Chapter 49
Aiden's face changed, and he suddenly stood up. "Michael?"
Michael had been meddling in Nora's business before, so what was this supposed to mean now? Was he helping Nora?
Nora really had some skills to get Michael to help her.
How low and cheap had she stooped?
His fingers clenched one by one, and Aiden left the living room with a dark expression.
"Contact James, I'm going to the Smith Villa!"
To drag Nora back!
On the train to Silverlight City, Nora curled up in a corner, eating a sausage.
She had snuck onto the train without a ticket, afraid that the Adams family and the Smith family would track her down using her ID.
The station was coming up soon.
She'd probably have to stay in hiding from now on.
After getting off at the train station, Nora ate some instant noodles while looking for a payphone to call Jasper.
"Jasper."
"Nori, where did you go?" Jasper asked nervously.
"Jasper, don't worry about me, I'm fine. Give me an account number, and once I start working and making money, I'll send you money every month." Nora took out a notebook and pen, asking quietly.
"You just got to a strange city, settle yourself down first." Jasper felt bad for Nora. "Don't worry about us."
"Just think of it as saving money for Samuel. We'll need money for his treatment later." Nora's voice was slightly hoarse.
Holding back tears and keeping her emotions from breaking down, Nora spoke again. "Jasper, I'll be fine."
"Today, Michael came and took Samuel for tests. I don't know what he's up to."
Nora's hand holding the phone froze for a moment. Michael went there?
"Jasper, Michael is different from James." Nora explained for Michael. "But we're right to keep our distance from the Smith family."
"Don't worry about things on Jasper's end, they can't do anything to us."
"It's just that Samuel's condition has gotten more serious. He had several nosebleeds today and we had to go to the hospital to stop them. We still need to find his biological father." Jasper was a bit nervous, afraid of upsetting Nora.
"I know, I'll find him." The reason Nora came to Silverlight City was also to see someone.
That year at the Emerald City hotel, besides Mason and Terry, there was one other person most likely - Walter, the CEO of Mountain Construction Group. He was also the only one who found her after the incident and told her that as long as she was willing to go with him, he would help her and wouldn't let her go to jail.
"Nori, take care of yourself out there." Jasper's voice was very low.
Nora agreed and wrote down the bank account number. "I'll hang up now then. I'll contact you often."
After hanging up, Nora looked blankly at the unfamiliar city.
How could she meet Walter?
Mountain Construction Group was no less powerful than the Smith Group. Though not in Emerald City, its strong influence in Silverlight City wasn't something ordinary people could reach.
Back then, Walter took an interest in Nora because of a ballet performance.
Nora performed a solo on behalf of her dance company that amazed everyone. Afterward, someone came to say that a big shot had taken a liking to her.
That year, Nora was only nineteen, young and naive, and she deeply hated that kind of thing. Besides, she had James and didn't care about anyone else.
She directly rejected Walter, but that only sparked his competitive spirit.
For a long time, Walter used various means to find out about Nora, even tracking her down at school.
Unable to stand it anymore, Nora said many harsh things to Walter, and after that, he stopped bothering her.
At that time, she didn't know she had offended such a dangerous person.
It was only after going to prison that Nora heard that the Wood family of Mountain Construction Group was actually no less powerful than the Smith family, and was also an absolute business giant.
Even when the Smith Group cooperated with Mountain Construction Group, they were on equal footing.
The night of the incident six years ago, Nora attended a charity reception in Emerald City. After the whole fake daughter incident came out, Nora didn't plan to participate in these events.
But that day Aiden found her and said she had to go on behalf of the Adams family, because the invitation had Nora's name on it, and for the sake of the Adams family, she had to go.
Nora went, not knowing it was a trap Aiden and Evelyn had set for her.
At the reception, Nora saw Walter again. He told Nora that if she couldn't make it in Emerald City, she could come find him in Silverlight City anytime - he had more than enough to support her.
Nora refused again and hid in a corner where she drank from a glass someone handed her, then became dizzy and lost consciousness.
During those five years in prison, Nora thought through every man who might have been in her room that night. Walter was the most likely, because she had offended Walter.
"Need a place to stay? Hotel! Need a taxi?"
Outside the train station, people trying to get customers shouted at Nora. Nora stood there awkwardly for a moment - she only had five hundred dollars on her, not nearly enough for a hotel.
Lowering her head, she left the train station and found a 24-hour bank, curling up in a corner to rest.
It was too late today. Tomorrow she'd look for work.
First get settled, then figure out how to find Walter and get answers.
