you don’t know?’ Liam asked. He had always been The Quiet One, the one that nodded when I made my plans of War, he nodded when we had found her, he was even quiet when we had to heal her.The only time that he had ever not been quiet in his entire life was when we found out what Aurora's parents had done to her, what they had done to her beta, what they had done to Aurora's little sister emmy.

‘The safe house is still at least fifteen miles away from us right now.’ I explained, keeping my eyes focused on the road. One slip up, one pebble and the five of us would all be toast and eventually dead.

‘Go faster.’ Lucas growled.

I nodded and revved my engine, at least fi we got there faster then we could at least try to get mom and aurora inside of the safe house while we figure out a game plan. The five of us rode until I finally saw it, ‘ The forest is just ahead of us.’ I said through the link.

I hadn’t made an actual plan for this part. How the hell were we supposed to get off of our bikes without slowing down or giving our hunter the benefit of any lost time. That wasn't even a possibility. If we had allowed him ot gain any more speed on us than we would be falling into his hands and we couldn’t have that.

“We need to get to the forest.” I shouted over the revving of engines. It was impossible to know if they had actually heard me, everything seems so loud, it felt like I was only seconds away from blowing my eardrums. The four seemed both so close and so far away and I was worried we wouldn't get there in time. the only safety was knowing the fact that there was only one of them, one motorcycle, one lycan.

We finally made it to the forest, I jumped off of my motorcycle and let it run into a tree while I ran deeper into the forest. There was no time for mistakes, there was no time for me to wait on each of them to jump off of their bikes, there was no time to see how dangerous our enemy looked.

“Come on, we have to move!” I growled.

I didn't know how to make the move any faster. I didn't know how to make the girls stay caught up with us.It was one thing to ask Aurora to try and run at the same speed of us but my mother didn't have the same advantage as her, she didn’t have the same youth, the same spring in each of her steps.

Aurora was sandwiched between Liam and Lucas while my mother was behind them, “Okay, we just need to walk as carefully yet as fast as we possibly can until we can get into the safe house.” I said, trying to make the plan sound like it was easiest thing that any of us had done since the day that we were born.

It was the farthest thing from the truth. there wasn't a single part of this plan that I thought would be easy, but I had to pretend for them. I had to pretend for Aurora and I had to pretend for my mother.

I couldn’t hear him anymore.

I couldn’t hear the hunter but maybe that was the way that he wanted it. He wanted me to think that I had found a way to keep my mate, my mother and even my brothers safe from the danger of our enemy.

Every muscle in my body was tense, “Stop.” Lucas said. His voice was low and I waited to see what he had heard. Then, I heard it.

There was a rustling in the tree’s.

I felt every single muscle in my body grow even tighter, “Girls, low to the ground behind the tree’s.” I whispered, putting myself between the impending danger.

“Wait!” I heard a voice scream.
