Chapter 184 SOMETHING IS WRONG

Chapter 184 SOMETHING IS WRONG
UNKNOWN'S POV

The prick from the needle was sharp and painful.
Sebastian jerked violently in Dax’s arms.

“What–what did you–!”

The words slurred in his mouth almost instantly as the effects were immediate.

His vision started blurring around the edges as everything seemed to tilt in his eyes.

Dax caught him easily before he could collapse fully as his knees finally gave out on him.

“There,” Dax murmured quietly into his ear. “That’s all better isn't it?”

Sebastian tried to fight against it desperately, but the drug had already spread through his bloodstream quickly.

His hands and legs had already stopped responding properly as the world tilted and swayed in his eyes.

No.

No no no–!

He couldn’t lose consciousness here especially with Dax here and Ragnar still away from him.

Sebastian weakly forced his head upwards trying to focus on something.

“Why…” he whispered finally against Dax’s palm.

Dax looked down at him silently for a moment as something flickered in his eyes before he finally responded.

“You are not supposed to be with someone like him,” he said softly.

Sebastian barely understood what he's saying as everything was going far away from him.

Everything sounded so distant and distorted in his ears as the darkness of the cellar started mimicking his vision.

Outside, he faintly heard another distant howl echo through the forest.

Ragnar.

The bond between them pulsed faintly in his chest as he tried to pull on it and ask for help.

But he's too weak.
Sebastian’s throat tightened painfully as he tried again.

Ragnar.

He tried to reach for the bond once more to call through it to him and warn him but even his thinking has slowed down.

Dax adjusted his grip and lifted Sebastian fully like he weighed nothing causing Sebastian’s head to loll weakly on his shoulder.

There was no strength left in him.
His eyes burned.

Ragnar…

Please…

The world blurred completely as everything finally turned black.

Sebastian’s last fading thought was how Ragnar would react finding the cellar empty.
.

.

.

.

“Stay here.”

Ragnar had repeated the command twice to Sebastian before leaving him behind in the cellar.
He hated every bit of it.

Every instinct in him rebelled against walking away from his mate while danger was screaming everywhere in his territory but he had no other choice.

Taking him back to the pack would have been too risky and would risk things especially with the pack crawling with Rogues.

The cabin is secluded and covered with his scent so that has been the safest place he could think of on such short notice.

So he put Sebastian there with peace knowing he'd be back at most within an hour.

Now, as Ragnar tore through the battlefield in his full wolf for soaked in blood all over, he almost believed things might actually go his way.

The rogues were falling faster than expected with bodies littering the floor in disgusting piles so he was certain about their victory.

Ragnar ripped through another rogue’s throat and let the corpse hit the ground with a heavy thud before quickly moving to the next wolf.

Behind him, one of his Betas laughed with a loud voice .

“We’re winning!”

And strangely enough, they were.

It wasn’t often that Rogue attacks ended this decisively because usually it was the Rogues that'll overwhelm them with their numbers.

But tonight?

Tonight they were being slaughtered like helpless animals.

The visiting Alphas alone shifted the balance in the battle heavily.

And every pack leader present here had brought elite warriors with them for the gathering of the challenge.

And now those same warriors carved through the Rogues swiftly without mercy.

Ragnar ducked beneath snapping jaws of one Rogue before crushing another under his paw.

The air reeked of blood and smoke as victory was all but a sure deal.

Good.

Good.

He has to end this quickly and get back to Sebastian.
At this rate, he'll be back before the one hour even reaches.

He wants no; he needs to finish this war and return to his mate and with any luck, complete the mate bond.

That'll be the end to this whole farce and drama.

But then–

Something dark twisted sharply in Ragnar’s chest.
Something familiar that he recognizes.
It's not pain, it's his instincts.

A cold and ugly sensation crawling down his spine.

Something's wrong.
Something's terribly wrong.

Yurik slowed first as the both of them paused to try and figure out why it's happening.

Around him the warriors still fought and shouted with bravery and celebrations but suddenly–

Ragnar wasn’t seeing the battle anymore, at least in his mind.

He was seeing the shape and the structure of it.
And now that he's noticing it, he sees that it's too… clean.

The fighting and the battles were all oddly convenient and organized.

The rogues had come in massive numbers, that's true–
But they fought like they were trying to waste time.

They didn't retreat after seeing their numbers instead they fought like… distractions.

His breathing slowed down as the realization finally set in.

This was all staged.
The attack, the timing of the attack right after the challenge, someone planned all of this.

Ragnar’s eyes sharpened instantly as he looked around the battlefield trying to figure out who could be responsible for it.

He ruled out the warriors and the Betas before going right to the Alphas present.

He saw nearly every pack leader fighting somewhere within the forest.

Mira, Draven, Thorne and even some older council wolves but–

His stomach dropped.

Lance.

Where the fuck was Lance?

Ragnar spun around once more, scanning the battlefield again.

Nothing, there was no sign of him.

And then another absence slammed into him immediately right after.

Dax.

His pulse spiked violently as he looked around and confirmed that the both of them were not her.

No.

No–

Ragnar shifted back into human form immediately with Rogue blood dripping down his bare chest as the nearby warriors were startled at his sudden movement.

“Where the fuck is your Alpha?” Ragnar barked sharply toward a small cluster of wolves bearing Lance’s pack markings.

The wolves blinked in confusion at him.

“We–we haven’t seen him since the arena, Alpha.”

Ragnar’s expression darkened instantly.

“And Dax?”

There's even more silence until one wolf swallowed nervously.

“I thought he was with the eastern flank…”

But Ragnar already knew that he probably wasn't there.

His instincts had never failed him once before.
Something terrible was happening.

And Sebastian–

A violent pulse tore through Ragnar’s chest as he felt genuine and pure fear pulsing through him.

It was not his own it was… Sebastian!
