Chapter 182 AN IMPOSSIBLE FEAT
Chapter 182 AN IMPOSSIBLE FEAT
UNKNOWN'S POV
Sebastian curled his fingers tighter around his knees and tried not to think about what might be happening beyond these walls.
He desperately tried not to imagine Ragnar bleeding somewhere out there as he's trapped in the dark here.
He also tried to block it all out and not to listen to every scream carried here by the wind.
Why was it so windy anyway?
He's sure Ragnar secured the windows and door before he left.
He listened even more closely to hear that the sound wasn't what he thought but rather if something crackling like a… fire?
Sebastian looked up with his brows furrowed in confusion as he listened and heard another crackle just for confirmation before his hanging heart relaxed.
And then when he thought it's all over, he heard a soft thump overhead moving closer and closer to the cabin.
“...Ragnar?”
He sat up slowly as above him, the smell changed and really confirmed its fire.
Maybe he's hearing things and there's no one there.
If there were really no people there, then he's about to burn to a crisp if that fire doesn't stop.
The fire spread around just enough to produce smoke and attention before–
It just stopped like something put it out
Outside the house, contrary to what Sebastian could see, several rogues abruptly stopped as their heads all lifted simultaneously to the appearance of smoke.
One of them gave a low growl before changing directions with the others following after it through the trees instantly.
Because to this wild animal, something burning meant life.
And life meant prey they could hunt.
________
The rogues moved quickly through the forest as large massive black wolves slipped through the shadows of the growing evening.
Their maws and jaws were dripping and drooling with saliva at the expected prey they found at the fire.
But the closer they got to Ragnar’s private house, the slower and more cautious they became because of the stench or rather the smell of the powerful Alpha that lived there.
Some even grew cowardly and chose to run away but the more hungrier and persistent ones chose to stay and wait.
And like magic, the smoke from the fire actually dulled down the scent markers around the property so they lost their reservations and circled round the house but they didn't get any smell of anything there.
It smelt like a deserted house.
One rogue snarled low in its throat before approaching the house carefully as the other Rogue wolf tried and actually managed to open the door with his snout.
What a solstice miracle that should be credited to the Moon goddess!
Inside the coin, it's a bit dark from the lack of light but it didn't affect them.
Still, they still moved in cautiously because of the remnant scent of the strong wolf that lived here.
They started growling, sniffing and searching around as their claws and paws clicked softly against the wooden floors.
But there was nothing.
No scent path or trail or even prey.
The fire, though it had helped them, had also erased everything.
Sebastian pressed himself silently with fear beneath them under the wooden floors and barely breathing.
He could hear their rumbling and heavy footsteps that made him shiver with fear
He dared not make even the smallest sound or he'll be caught and killed.
But Sebastian forced himself to be calm and trust the mechanisms of all that Ragnar has done to keep him safe.
Now the pumpkin spice candles were not needed since the fire took care of that
They would never find him.
Ragnar had hidden the cellar entrance carefully so everything should be okay.
Everything will be okay, it'll –
A voice suddenly echoed through from the house above him making him stop his thinking short.
It's in a human tone and not with the snarling or growls he's sure Rogue's communicate in.
And even worse, the words or rather the person's voice was familiar.
“Have you found the owner of the shirt yet?”
Sebastian froze as his blood ran cold instantly.
His blood ran cold instantly.
No.
No–
It couldn't be possible!
But if he's heard the person and can confirm it, it was probably right.
That voice belonged to… Alpha Dax .
Upstairs, silence is the only thing that answered Dax.
Then angry footsteps followed from someone pacing.
Seeing as how Rogue's could never transform, it was probably Dax.
“How hard is it to find one weak Omega in this entire pack?!” Dax snapped viciously at one of the Rogues.
Sebastian’s breath hitch in his mouth as he heard him speaking.
His heart slammed violently against his ribs as a terrible idea started taking root inside his mind.
What if it was all planned?
What if the attack is just Dax's stupid plans?
“I gave you one job,” Dax snarled at whoever he's talking to. “Find Sebastian. What's so hard about that?”
The rogues whined faintly in response but Sebastian is not even worried or surprised by the fact that he could communicate with Rogues.
Sebastian stared upward in complete disbelief as his mind struggled to process that he's the one Dax is looking for.
Rogues…
They were listening to him. Finally, Sebastian's mind thought about that fact.
Even worse than he was able to communicate with them, they were not attacking and were instead obeying him.
That was impossible, that shouldn't even make sense, Rogues were mindless and broken wolves driven insane after losing themselves and to let yourself be scratched or bitten by one would turn you into one.
So how are they following commands and organizing attacks like trained soldiers?
They couldn’t–
Dax’s voice cut through his spiraling thoughts once more.
“Where is he?!” he shouted furiously. “He’s just one person!”
Sebastian’s stomach dropped as he remembered another thing.
The attacks and all the carnage, death and chaos all happening outside was… it was all because of him.
They were searching for him and the only reason or method he could think of is a pack Rogue attack.
And Alpha Dax–
Alpha Dax, that bastard was the one leading them.
Sebastian pressed a shaking hand over his mouth as a fresh round of horror crawled through him slowly.
Why?
Why the hell would Dax do this?
Why would he gain working with rogues?
And most importantly, why was he hunting him? He's never harmed Dax before.
