Chapter 58
Chapter 58
Aurora P.O.V.
I was exhausted. My body burned from the inside out, my heart hammering against my chest while I waited for him –I waited for him to tell us what was so wrong. What could have scared him like that? what could have made my mate so terrified, so lost for words, in the very moment that he needed to speak the most.
That's what terrified me the most. I was weak, and I was vulnerable and now something was happening that I couldn't control.Lucas has always been the funny one, the spirited one, he has always been the one that can make me laugh or bring out the fire within me when I didn't know I had it.
“They have invaded…” He whispered, the words sounded like a whisper against his lips, it was so quiet that I had barely heard it at all. I had so many questions about who could have come to scare him like that. There was only one that I cared about right now, “ Who?” I asked, it came out of my mouth before I had a minute to register my words. Before I had a minute to think about the gravitation of our problem.
I watched all three of them, the way that they communicated while leaving me out here in the coldness of my own sweat as it fell from my body. I could feel how hard my heart was beating against my chest, it felt like I was suffocating from the inside out. Levi took in a deep breath and exhaled, it was shaky, “ The lycans..”He whispered, going towards the closet and starting to pull bags from the shelf.
That name, for some reason made my blood run cold. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t feel anything but the way the cold air hit my body and the tiredness that seemed to disappear in a second, “What does that mean? Who are they?” I asked, trying to whisper because suddenly nothing felt safe anymore.
Lucas was the first one react.
Before his quick movements, there was only dead silence.
His hands, both of his warm palms landed on the sides of my face. He cupped my cheeks with his thumb against my jawline, “Angel, look at me.” he pleaded, there was something in his voice that made me not want to, I didn’t want everything to change.
And, it definitely would if his voice had any indication.
I gulped, and stared into his perfect eyes.
“They kill without mercy, and they are stronger than any alpha army that has ever lived. We have to leave.” He pleaded, his eyes begged me to get my act together, to pack whatever I needed in the moment.
“Wha- what about the people?” I asked, my voice quivering.
“Love, what my brother is trying so hard not to tell you in a moment where we need to be moving is that everyone in this kingdom will die, us included in a way worse than death. So please, grab what you need from your room and move.” levi asked, but there was something in his voice that told me this was never up for discussion. We were leaving no matter what. It wouldn’t matter if we left all of these people to be slaughtered.
“What about my brother? I won’t leave him.” I said, looking between the three of them. What about my sister?
“My sister needs to be found, too.” I demanded. They all sighed and then nodded their heads, “Okay, is someone going to come with me?” I asked, looking between them while I thought about everything that I would need.
I hadn’t even been set up in a room yet, I didn’t have much besides the clothes that I had been given over the several days that I had been here. I hadn’t needed too, I thought we ahd all of our lives to get me set up in this castle.
“I’ll take her.”Lucas whispered, he looked at me and nodded his head. There was something in the way that he did it, like the nodd wasn’t for me but for my other mates. Something that made me believe that he was telling them that he would keep me safe and I would be protected even if it killed them.
Lucas and I walked down the hall until we made it down to the final room between the three of them, “How fast do I need to be ready?” I whispered, walking through the door and closing it behind us.
“I don't want to scare you but this moment was something that was always a possibility when we took the role as the Alphas.” Lucas said as I walked into the room and grabbed a small backpack from the closet. I never knew why they did that, why would they put a carry on bag in my backpack if we never going to leave.
But it was this.
“I don’t want to scare you but I’ve seen what they are capable. The way they slaughter kingdoms, torture Luna’s in front of Alpha’s. The way they will torture you if we aren’t able to get out of here in time.” Lucas voice broke. A desperate cry from him to get me to move faster but I don’t know what we are running from, I don’t know how long we would run.
His words though, they broke something inside of me. Just pack everything. That was the first thing that came to mind. I started packing the necessities some thin leggings, sweatpants, a few thin long sleeve shirts, and a hoodie. Then I ran to the bathroom and packed a hair brush and bathroom necessities.
“I’m ready.” I whispered, throwing the backpack over my shoulder and tightening the straps.
When I turned around, I saw the look of hopelessness on his face. The desperation for me to move faster was gone, “What’s wrong?” I asked, swallowing the part of me that begged me to never ask that question.
“We have to go now.” He ordered, grabbing my arm and marching down the hall. His pace was almost to fast for me to keep up with as we marched down the steps of the house I had loved.
“They killed her.” Lucas whispered.
