Chapter 149 CHAPTER 149
JACK
“Let’s get the hell out of here.” Miller peeled his body from my car, jogging to the passenger’s side.
“What happened in there? I heard gunshots?”
I sank my eyes into his curious face, pulling at the seat strap, and wrapping it around my body. “He won’t be a problem anymore. Give me your phone.” He squeezed his face, visibly unsatisfied with my vague response. Then, very gently, he drew out the device and placed it in my palm.
“What are you doing?”
“Attaching a location for our police friends.”
“Location? Where are we going.” I stretched out my arm, waving the phone softly and urging him to take it from my grip. He hesitated before taking it, glancing at the pinned location.
“What is this place?”
I revved the engine alive, pulling the car from the kerb in full gear. “Millicent’s hiding place.” Miller’s eyes widened in surprise.
“How?”
“Mason.”
“He said he didn’t know where Millicent is.”
“If there was one thing my brother was an expert at, it was lying.”
“Was?”
“He’s dead,” I said coldly, speeding away towards the lair of my next prey. Miller’s shoulders sagged, gazing at me with harsh thoughtfulness before proceeding to answer a phone call from one of the officers as several police cars followed behind us.
After today, I’d be dead certain my angel was safe. Dirt from my past had done quite enough damage, tarnishing what I had with my angel.
The soft creak of the floorboards alerted her. “Mason, is that you?” she called from inside.
She had no idea what was coming at her.
“Yes, it’s me.”
She materialised in front of us, only to reel back with a staggering gait. Delighting in the shock written across her face, Miller and I stepped inside, taking our sweet time and making ourselves as comfortable as can be, while the horror etched on Millicent’s face intensified by the fucking minute. I grinned. This was my favourite thing to watch.
She began a clumsy lurch backwards until her spine hit the wall.
“I wouldn’t waste my time if I were you,” I said, folding my arms across my chest and cocking my head.
She turned slowly, keeping her back pressed against the wall as she began edging to her right.
Was she serious?
“Nope…” I shook my head. “Don’t even think about it. I shot my own cousin— I won’t hesitate to shoot you too. So you’re going to stand fucking still and wait for the officers to haul you back to the hellhole you crawled from.”
I dragged my eyes shut. Breathing was hard for me, keeping control was even harder, but I didn’t want to push over the edge.
“Or you can act stupid and try to run. In which case I’ll gladly put a bullet through your fucking head. I won’t be repeating myself.”
She gasped.
Yes. Fucking bitch. Let that sink in.
“Jack… please. I’m sorry. I was jealous—so jealous of what you had with Robin. I tried to forget about you… I really did. But I couldn’t, I love you so much.”
I sniggered, rolling my eyes.
“It doesn’t take bifocals to see right through you, Millicent.”
“Forgive me… I swear to you, Jack. I’ll never go near Robin again. I’ll leave her alone.”
“Oh, now you’ll leave her now? I don’t think so.”
“Please, Jack,” she begged, tears streaming down her face. “I don’t want to go back to that hollow abyss…” Her voice trailed off as she shook violently, desperately searching, trying to find a loophole to escape.
I pulled out my gun and fired into the wall, barely inches from her head.
She froze, her breath trembling, strangled choking noises escaping her lips.
“That’s a fucking warning. I never miss.”
She dissolved into sobs, reduced to pleading.
I loved what I was seeing. Millicent reduced to nothing. Now that was a sight worth savouring.
“Then kill me. Please…kill me. I’d rather die than end up in that torture pit again…kill me.”
Her cries grew louder, sliding down the damp wall and collapsing onto the cold, disgusting floor. Her face buried in her palms.
I scoffed, not nearly moved—taking my glorious time I moved towards her, the gun hanging loosely in my right hand.
With my free hand, I tipped her head up and swept the hair away from her face, feasting on her misery.
“Do you seriously think I’m going to make it that easy for you? Shoot you and give you a quick, painless death?” I clicked my tongue, shaking my head in mock disappointment.
“You don’t deserve that, Millicent.
“You’re going to crawl through every single day in pain. In anguish. In torment.
“You’re going to suffer the greatest misery of your fucking pathetic life.
“Every day, you’ll wish for death. Beg for death. Yearn for death… even breathe for death.
“But it will never come.
“You’re going to wither away while you’re still alive.
“And you’ll become so desperate and frustrated you’ll want to gouge your own eyes out of their sockets.
“So no… I’m not wasting my bullet on a fucking bitch.”
