Chapter 524 Carpet Search
Chapter 524 Carpet Search
The dozen or so bodyguards who were originally maintaining order at the scene immediately began searching.
Luann hurriedly tugged on Myron's sleeve, her words tinged with a barely noticeable disappointment.
"Forget it, don't make such a fuss. The banquet starts in an hour."
"How can we let your things get lost? Besides, it won't take much effort to look for it." Myron reached out and gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind Luann's ear.
His eyes held a mix of tender affection.
This sensible, silly girl.
She was willing to inconvenience herself just to avoid troubling him.
If Myron hadn't accidentally seen an old photo of Shirley, he might have been fooled by Luann today.
It was something Shirley had worn when she was alive.
To Luann, it was her mother's keepsake.
Hearing Myron's words, Luann felt both warmed and quietly relieved.
Everyone had been quite busy these past few days, trying to make Anna's birthday party perfect.
She didn't want to cause any fuss at this critical moment and was thinking of going back to search carefully after telling Myron. It was probably nearby.
The bodyguards quickly searched the entire hall but did not find Luann's earring.
"Mr. Curtis, Mrs. Curtis, we didn't find the earring."
Myron shot a cold glance over, making the person immediately lower their head in fear.
"Were you seriously looking?"
The bodyguard, bracing himself, said, "We did a pretty thorough search."
"A thorough search? Hmm, that's a good idea." Myron looked at the neatly laid red carpet on the floor and coldly ordered, "Cut the carpet into 10-square-foot pieces and shake them out one by one. I refuse to believe we can't find it!"
"Yes, sir!"
Luann was stunned, looking at Myron in surprise.
But inside, she felt a sweetness like a tangible piece of candy.
When Ally and Juliet arrived at the scene, it was a mess.
The once pristine red carpet was cut into pieces, and all the bodyguards and service staff were gathered there, each handling a section to increase efficiency.
Juliet stepped forward, puzzled, and asked, "What are you doing? The banquet starts in half an hour, and the venue isn't even set up yet?"
The other person replied, "Luann lost an earring, and we're ordered to find it."
Juliet immediately exchanged a glance with Ally, both seeing the disdain in each other's eyes.
Just then, Anna came down from the upstairs lounge and was stunned by the scene before her.
Ally reacted quickly, running over to help Anna down the stairs before Juliet could remind her.
"Happy birthday, Anna!"
Her sweet, crisp voice rang out.
Anna glanced at her.
She looked familiar.
Wasn't this Ally from the North family, who had run far away when Myron got burned?
Not worth associating with, not worth associating with!
Anna immediately withdrew her hand and looked around.
Hmph, these two used to bully Luann often.
She remembered it clearly!
She might be old, but her mind was still sharp!
"What is going on here?" Anna asked sternly.
Juliet saw an opportunity and immediately went over to add fuel to the fire, "Isn't it because Luann lost an earring? They're making a big fuss searching for it, turning the place into this mess. The banquet is about to start, and if the guests see this chaos, what will they think?"
Ally nodded and chimed in, "I don't think it's that simple. How could an earring just fall off while being worn? Could Luann be deliberately trying to ruin the venue?"
Juliet frowned slightly, her fingers resting on her chin.
Seeing Anna fall silent and deep in thought, she secretly rejoiced.
But what she said was misleading.
"That shouldn't be the case, Ally. I believe Luann isn't that kind of person. Maybe there's some unspeakable reason."
Ally sighed, "I hope Luann isn't like that either, but she's so wealthy. Why would she care about one earring? She could just buy another pair. With her financial resources, this should be a simple matter, right?"
The two of them decided to stop while they were ahead, having said everything they needed to.
Now they just waited for Anna's reaction.
Anna's face was serious, seemingly very displeased.
Under their expectant gazes, Anna finally spoke.
"You're right. If the guests see this, it will indeed be inconvenient to explain to each one."
"Let's do this: delay the banquet by an hour, and you two go wait outside."
Juliet and Ally were both stunned.
That's it?
Ally's voice suddenly rose, "Aren't you angry? Luann is clearly trying to ruin your birthday party! She even had the perfectly good carpet cut up like this! It's not worth it for a lost earring!"
"I think Luann is very frugal, not even willing to replace an earring," Anna said calmly.
"Frugal?" Ally pointed angrily at the expensive carpet, "These costly carpets alone are worth a lot! Besides, Luann spends money like water. How is she frugal?"
Anna was annoyed by Ally's loud complaints.
"Why are you yelling? Why are you yelling! Your voice is the loudest! Whether she's wasteful or frugal, I like it! Don't be an eyesore in front of me, get out now, or I'll throw you out!" Anna waved dismissively, as if they were a virus to be avoided.
Juliet quickly pulled the still-protesting Ally away.
She had figured it out.
Anna was completely biased in favor of Luann.
No matter how much they said, it was useless.
"Let's go, Ally, don't cause trouble."
Juliet forcibly dragged Ally away.
As they left, they could still hear Anna shouting, "Why are there so few people? Get more people here! Cut the carpet over there too! Oh, you guys are so slow, give me a pair of scissors too!"
