Chapter 235
Chapter 235
"Daddy!" Milo happily rushed over and threw himself into Atticus's arms.
Atticus picked up Milo and waved at Nora. "We meet again. Lovely meeting you."
Nora awkwardly greeted Atticus and nodded.
Milo looked at Nora happily. "Mommy, my daddy's here. You and daddy can both come to parents' day."
Nora felt even more awkward.
"No way!" Samuel puffed up his cheeks and stood protectively in front of Nora, watching Atticus warily. "Mommy is my daddy's."
Atticus smiled and walked over to crouch in front of Samuel. "I can be your daddy too."
Nora nearly choked. Do people who grew up abroad always speak so directly?
"I don't want you. I have a daddy." Samuel huffed, still protectively guarding Nora, afraid she'd be taken away by Atticus.
"Let go of me!" The woman who had provoked Nora was still struggling, full of anger. "Do you know who I am? Don't touch me!"
The security guards didn't dare push too hard and had to let her go.
The woman's hair was messy. She looked at Nora in embarrassment—clearly Nora had made her lose all face as a socialite today. "Nora, so this is your little bastard's father? What is he supposed to be? Let's see if he can protect you today!" To save face, the woman started calling for backup.
"Claire Murphy, stop being so unreasonable. Quit while you're ahead." Nora frowned, warning her.
For the sake of being high school classmates, Nora was already giving her an out.
Claire snorted coldly, looking Atticus up and down.
She was an Emerald City socialite and part of Evelyn and Pearl's circle. She'd seen all kinds of wealthy heirs in the country. She was naturally familiar with top-tier wealthy family members like Michael Walter, but someone like Atticus, whom she'd never seen before and didn't recognize at all—Claire didn't take him seriously at all.
Even though Atticus was wearing designer brands, she thought he was wearing fakes. "Head to toe in knockoffs. You two really are a perfect match—cheaters together."
Atticus looked down at himself. He thought he had dressed pretty low-key today.
"That's so kind of you." Atticus said excitedly. "Do we really look like a couple?"
Samuel looked at Atticus with the kind of look you'd give someone with special needs, then glanced at Milo. "Your daddy seems kind of dumb."
Milo raised his hand to reject Samuel's opinion. "My daddy is not dumb."
Joseph, sticking close behind Samuel, nodded along. "Dumb."
Meanwhile, Nora was at a loss too, not sure how to scold Claire anymore.
The other person was insulting them, but Atticus thought she was complimenting him?
"That necklace around your neck is this year's spring collection, a custom design by LD for couples, worth nearly three million dollars per piece. In the entire country, only one person has it right now—James bought it for Evelyn." Claire sneered, suddenly feeling confident. "Before you wear fakes, you should at least check the market."
Atticus looked at the decorative pendant around his neck. "You've got a good eye."
"And that streetwear you're wearing—the official website price is over a hundred thousand dollars, and those shoes alone are over two hundred thousand." Claire looked down at Atticus. "This brand is by Novaria designer, Atticus from the Fields family's own brand. It's not something you can buy just because you have money."
Atticus raised an eyebrow. She really knew quite a bit.
This was indeed something he designed for himself to wear.
"What a perfect couple—one pretending to be a wealthy family's daughter, the other covered in fakes." Claire thought she'd regained face and spoke with a cold laugh.
Before long, her backup arrived too.
Nora really hadn't expected the people who came would be Evelyn James and that whole group of friends.
"Nora, just wait. Let's see how I deal with you." Seeing her people arrive, Claire instantly felt emboldened.
With so many of them, how could they be afraid of just one Nora?
"You're all grown up and still calling people for a group fight?" Atticus really didn't understand how things worked in the country nowadays. He looked at Nora in confusion. "Are we going to fight?"
"Can you even fight?" Nora covered her forehead, teasing. She really thought rich kids were a bit...
"Of course, no problem." Nora was just being sarcastic, but Atticus thought she was concerned about whether he could win the fight.
He was surprised that at parents' day in the country, the so-called competition was actually fighting? As expected of a warrior nation. The country was still better—everyone knew martial arts.
"Look, this guy is Nora's lover. He's finally shown his face." Claire huffed, pointing at Atticus and calling him a lover.
James normally wouldn't get involved in such boring matters, but when Claire said Nora brought her lover to the little bastard's parents' day, he wanted to come see which man besides Walter was involved with her.
"Nora, who is he?"
James frowned and asked.
"None of your business." Nora lowered her head, saying what she was thinking in the gentlest voice.
James thought he'd heard wrong. Was Nora cursing at him?
"Nora, who are you cursing at?" Evelyn's face was as pale as always. She stepped forward to question her.
"You want to be cursed at too?" Nora asked gently. "Then I'll include you—none of your business. Look at you, you can barely stand. Instead of staying in the hospital to recover, stay away from us. I'm afraid you'll try to scam us."
Nora pulled Atticus back, afraid Evelyn might faint and blame her again.
Atticus happily stood protectively in front of Nora. "It's okay, I'm not afraid."
Nora sighed. "Stay away from her. She'll scam you."
"I have money." Atticus said he wasn't afraid of being scammed.
"She doesn't scam for money. She scams for your kidney." Nora muttered quietly.
Atticus was shocked. "Organ trafficking is illegal. I'm calling the police."
"Nora!" Evelyn's face turned even paler with anger. "I see you've been doing well lately. You really should donate your kidney to me now. James, she owes me this!"
James frowned, looking Nora up and down. After not seeing her for a few days, Nora did indeed look much better.
"Since you have so much energy now, you should fulfill your promise and donate your kidney." James told Nora to donate. "Don't forget what you owe the Adams family."
"I can donate a kidney, but what about what the Adams family owes me?" Nora asked James seriously.
James was stunned. "What nonsense are you talking? What does the Adams family owe you!"
"Aiden and Evelyn know in their hearts." Nora looked at Evelyn and spoke again. "And what about you all falsely accusing me of extortion, and leading the bullying and hurting me—doesn't that count?"
Evelyn felt a bit guilty, after all, the fact that Nora was raped by a man was something she'd asked Aiden to arrange.
"Or are you saying that in your eyes, only Evelyn's suffering counts as harm, and mine doesn’t?” Nora questioned James.
James looked at Nora in surprise—surprised that she now had the courage to fight back.
This was completely different from when Nora had just gotten out of prison.
"So you're saying you want to go back on your word now?" James asked angrily. "You occupied Evelyn's wealthy life for twenty-one years. You enjoyed the position of the Adams family's daughter for twenty-one years! You're really selfish."
"You are not selfish? Then you donate. You're her fiancé. You love her so much, why don't you donate?" Nora clenched her fists looking at James, finding him disgusting.
"Nora! I was going to give you a bit more time to recover, but now I see there's no need for that. You'd better go to the hospital for tests right now and agree to donate your kidney!" James said threateningly.
"Do you know why no one donates a brain in organ donation? Because a brain is a precious thing, not everyone has one, like you." At the entrance, Michael's voice was low. His face was dark, looking like he had come in anger.
