Chapter 150 CHAPTER 150
Chapter 150 CHAPTER 150
JACK
“FUCK. YOU.” Her breathing hitched, her voice quivering as she held my gaze.
“There she is. The vulture is back.”
I spoke through gritted teeth, my lips curving into a cold smile as I retreated from her.
A deafening loud boom reverberated through the room, officers pouring inside in rows, swiftly forming a perimeter around us.
For one woman, the sheer number of officers girdling around us seemed excessive and borderline outrageous, but when it came to a Schofield, you left nothing to chance—absolutely nothing.
One of the officers seized her by the arm, yanking both wrists behind her back before snapping a pair of handcuffs around them. “Millicent Schofield, you’re under arrest for the murder of George Betton, aiding and abetting DNA fraud, and terrorising the Bettons. Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law.”
“Fuck you…” she whispered as she was being hauled towards the waiting police van.
“FUCKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU!!!” She screamed, her breaths coming in frantic bursts.
“I should’ve killed Robin when I had the chance. I should’ve fucking killed herrrrr! I hate you, Jack! So fucking much!” Her voice climbed higher, then aggressive before turning shrill with pure visceral rage.
“I HATEEEEE YOUUUUU!” She yelled one more time from the depts of her stomach before the police van pulled away. A convoy of police vehicles following close behind, their blasting sirens filling up the afternoon air as they disappeared into the distance.
I glanced at my watch. Where had the time gone? Making my way to my car, I released every ounce of pent-up resentment in a long guttural growl, finally allowing myself a fucking moment of relief.
My baby and her family were unquestionably safe now.
“Where the hell have you been all day? I was going insane with worry.” Robin charged at me the moment I came into view, her petite frame heaving. Fuck, I shouldn’t be stressing her this much.
She stalked towards me, fierce glare fixed on my face. But when she got closer, her earlier irate expression disappeared, concern, worry and angst washing over her beautiful features.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, standing on her tiptoes and cupping my face.
“What happened?” I plonked my head down over her shoulder, wrapping my arms around her small frame and hauling her up onto my body, guiding her legs around my waist.
I needed her.
“Mason is dead.” She tried to pull away but I held her tight, pinning her firmly against me so she didn’t have to look at me. I couldn’t bear to see disappointment in her eyes, it would finish me off. I wasn’t prepared for it just yet because deep down, she already knew who did it.
She breathed, very softly against my flesh. “What happened?” Her lips grazed my skin, hand trailing the vast expanse of my back.
“I killed him.” She tensed up, her hands stilling, her body going completely rigid against mine.
I didn’t regret what I did. I’d do it all over again for the sake of the love of my life, and it wouldn’t matter if the fucker I was up against was my family. Hurting my Robin was a non-negotiable.
“What did you say?”
“I think you heard me, baby. I killed my brother.”
Silence engulfed the space around us for a good minute. I didn’t know what more to expect, maybe a sound of surprise, or something potent aside her body tensing.
But the silence was lingering for far too long making the atmosphere worse. A gasp, a sound of shock or hurling of reproach would be more Robin. She hated when I hurt people, especially for her. Did I do right by her this time? I was growing apprehensive each fucking second she kept quiet. Then, more seconds passed. Still no reaction, only her hands began moving across my back again.
Was I dreaming?
“You’re not mad at me?”
“He tried to kill you once, I guess I’ve run out of sympathy for the man who wanted to take you away from me. It’s you I’m concerned about.” She managed a jerk from my neck, this time I allowed her move. Her eyes staying on mine.
“Are you okay? I know you still cared about him… even behind that heart forged in steel.” I attempted a smile, but failed.
“He said he would’ve hurt me over and over until he had you.” I muttered, dragging the words out. “He was so obsessed with you. Everyone fucking is.”
“It’s you I want. It’s you I need, Jack. It’s you my heart beats for every single day of every second, of every minute, of every hour. It’s always you.”
I dissolved into a fucking mushy mess on the spot. Those words were exactly what I needed to hear. She was the only one that mattered to me, the only one I’d lose my shit for. The only one I’d kill for, even if they were family. She was my blood now, we were one person, I was willing to go above and beyond and do the unthinkable for her and my babies.
I swirled my hands around her neck, pulling her closer to me, taking her hard into my mouth.
“You have this irresistible effect on men.” I whispered against her lips, circling it with mine.
“I don’t care about other men. Just you.” Her forehead fell against mine, fingers tightening through my hair as she attacked my mouth with a divine force. Surprised? Yes, but one I wasn’t going to break anytime soon. She moaned softly into my mouth, her tongue fighting deliciously with mine. She understood me, why I had to do it.
And she wasn’t going to scold me for it, she still wanted me. Even with blood on my hands, even when I wasn’t the typical, traditional fucking perfect man she so desperately wanted me to be. Morally fucking grey and she still desired me.
“I love you.” I whispered. “So fucking much, words could never do justice to how I feel, I can only show it, baby. Every single fucking day.”
“Killing… is you showing it?” I nodded. Not just that, anything to ensure her safety, I was willing to fucking jump on it. Her eyes beckoned me, drenched with desire.
“Yes. I’d take on anyone and anything that threatens your safety. There’s no me without you, baby.” Our faces were so close now, nose touching nose, eyelashes entwining, our soft breaths coming in together.
“I’m a waste without you.” Her hands moved freely around my face, humming to me, eyes slowly drifting shut.
“What would I ever do without you, Robin?” I pulled back gently, needing to see her face, needing to check she was real, needing to feel her closer to me.
“I want to see your eyes.” She leisurely dragged them apart, her exquisite brown eyes looking at me. A fucking goddess in all her glorious beauty.
“You’re so beautiful.” A smile tickled her lips before kissing me softly.
“I’m always going to protect you, always going to love you, always going to serve you. For the rest of my life.” I knew I was pouring out too much, enough to have her frightened but this was a fact—I was dust without her. And there was nothing I could do about it. She was etched so deeply into my heart.
“I’m sorry about this morning, how curt I was.”
“I understand, Jack. You didn’t want me worried.”
“Thank you.” I sighed, kissing her nose, her eyes and her cheeks. “Do you have enough strength left?”
Lust pooled deep in her dreamy eyes, spiking at me.
“Why?” she whispered, biting her lips seductively, her breath slowly faltering.
“I want to lose myself in you.” I mumbled into her ears, nibbling on it. “I’m so hard for you right now, can you feel it?”
She swallowed. “I do.” She turned her head gently, facing me before her lips came crashing onto mine. “Take me upstairs.” She demanded, tugging my lips fiercely into her mouth.
“Gladly.” I moved my hands down her body, cupping her arse cheeks and positioning her steadily against my body before making my way up the stairs to our bedroom—where I first had her.
