Chapter 29
Asher's pov
I came out of the bathroom, my body was dripping and my hair was soaked. I could see little steam coming out of my body and I smiled as some silly thoughts passed through my brain.
I dried myself and then I wore the new pair of clothes the head maid brought to me. I had stopped her from bringing the usual all-black I used to wear.
Things were a bit different now and I had to become more responsible than before. I looked at the mirror and I smiled at how I looked.
My hair was still the same but I was wearing a white shirt and black pants with a pair of casual sandals. A watch, a necklace and a ring were the only accessories I wore and I looked smart.
I loved this look, it made me seem more responsible and more fatherly. I smiled at the thought.
Amelia had finally given in to the idea that I meant it when I said I was going to treat the twins like they were my own.
It has been almost a week since the birth of the twins and we are yet to give them a name. I didn't want to rush it because I wanted to give Amelia her space but it was getting a bit too long now.
I didn't want to pressure her though, I wanted her to do things in her own space. After what had happened, I wanted to make her feel safe and in control, I wanted her to gain back her self-esteem and the only way to do that was to make sure she wasn't afraid anymore.
I sighed and then I smiled. I had to keep a smile on my face always, this way, Amelia would always smile too. It made me happy that she was happy.
I loved Amelia very much and I realized lately that I always have to put her first. No matter what happened from now on, I wasn't allowed to be angry or to pout. I was only allowed to make sure Amelia was okay.
I walked out of the hotel rooms and towards my car. When I got in, I revved up the engine and drove off to the hospital.
When I entered the hospital, I could feel everyone's gaze on me. It was mostly like this but today's gaze felt different and I could tell immediately that it was courtesy of my change in aesthetics.
I smiled as I greeted people and I could see them look at me with a bit of surprise. I wasn't exactly cold to them or anything but I wasn't extremely friendly to strangers either.
The doctor walked to me and eyed me from head to toe. He seemed surprised and it was like he was double checking to make sure I was the one standing before him.
“I must say, I like this you better.” the doctor spoke with a wide smile on his face.
“just because of a small change in style?” I chuckled as I asked the doctor. I found people's reactions to my change a bit silly and unfounded.
“It's not just that Mr Asher, you just have this fundamental change in you like you are glowing.”
I furrowed my brows to show my confusion and the doctor laughed. I was even more confused but before I could ask, he spoke instead,
“You seem happier is all.”
I froze for a bit at his words and I pondered it. Did I really look happier? Was I happier?
I guess I was and I smiled widely when I thought of the reason why. Amelia was my life and she made me glow and now, we had a pair of twins to fill up more of that life. I couldn't be any happier.
I walked into Amelia's room to find her placing the twins in their cradle. She must have just finished feeding them.
She looked very surprised to see me in my new style and I could see in her eyes that she liked it a lot.
“You seem to be glowing.” She giggled and I felt my face go red as I blushed. She approached me and she hugged me. I hugged her back and we stared at each other for a while.
“Why the change?” She asked and I smiled.
“Honestly, at first I didn't know. I just wanted to look more responsible and…. fatherly.”
Amelia smiled as I said fatherly and I could see that she was genuinely happy that I was referring to myself albeit indirectly as their father. My smile widened and I continued,
“But after hearing what the doctor said and the reaction of others, I believe it's because I'm different from before. I'm happier now and I have to look like it, especially when I'm coming to visit the sources of my happiness.”
Amelia blushed and I leaned in and kissed her. We pulled back but we remained in our positions with our arms wrapped around each other.
“It's been a week now, I've finally decided to name them and I wanted to run it by you first.”
I smiled even more. I had expected her to have done the naming and told me later but she hadn't and it made me feel happy. I had no idea for names though and I decided to let her handle it and just agree to anything she said.
“What do you think of Mason and Jason?” She asked and I waited a bit before answering her. I didn't want her to think I just agreed without even giving it a thought.
“It sounds perfect for our twins.”
Amelia smiled and leaned her head on my chest and we just stood like that for a while. I felt warm and I didn't want to let go but we had to when the door opened and the doctor walked in.
“Mr and Mrs Asher, I have good news. Your wife's vitals are perfect and so are the kids, they seem very stable now. Your wife is now free to go home.”
