Chapter 47
Michael didn't explain, just glanced at David. "Send someone to find her."
His gaze fell on Samuel's cheek, and Michael's expression darkened. "Who hit him?"
Samuel lowered his head and said nothing.
Jasper sneered. "Mr. Smith, what's this supposed to mean? Aren't you people the ones who casually trample others underfoot?"
Samuel looked up at Michael, his eyes red-rimmed.
Suddenly, Samuel felt a warmth in his nose, and dark red blood gushed out again.
Samuel fearfully raised his hand to cover his nose, turned around and squatted on the ground, not daring to let Michael see, afraid of scaring him.
"Samuel." Jasper threw down the stick in his hand and quickly grabbed tissues to wipe Samuel's nosebleed, but his injured hand was clumsy, smearing blood everywhere.
David wanted to rush over to help, but unexpectedly Michael stepped forward first, taking the tissue to wipe Samuel's nosebleed.
"Go to the hospital." Seeing Samuel's nosebleed wouldn't stop, Michael frowned, feeling somewhat anxious.
"Give me back my child." Jasper looked at Michael warily, not knowing what he was really trying to do. Playing charity?
"Jasper, Mr. Smith is doing this for the child's good. You'd better come to the hospital too. Now's not the time to be stubborn." David reminded him and opened the car door for Michael.
Jasper hesitated for a moment, dusted off his clothes, and got into Michael's car.
David glanced at Michael through the rearview mirror. Something was really off.
And he had a strange feeling that Samuel and Michael looked somewhat similar.
Could it be that six years ago...
Startled by his own thought, David quickly shook his head. No, Eugene said it was Aria, and Aria herself admitted it. She could even describe details from that night and the room number.
A young woman wouldn't joke about her reputation like that.
Besides, if the person that night was really Nora, how could she not recognize Michael?
Was there any woman in Emerald City who didn't know Michael?
Shaking his head, David thought he was probably overthinking it. Maybe Michael just simply liked Samuel as a child.
"Daddy." On the way, Samuel sat obediently to the side, holding a tissue to his nose, calling out softly.
Michael rubbed Samuel's head. "Don't be scared, we'll be at the hospital soon."
Samuel looked at Michael with red-rimmed eyes. "Daddy, where did Mommy go?"
"Mommy went to buy toys for Samuel, she'll be back soon." Michael signaled David to find Nora quickly.
David nodded.
Having lost so much blood today, plus being hit and frightened, Samuel felt dizzy.
Jasper nervously looked back at Samuel, seeing him listless, and asked quietly, "Mr. Smith, do you have any food in the car? Samuel gets low blood sugar."
If he had any other choice, he really wouldn't ask Michael for help, but he'd gotten in the car in such a rush that he forgot to bring Samuel something to eat.
Michael paused. He was a germaphobe and usually kept nothing in his car.
David also nervously shook his head. "Mr. Smith, there's nothing in the car."
"Keep some snacks in the car from now on." Michael frowned and said.
David, who had been too shocked by Michael these past few days to speak much, nodded repeatedly.
Hospital.
Michael carried Samuel for tests, while Jasper was also dragged away by a doctor to be forcibly X-rayed and have his hand injury treated.
"Medical fees? And the child's examination fees? Sir, they've already been paid." When Jasper went to pay after his hand was bandaged, he was told it had already been taken care of.
Frowning, Jasper wasn't sure what Michael meant by this.
Michael was also from the Smith family.
The ones who had nearly destroyed his family back then were the Smith family and the Adams family.
Jasper couldn't possibly have good feelings toward anyone from the Smith family, but someone as powerful as Michael had no reason to want anything from Samuel. His concern for Samuel didn't seem fake.
"How much was the total?" Jasper asked quietly.
The lady at the billing counter looked. "Sir, the examination and medical fees total six thousand seven hundred dollars."
Jasper froze. Six thousand seven hundred dollars—he didn't have that much money to pay Michael back right now.
"Mr. Thomas!" David, having finished buying snacks for Samuel, walked over with a serious expression. "About Samuel's condition, we need to talk. The tests found that Samuel has hemolytic anemia. Were you aware of this?"
Jasper nodded.
"Is it hereditary? Who is the child's father?" Michael had consulted with specialists, and they still recommended that the biological father cooperate with the investigation to determine the specific cause and analyze whether allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation might be needed.
"I'd like to know who that bastard is too." Jasper said in a low voice.
David looked at Jasper in shock. Nora couldn't possibly joke about the child's medical condition—this required the biological father's cooperation.
Could it be that Nora really didn't know who the child's father was?
