Job

Edgar's fury burned as he summoned the guards to the throne room, they all came in one after the other and he was patient enough till they were complete.

"Alright, I want answers! Who left his duty post during the time of the attack? And don’t you dare lie to me” Edgar said as his eyes turned black.

The guards stood before him, nervously shifting their weight. One of them finally spoke up,

"My Lord, we swear we did our best to protect the citadel. We were on duty, but we didn't see or hear anything unusual."

"Someone here is betraying us! I won't rest until I find out who, so if you have any idea who it mught be who better start speaking up before I take matters more seriously?" Edgar's gaze pierced through them and he could see some of them becoming afraid.

The guards exchanged glances, but no one spoke. Edgar's frustration grew, but he maintained his composure.

"If any of you have the slightest inkling, no matter how small, I implore you to come forward. The future of this pack depends on it" Brandon said this time as he clearly knew that Edgar had lost his patience and also his composure.

Silence hung in the air as the guards remained tight-lipped, Brandon hoped one of them spoke up but when none did, he allowed Edgar to do his heart desire.

“You all are discharged from duty, pack up and leave the guard house before dawn tomorrow” he said and turned to walk away when one of them finally spoke up.

“There is indeed someone in this palace working for them, but that person isn’t a guard, he works in the dungeon kitchens” The guard said and they all looked at him in disbelief that he was bold enough to speak up.

“The rest of you get out of here, you can all keep your jobs” Edgar said and they all hurried away out of the throne room.

“What about me, my Lord. Can I keep my job?” The guard said fearfully.

“No, because you have a new job” Edgar said and the man smiled happily.
