Chapter 48
"Nora doesn't know either?" How messed up must Nora's personal life be for her not to know who her child's father is?
"Isn't this all thanks to you? How this child came to be, why Nora ended up in a stranger's bed - shouldn't the Smith family and the Adams family know best? To destroy a woman, you people stopped at nothing. And now you're asking me who the child's father is." Jasper was angry.
"Mr. Thomas, you have a huge misunderstanding about our Mr. Smith. Our Mr. Smith has never done anything to you, nor would he stoop to doing anything to you." David was also a bit angry, defending Michael.
Jasper just found it ironic. "The Smith family - none of them are good people."
"Even if Nora was set up and that's how she had Samuel, how could she not know who the man was?" David asked in disbelief.
Jasper couldn't be bothered to explain to David and turned to find Samuel.
Just then, Michael came out holding Samuel.
Jasper walked over and took Samuel from him. "Thanks for today, Mr. Smith. I'll pay back the money. Just give me a deadline."
Michael frowned. They really were siblings - Jasper and Nora had the exact same stubborn temperament.
"The Smith Group has a charity foundation. Samuel's situation qualifies for assistance. I've already had David handle the application. All future treatments at this hospital will be free." Michael said flatly.
Jasper paused, then lowered his voice. "We don't accept charity from the Smith family. I'll pay back the money within two months. Thank you, Mr. Smith."
With that, Jasper left holding Samuel.
Samuel lay on Jasper's shoulder, his eyes fixed longingly on Michael.
He really wished Michael was his dad.
Michael wanted to say more, but seeing how guarded Jasper was, he didn't.
"Have you found Nora?"
David shook his head. "Nora didn't use her ID to buy any tickets. Emerald City is huge - if she wants to hide, it's really hard to find her."
"Who hit Samuel in the face?" Michael asked.
"Aiden went to Jasper's repair shop early this morning. They probably burned the house too, and Samuel was also hit by Aiden..." David was actually a bit angry too. No matter how deep the grudge between Nora and the Adams family and James, they shouldn't take it out on a child.
Isn't that basic human decency? What did a child do wrong?
But Aiden had been so reckless, hitting Samuel.
"I remember reminding the Adams family that I was the one who called the police, and they shouldn't cause trouble for Nora." Michael's voice was heavy.
David knew Michael was angry - really angry.
The Adams family was definitely going to pay for this.
---
The Adams Villa.
"Evelyn still hasn't woken up?"
"The doctor said Evelyn was traumatized, her health is poor, and she hasn't had surgery yet." Ava sat on the sofa crying. "How can Evelyn be so unlucky! It's all that Nora - she deliberately called the police to frame Evelyn, she wants Evelyn dead. How can she be so evil!"
Owen sat nearby with a dark expression, saying coldly, "Where is Nora?"
"Dad, Nora ran away." Aiden entered the living room, looking a bit nervous.
"Ran away? I told people to bring her here. How did you let her escape?" Owen demanded.
Aiden's eyes flickered, and he said quietly, "I went to Jasper's place looking for her. She wasn't there, so I had people beat up Jasper. I might have tipped her off."
Aiden had gone early that morning wanting to scare Nora away. If possible, let her run and never come back to Emerald City. If she came back, she'd definitely die.
Owen had really decided to kill her this time.
"Aiden, Evelyn is your sister." Ava reminded him with a sob.
"That's why I suggest we find volunteer donors first. Once Evelyn's health improves, we can catch Nora and make her pay. She's hiding now and we can't find her. If we delay Evelyn's treatment, that would be bad." Aiden tried to calm Owen and Ava.
"Her life belongs to Evelyn. If we don't use hers, whose should we use!" Ava disagreed. "The director said Evelyn's body is still very weak and can't handle a transplant surgery in the short term. We still have time. Within a month, we must find her."
Aiden was silent, then finally nodded. "Okay, I'll definitely bring her back."
"This is bad, something happened with the company." An assistant ran in from outside. "Mr. Adams, the Smith Group suddenly cut off their partnership with the Adams family. With them pulling out their investment, our funds can't flow. Everything else is manageable, but if we can't pay the workers, it'll delay the project timeline. If we can't deliver on time, the penalty fees..." would be astronomical.
Owen's expression changed as he looked at Aiden. "The Smith Group? Go ask them if there's been a mistake. The Adams family and the Smith family are connected by marriage. Evelyn is James's fiancée. Which idiot at the Smith Group dares to cut off cooperation with the Adams family?"
"It's the Executive President, Michael." The assistant took a deep breath and said quietly.
