Chapter 77—Divorce 2

Astrid’s POV:

I decided to leave mom’s house to get to a lawyer and apply for divorce. I got up and went to the door. As I opened it and went outside, a voice scared me.

“Astrid”

I looked at my right side and Noah was standing with his head down. “Don’t do this”

“Don’t do what?” I didn’t expect him to know where I was going.

“You think I don’t know where you are going? Astrid, please try to understand. Don’t do this. This is too much—”

“Yeah, too much, right. And about the fact that you hid everything from me? Yeah, it isn’t big now, is it?”

“It… it is, Astrid, but…”

“I don’t know, and I don’t care, Noah, not anymore. I am done trusting and caring and getting deceived all the time!”

“I didn’t ‘deceive’ you, Astrid, don’t use that word—”

“I will say anything and everything I want, Noah, none can control me!”

“Oh God, I am not controlling—”

“Enough, Noah. Please leave,” I said quietly. “Please…” my voice broke.

“I-I am leaving Astrid, just listen to one last thing” he came in front of me and took my hand. I tried to take it back, but his eyes were moistened and looking at them melted my heart to be a little… I don’t know, better.

“Okay…” I whispered. “What’s it?”

“Please don’t do this. Look, we… we can live separately, cut each other off completely… but not this”

“How’s it different? I mean, what’s the problem in that?”

“I don’t know… I think I just want you not to take this decision on your own. Consult your mom, once she wakes up and then… then do what she says. Please?”

“Noah, but I—”

“I know what I did was wrong, and I am not justifying anything, it is just that… your mom set this marriage. So?”

“Okay” I looked down. “Okay” I repeated.

“Thank you”

“Noah, look” I looked at him. “Don’t come here again”

“As you wish” he looked down.

“Hm”

“Bye, Astrid”

“Bye”

He left the place, and I went back to my room. Maybe I didn’t want to do this too; because it is really difficult to make me do something I don’t want to.

Or maybe it is…

I shrugged my thoughts and sat down on the bed. I don’t even know what I should do now. I have to go to mom, but I don’t think I have the courage or the face to face her ever again. So… I think I will not go today.

Noah’s POV:

I really tried to hide everything, but I knew one day she would know. I just hoped that I would be the one to tell her. I didn’t have any courage to tell her why I did this.

I don’t know if she is okay yet. She is also a heart patient, and that is the real reason I told her that it wasn’t anything very serious.

I regret it.

I know that I have not been a real good husband to her, not even a good friend, but I never wanted to harm her, to hurt her. But I have hurt her a second time.

Xander’s school changed during his higher studies. He took another specialty. So, I have to do this alone.

I decided to study harder because I know what is the key to making this alright.

“Hey. I’d like to apply for the extra classes. Thank you” I called my supervisor in the college, and he was glad I did.

One Year Later:

Astrid’s POV:

I was in my mom’s ward, and I smiled at the nurse.

“Okay, mam. Now you should wait out”

“But I—”

“Please mam. The doctor is gonna perform the surgery. You need to wait out”

“Okay…” I went out.

I went to the waiting room and sat down. Well, yeah, mom survived. I am so glad but today… I feel like I will have a heart attack any minute. Last year was the most difficult for me. A lot has happened.

I haven’t talked to Noah from that day. It isn’t like I don’t miss him, but it’s just… every time I remember him, it also reminds me of everything else and it makes me brave enough to not think about him for some time.

As for mom, she survived till now, but she needed a surgery because the cancer started to spread and if it did, it would have been too difficult to save her.

Oh yeah! I have also told Noah to stay away from my mom. Yeah, maybe it would have been a little difficult for him because he was with her for three years, but I had to. And no, I didn’t meet him or even talk to tell this. I just unblocked him, messaged, and blocked.

Firstly, I appointed Mr. Smith for the surgery, but he couldn’t make it on time. He was a very busy person. So… it was just not possible. And even if he had time, I couldn’t pay for the fees. Although, three days back, someone told me that an anonymous doctor wants to treat her. Of course, I wouldn’t allow a strange doc to treat her, so I asked for information. They told me everything except his face. The name was James. Well, I was quite satisfied with it and also… I didn’t have a choice. Every other doctor’s fees were too high, but this doctor charged very little. They say he is a kind hearted doctor, who treats people for the good and not for money.

Well, if he will be able to do some miracle and save mom, I will really believe that God exists and that he is none other than an angel.
