Chapter 236
Chapter 236
For a split second, Nora stood motionless, anxiety creeping up her spine. What could have brought Michael here?
She turned to look at Samuel and asked quietly, "Did you tip Michael off?"
Samuel averted his gaze, refusing to meet her eyes. "I don't know."
"Don't lie." Nora pinched Samuel's little belly - Samuel had gotten chubbier lately.
"Milo let me borrow his watch, so I called Dad without telling you," Samuel admitted, guilt evident in his lowered head.
"Samuel!" Nora was a bit angry. She didn't want Samuel to keep bothering Michael.
After all, she and her son were just dependent on Michael.
"Michael." James spoke in a low voice.
With the unexpected arrival of the Fields family, Michael’s status with Nolan was not yet fully severed.
Until Michael was officially ousted from the Smith Group, James needed to conceal his true feelings.
"Evelyn, what's going on? Why is Mr. Smith here?" Claire looked at Michael in surprise and asked Evelyn quietly.
Evelyn's face looked terrible. She spoke in a low voice, "Michael, don't be fooled by Nora's appearance. She promised to donate a kidney to me, now she’s reneging. It shows how untrustworthy she is.."
"Why should Nora donate a kidney to you?" Atticus was shocked. So this Evelyn really was trying to scam someone's kidney!
Evelyn looked at Atticus angrily. "Michael, look, this is Nora's lover, and that little bastard is this man's son. They came to parent's day together. The money Nora extorted must have all been spent on this man!"
Evelyn’s voice rose purposefully, making sure everyone could hear her accusations.
Nora had gone to prison for extortion back then - where did that money go?
It must have all gone to this man.
"Me?" Atticus pointed at himself.
"Yes, you. Besides being good-looking, you're useless. Nora must have fallen for your face and is using money to support you." Claire snorted coldly and started spreading rumors.
Nora felt a surge of anger so intense, she could only laugh in disbelief.
Atticus was the son of the Fields family.
A lineage more distinguished than the Smiths themselves.
"Daddy." Samuel, having been scolded by Nora, called out to Michael pitifully.
Michael ignored Evelyn and James. When they were attacking Atticus, he just watched coldly. Those people from the Fields family weren't good people either, always trying to poach his people. Let them fight among themselves.
Without hesitation, Michael scooped up Samuel, ruffling his hair with gentle affection. Samuel, still wounded by Nora’s scolding, clung to his father.
Ever since discovering Samuel was his son, Michael was overwhelmed by guilt and a desire to make up for lost years.
He felt helpless, unsure how to compensate for the five years of fatherhood Samuel had missed.
"Mr. Smith, don't be fooled by Nora. The money she scammed must have all been used to support this man. Look at this man covered head to toe in fakes - he's clearly vain. Who knows how much money was spent on him." Claire continued to slander Nora.
Michael looked Atticus up and down. Dressed so flashily, like a peacock showing off its feathers, coming to seduce his wife?
"Atticus, I’m not sure how patient you are, but I wouldn’t put up with this nonsense," Michael said coolly, stepping back to let Atticus handle the confrontation.
He needed to save his energy to play games with his son.
Atticus was never one to tolerate provocation, and right now, he needed an outlet for his frustration.
Pointing at himself, then at Nora, Atticus said, "You're saying she's keeping me?"
Nora, noticing Atticus’s growing agitation, tried to soothe him.
"Don’t worry. If I don’t settle this today, I’m not Atticus," he declared, signaling Nora to stay out of It.
Nora nodded, gathered Milo in her arms, and joined Michael in the shade, deciding to let Atticus handle matters.
The family of four, plus Joseph, all sat on small stools, seriously watching Atticus argue with these people.
"Curious, Nora leaned toward Michael and whispered, "Is the Fields family from Silverlight City? Atticus is so riled up, his accent’s coming out.
"Yes, the Fields family is from Silverlight City. His grandfather's generation went into business and moved to Novaria. They were among the first billionaires." Michael introduced the Fields family.
He had to admit, the Fields family was truly a great family and an absolute elite household.
At its peak, the Fields family was unmatched by any family in Emerald City.
Despite some decline over generations, the Fields family remained unrivaled with Juliet and Daryl at the helm.
Reassured, Nora relaxed and turned her attention back to the unfolding drama.
The onlookers were also shocked. What was Michael's relationship with Nora?
Why did he come in and immediately pick up her son, then sit with her? They looked like a perfect match - undeniably pleasing to the eye.
"Nora, a bit flustered, asked, "Mr. Smith, do you have time for this? I’m sorry, Samuel just..."
If Dad didn’t show up, Mom would have been taken by Milo’s dad!" Samuel complained, while Milo chimed in, "My dad likes Mom, too."
"Mom is my dad's." Samuel hugged Michael's neck tightly.
Michael raised an eyebrow. His own son was the best.
"If I hadn't come, who were you planning to bring to parent's day?" Michael narrowed his eyes, his aura quite dangerous.
Nora fumbled for words, "I—I was just going to bring Samuel and watch, that’s all."
Michael spoke ominously, "You think I'm embarrassing?"
Nora looked at Michael in panic. What should she say?
"Is it embarrassing for me to come with you to do parent's day activities for Samuel?" Michael snorted.
Pretty proud of himself.
Hastily, Nora explained, "No, it’s just that most parents here are wealthy or influential. They’re all watching us. I didn’t want to trouble you."
Nora looked around. Those parents were all watching her and Michael.
Probably looking for a chance to come over and chat with Michael.
After all, this so-called elite school's parent's day was also the school's way of giving parents a chance to network. Most were using their children as an excuse to expand their connections and business opportunities.
Michael was a leading figure in Emerald City's business circle. Those people definitely all wanted to know him.
"Samuel, Mom doesn't want to take responsibility for me." Michael rubbed Samuel's chubby little belly.
He hadn't been raising him for nothing these past few days - he'd gained weight.
"Mom, that's not right." Samuel seriously lectured Nora. "Uncle Jasper said if you kiss someone, you have to take responsibility. You kissed Dad."
Nora's ears turned red. "Don't talk nonsense. I didn't."
"That day Dad fell asleep on the sofa, and I saw you secretly kiss him." Samuel said very seriously.
Nora's face turned even redder. That day when Nolan told Michael to get out of the Smith Group, Michael seemed to be in a bad mood, so he drank.
When Nora came out of the shower, Michael was asleep on the sofa.
She just wanted to help him up, but Michael pulled her into his arms and they happened to kiss.
Samuel had actually seen it.
Michael grinned mischievously. "So, you kissed me in secret, and now you won’t take responsibility?"
While they were flirting here, Atticus was fighting alone over there.
Atticus shot Michael a resentful glare. While he was left to argue, Michael was busy charming Nora. Such cunning.
This guy was too cunning.
