Chapter 22 Spy in the base

Chapter 22 Spy in the base
Lucian

Fear was vivid in her eyes as I pulled the box from under the bed. I thought I wouldn't use it, but she left me no choice.

Who would have thought Aria would attempt to escape again, despite the warning I have given her?

And I know where this came from. If Jude hadn't called me early to say that the test was ready, I wouldn't have believed it.

Aria is a mere human, and maybe she has a stronger gene which would explain why she was so active yesterday. But it still doesn't rule out the fact that she's just human.

So, there's no way she would have known she was my mate. There's no one who would have informed her except the little human assistant I gave her.

“What are you going to do to me? What do you mean by consent!” She bombarded me.

I ignored her and instead pulled out the chain from the box.

She gasped at the sight of what I was holding.

“If I wasn't fast enough, you would have been dead, Aria. Those glasses would damage your skin. I don't think any doctor would be able to mend you. Jude took out over a dozen glasses from my skin. If it were you, do you think you would survive it?”

She swallowed harder. “This is your fault. You are the one holding me here against my will!” She yelled angrily.

Ignoring her words, I moved to clamp the chain to the bed frame.

“There's something you are still missing, Aria, but I will remind you,” I said dangerously, as I moved closer to her.

She tried to run again, but I caught her and easily placed the chain around her left hand.

“Now you are chaining me to the bed? Isn't mates all about consent!”

“Oh, I see they are putting ideas in your head.”

“But I'm right, aren't I?”

“Yes! Because you are mine! My mate! Mine alone!” I declared in a thick voice that seemed to set fear around her. “And there's nothing you can do about it! Sit still, I will be back!” I ordered.

Without waiting for another word from her, I walked out.

“Get back here! What do you think you are doing! Come and unchain me!” She yelled after me.

I merely smiled before closing the door against her. Now, let's see how she would escape.

“Alpha,” Ben appeared in front of me. “I caught her while she was trying to escape.”

I huffed. I knew it was Chloe. She was the only one who would dare to dance near my blade around here.

“Where is she?”

“The basement.”.

We walked to the basement. Chloe was in the middle of it, tied to a chair. She tried several times to get free but that doesn't seem to be working for her.

I regarded her for a moment. She definitely smells like a human. She must be one, so I don't understand her audacity.

She looked up and I realized she had been crying.

“Please, let me go.”

“You came to my pack to intentionally cause trouble, Chloe? And you didn't care about your head?”

“Please, I’m so sorry. Forgive me.”

I scoffed. “You didn't know the rules around here? I bet you don't but I have no idea why you still try it. Are you daring me?” I yelled the last part and watched her shudder with fear.

“I'm truly sorry. I thought she was aware. I didn't know she didn't know. It was a slip of tongue.”

I regarded her for another moment, before I moved closer and rounded her for a moment.

“Have you heard of my torture?” I started. “You won't die, Chloe, but you would desire it.”

Chloe sobbed even harder.

“And if you are a good girl and answer my questions honestly, this will be easy for you.”

She sucked in her breath. “I will be honest, I promise,” she assured.

“Good. Tell me then, everything you told Aria.”

“I was disturbed after your sister confronted her. So, I asked her why she was being treated like that when she was your mate.”

I studied her expression for a moment. She seemed very shaken. She's telling the truth, but I don't think that's all.

“That's all?”

“Y_yes,” she stammered.

“Ben, get me the torture rod.”

Ben bowed slightly and hurried to provide what I had asked for.

“Please, I'm telling the truth. Let me go!”

I crouched in front of her, so she would be able to see my angry face very well. She should be grateful I'm still like this with her.

If my wolf weren't wounded, she might be dead already.

“I employed you yesterday and you are already giving my mate silly ideas. Who sent you here?”

She hesitated, as if contemplating whether to talk or not.

“You won't have much choice when Ben returns.”

“Will you spare me if I tell the truth? Will you let me go?”

“That's not up to you to negotiate,” I muttered angrily.

She swallowed harder. “Ok, I will talk then. Please spare me. I'm only doing what I was sent to do.”

“Who sent you?”

Another hesitation. “Alpha Kael.”

What!

Everything Selene had told me the night before came running back. Was Aria truly working for Kael? Or why would Kael send a spy into my packhouse for her?

“My job was simple. I was supposed to twist her mind against you, so she's forced to escape and obviously make Alpha Kael the good person here.”

Wait

“She doesn't know about Alpha Kael?”

“She doesn't. I told her a lot she needed to know about him so that she would go to him when she leaves here,” she explained.

A sigh of relief escaped me. Aria wasn't working with the enemy. That actually made me feel better.

But at the same time, I felt a stab of annoyance.

“How? Aren't you human? How did you decide to infiltrate my base like that?”

“Alpha Kael approached me two days ago. He promised to make me a werewolf if I could complete the mission. Since you were employing humans and I was one, it made everything easier for me.”

I clenched my fists in anger. Kael made my mother betray me. Now, he's after my mate.

“My mission was simple, make Aria run to him.”

“Was there a place planned for you guys to meet?”

She nodded quickly. “I meet him over there every time I need to see him.”

“Good! Do this last thing and I will let you go.”

Her eyes brightened up. “Really?”

“I don't go against my words.”
