Chapter 78—Husband

Astrid’s POV:

I was sitting in the waiting room for many hours now. The surgery was going on and all I did was pray every single second to Jesus for mercy. I must have done bad things in my life, but mom didn’t. So please God save her.

After all that is all I can do right now.

I kept on waiting for some nurse or the doctor to come and tell me “congratulations!”. But I guess that has to wait.

I was growing restless with every passing second. I don’t know, but this different feeling in me told me something wasn’t really right. I just hope that that ‘something’ has nothing to do with mom.

Noah’s POV:

A Few Hours Ago:

I was the anonymous doctor with the name ‘James’.

Yup, it’s me.

I am back.

God, this all is too much! I am going to do the operation of my mother-in-law.

Well, I studied for her, so I had to do this, and this is the only way to win her back. Maybe when she knows that I saved her, maybe she forgives me. I knew that if I told her who I was, then she would have never let me do this. So, this was the only way.

I recently completed my studies. Last month.

So, how did I get the job so fast?

After the internship session completed, I did really well, not to brag. I was one of the top students at the university, so I got offers from many hospitals. But I joined this, after all, I have to treat her here.

“Are you ready, doctor?”

“Yes”

The room closed and I took a deep breath. I am ready.

After a few hours:

“Yes! She is fine!”

“Nice work, doctor!”

The nurses complimented me as I smiled widely at my success. I saved her. I saved Astrid’s mom.

“Go and inform her”

“Okay, doctor”

They left the place and I decided to come a while later. I left too and I appointed the old doctor to carry on from there.

Astrid’s POV:

I was sitting in the waiting room when a nurse entered the room. My heartbeat raced to the top.

“How’s she?”

“Congratulations, mam! She is alright!”

A few tears left my eyes in happiness. That doctor is an angel. God exists!

I almost ran to the ward. “Can I meet her?” I asked a nurse.

“She is still unconscious. She will probably wake in a couple hours”

“Can I meet the doctor who treated her?”

“Uhm, that has to be asked to him. He has worked in anonymity this time, so…”

“Wait. Only this time?”

“But maybe he had a reason”

“Please ask him if I can meet him. I really want to thank him and wish for his welfare”

“Okay, mam. I will ask him”

“Thank you. Today I know that all doctors and nurses are angels from heaven!”

“Oh, thank you so much. We are glad we could put a smile on your face”

I smiled. “I wish you a happy life. Now, I am gonna be with mom but ask the doctor”

“Okay”

I smiled and went inside the ward.

I sat across mom and waited for her to wake up.

After almost two hours, she started moving a little. I took her hand, and she opened her eyes.

“A-Astrid?”

“Mom!!” I hugged her and she half hugged me back as she was still lying on bed.

“Oh God, Astrid, I am so glad!”

“I am so happy too mom!”

“Since when am I here?”

“Quite some… years mom”

She looked at me wide eyed. “You aren’t kidding, right?”

“No, mom… and trust me, it was hell without you”

She smiled sadly. “I am so glad to be back, Astrid”

I smiled back at her. “Enough of being sad now. It is all about happiness from here on!”

“Yeah, you are right”

“Yes mom”

“Where is Noah?”

I looked down. Oh Shit. I didn’t think of any excuse.

“Uhm… he… he has to go out for some work”

“Oh well tell him I am really mad he isn’t here right now!”

“Oh yeah… sure”

She smiled. “Well, something is surely off with you”

“Ah, you will always read me like this, mom! You just woke up. Have rest. I am completely fine and happy!”

“Okay, maybe I need some time to correctly read you then”

“Yes mom” I smiled.

The nurse entered and gave some food like porridge for her to eat.

“Thank you” mom wished her, and she smiled.

“Your daughter is a really good and loyal girl. She came here regularly from past years and has taken good care of you”

“I knew it! You are the best daughter!”

“Mom!”

“Ha-ha. Thank you, sister”

“Yeah. I wish you good time” she left the ward.

“Well, I am missing my son. Where is he?”

“I told you he is out…”

“Out where?”

“I… I don’t know”

“What? You don’t know?” she raised an eyebrow.

“Uhm… yeah mom…”

“Astrid, everything is alright, right?”

“Yes mom”

“Okay. Call him soon”

“Yes mom”

“Hm”

I smiled. “Okay mom, I will come in a minute”

“Alright”

I went out. I have to do something. I have to call him; I can’t tell this to her right now.

The nurse met me on the way.

“Hello mam! The doctor is ready to meet you”

“Oh, he is? I am so glad. But actually… I’m… searching for my husband… can I meet him later?”

“Your husband’s here” that voice startled me.

Noah.
