Chapter 59

Chapter 59
Lucas P.O.V.

I knew we weren’t safe.

I knew that she wasn’t safe. She would never be safe, not with them breathing in the same part of the world as us. She didn’t understand though, she didn’t grow up with the same stories that we did, she didn’t understand the haunted looks that we had spent half of our lives seeing through our fathers eyes.

Part of me was relieved that she didn’t understand the urgency. That she would never know the way my dad gripped my moms hand even tighter whenever he spoke about the way that children and women were slaughtered. The way that men were forced to watch as their mate was killed right in front of them and there was nothing that we could do. That was the part that terrified me the most, the part that terrified every single alpha.

We liked to lie to ourselves and say that we were undefeatable. Every Alpha that I knew basked in the lie, we told it so many times that sometimes I liked to believe that it was true even in the quiet of my own mind. Then, there was moments like right now when the monsters would come out of their hiding and I knew that they were real.

I could hear the screaming of pack members in my mind. I could hear the screams of children that I couldn’t save. I would have never been able to save no matter how careful we had been. When the Lycans came for you, they left nobody alive and as much as I wanted to change that, I couldn’t.

Then, I heard it.

The one voice part of me prayed I wouldn’t have to hear screaming for some sort of relief, some prayer that we couldn’t answer.

It was my mother.

She was at the orphanage with Aurora’s little sister, “They killed her.” She screaming. I could hear how broken my mother was even in the mind link. The brokenness of not being able to save a child that she already had developed such a strong attachment too.

“Mom, you need to get to the castle now.” I growled, it wasn’t a warning. It was an order directly from her son and Alpha. She needed to get here, now. There was no way of ever getting our home back without our mother. She is the only one that knows the full truth to the horror stories that our father told us.

It felt like my heart stopped, I clutched my chest. I gasped for air, “They killed her.” I whispered, I looked at both of my brothers. It felt like our entire world was being turned upside down and we just barely got our mate back, she can’t know.

“What are you talking about?” Levi asked, there was so many different concerns written on his face when he gripped my bicep. There was something in the way that he grabbed me, something that told me he wasn’t just acting as the Alpha right now. He was acting as a worried brother, a protective mate and right now he was scared. The leader of the Alpha triplets was scared and I didn’t even blame him because I was terrified and I didn’t even know how to deal with that.

“They killed her.” I repeated the words. I couldn’t believe it. I had watched her most of her life with aurora. I had watched her play on the swing sets and try her hardest to pour apple juice into cups and make a mess. I had seen her grow up almost every day since the moment she was born, the way Aurora would always bring her to the morning training sessions and try to be the perfect big sister.

Liam was the second one to move. There was something in the way that he moved that was on pure instinct to protect her, to protect our mate. Not a single one of us wanted to give her bad news right now.

“Mind link now.” Levi growled.

Aurora huffed and crossed her arms, “Such a boy club.” She said, rolling her eyes like us talking in the mindlink was the most annoying and insufferable thing about her life right now, but she didn’t know.

“We need to get going don’t we?” She asked, I could tell that she was getting nervous from everything that I had told her in the room.

“She’s right, we don’t have time to talk about whatever happened right now.” Levi sighed, looking between the three of us.

‘Talk through the mind link and we will figure out what to do from there.Don’t make it obvious though.’ Levi said, trying to be nonchalant. I grabbed Aurora’s hand, “Come on, we need to get to the back of the woods where the bikes are waiting for us.” I whispered, giving her the most sincere smile that I could manage.

It was killing me that I couldn’t tell her. She would get swallowed by the grief of everything that she had done for her sister. She would be traumatized and a lot less likely to move if she knows the truth.

‘They killed emmy.’ the words slipped through the mindlink and I could feel how each of them reacted. The way each both of my brothers looked at me with horror in their eyes but they never stopped moving. Finally we had moved down to the first floor and through the back where our mom was waiting, “Everyone needs to get on a bike. Its the fastest way to move through the woods. These bikes are designed to be pretty quiet but Levi will be taking the lead. Move as fast as you can until we get to the first safe house.” I said, making sure that my eyes stayed focused on Aurora.

‘We will tell her at the safe house. She will at least be safe there.’ levi whispered. Even in his own mind he sounded broken, torn apart. In one way or another we were betraying her.
