Chapter 183 FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

Chapter 183 FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN
UNKNOWN'S POV

The world upstairs stopped making any sense to Sebastian as he stayed frozen beneath the cellar stairs with all his muscles locked tightly in fear.

Even with Alpha Dax's voice echoing throughout the house above him like a nightmare, he stayed completely still.

His mind refused to process or accept what he's clearly hearing.

Dax, the Rogues, the attack, none of it was making any sense to Sebastian at all.

None of it fit together, it wouldn't.
If this were a dream scenario, it would be labeled as absurd, much more a scenario that's happening live and in the real world.

And yet–

“I want every room checked again!” Dax barked commands from upstairs with every word. “He has to be here somewhere, find him!”

Heavy paws scraped across the wooden floors above Sebastian as he heard them scatter around the cabin.

Sebastian’s pulse was shaking with fear and much more than that... rage.
This wasn’t random or any coincidence that his kind could cook up, they all came for him.

The realization hollowed him out instantly as he thought about all of the businesses and lives that would be destroyed because of this.

All because Dax wanted him.
Outside, wolves were dying like flies and here they're looking for him, why?

A wave of nausea rolled through him so violently he nearly gagged from the revulsion he felt.

Why?

What could possibly make him so important enough for this to risk annihilation?

His fingers trembled against his knees.
To be caught for doing this would risk the immediate death penalty so why do this Dax?

Alisander stirred faintly somewhere deep inside him but the fights and the litany of drugs were finally acting up against him after being suppressed by Alisander for hours.

And Sebastian– Sebastian was all alone in this situation that required Alisander now more than ever.

A floorboard creaked overhead a little closer this time so Sebastian instinctively shifted backwards, forgetting he's not even visible to them.

And his foot clipped the lantern beside him causing the metal base to tip and make a sharp clanging sound.

The sound spread through the cellar making Sebastian’s eyes widen in horror.

No–

Above him, it all disappeared in total silence.

Every sound the people upstairs were making stopped immediately as footsteps started moving back to the cellar entrance.

Sebastian’s breath hitch painfully in his throat as they advanced.

“...Interesting,” Dax said softly above him.

The sound of claws dragging lightly across wood sent ice trails down Sebastian’s spine making him hold his breath.

Sebastian backed away once more as his heart slammed violently against his ribs.

Don’t breathe Sebastian.

Don’t move or even make another sound.

Above him, something scraped across the floor as he remembered that the same sound happened when Ragnar lifted up the rug.

Sebastian’s stomach dropped.

No.

A loud ripping sound followed as he heard the rug being tossed away and then it was all silent.

But Sebastian knew that the next thing Dax should be looking at should be the trap door.

Dax had found the cellar entrance.

For one horrible second, nothing happened but then the latch was ripped and dropped on the floor making a dull thud sound.

Sebastian shrank back instantly into the darkness below.

Please, please don’t see me–

At the top of the stairs, Dax stood perfectly still watching the darkness that should've hidden Sebastian’s figure perfectly.

It should have.

But then, Sebastian through the cover of moonlight actually saw Dax smiling at him.

“You really are here,” he murmured softly.

Terror crashed through Sebastian so hard that his vision blurred. He can see me, he actually can?
There was barely any light so it should've been impossible but he actually can?

But Alpha Dax descended the stairs slowly but without hesitation, panic spread though Sebastian.

How is this possible?
In Dax's eyes, it's almost as if daylight and darkness meant absolutely nothing to him as he walked closer and closer.

Sebastian scrambled backward desperately.

“Stay away from me,” he whispered hoarsely but Dax ignored him completely.

Sebastian tries to channel Alisander but panic drowns everything else out as Dax only gets closer.

“Don’t make this difficult,” he said quietly.

Sebastian sighed and then immediately lunged sideways, trying to dart past him toward the stairs–

But Dax moved impossibly fast.

A hand caught Sebastian’s arm brutally hard without any warning.

Sebastian cried out in shock as he was yanked backward violently and so much so that his body slammed against Dax’s chest.

“No!” Sebastian struggled instantly as he weakly summoned his claws to scrape uselessly against Dax. “Let me go!”

Dax’s grip tightened like iron as he let out a sigh of pain.

“Easy Sebastian.,” he muttered.

But Sebastian only thrashed harder as fear surges wildly through him.

If Dax was willing to risk it all to get him, what would he do to him?

“Ragnar!” he shouted instinctively.

Dax’s expression darkened immediately as his free hand clamped hard over Sebastian’s mouth.

Among all his powers as an Alpha of Alphas, one he was renowned for was his really good hearing.

And with the war dwindling to nothing, Dax couldn't risk that fact.

“Quiet!”

He hushed Sebastian but all Sebastian did was bite down on him instantly.

Hard too.

Dax hissed softly but didn’t loosen his hold on Sebastian, instead he merely sighed.

“You always make things difficult, you know?” he murmured almost tiredly from behind Sebastian.

Sebastian’s chest heaved violently as he tried to tear free from his right hold but the difference in strength between them was far too great.

Especially now without any drug help or Alisander.

Panic spiraled higher in his veins.
What is he going to do to me?

The question clawed through him viciously.

Why did Dax want him this badly?

What did any of this mean for him to risk a pack war?

Dax shifted slightly behind him and without warning, Sebastian suddenly felt something cold brush against his neck.

His eyes widened as he thought of what it could be.

A syringe.

“No–”

The needle pierced his skin instantly before he could even react or resist.
