Chapter 35 Me Vs. Lucy Part 3
Chapter 35 Me Vs. Lucy Part 3
"After what happened at the hospital, and even Sarah Olsen's incident, I couldn't possibly do something like that. Just like you always say, right? Why are you hesitating now?" Lucy asked emotionally, fearing she would lose Andrew's trust.
"But the evidence is so strong. I'm just holding back and trying to trust you. Because you are my childhood friend, I feel like I know you very well, and as far as I know, you are a good person. That's why I protected you, telling everyone that I knew you best. But the more days go by, the more doubtful I become." Andrew expressed his disappointment to Lucy. It seems Andrew was also investigating secretly, and the evidence is emerging logically. Now Andrew looks like he can't help Lucy anymore.
"If you still want to stay and work with me. If you still want me to protect you from Sarah Olsen's lawsuit. Please admit your mistake to Matilda just now. Tell the truth: did you attack her first or not?" Andrew just wanted recognition, but it was difficult for Lucy to admit her own crimes. It was as if she understood that if she confessed, her reputation in front of Andrew would be further tarnished, and that meant she would never be chosen.
After a moment, Lucy finally just shook her head in response. She didn't want to admit her mistake, even though when she shook her head hesitantly, anyone could tell Lucy was lying.
"I'm not really." Lucy even backed away in fear until her back touched the wall of my room.
"I thought Andrew was smart enough to read someone's body language. Even though Lucy didn't answer, you should have known the answer. And if there's anything else you need to discuss, feel free to talk outside. I want to rest." I climbed onto my bed, pulled the blanket over me, and lay down on the mattress.
"Admit your mistake and apologize to Matilda. If Matilda is willing to forgive you, then I will forgive you; if she doesn't forgive you, then you will be kicked out of here." I could still hear Andrew's voice; it was their final conversation before the sound of Andrew's shoes faded away from my room.
I didn't care about their words; I decided to rest earlier because the person I was waiting for never came. Actually, I was quite lucky earlier because I accepted Collin's gift of the book and studied it, so when Lucy came, I was already in a state ready to fight. But now it feels truly exhausting, and I can't bear to watch debates or wait for someone.
As morning approached, it turned out Anthony really didn't come. I hope he's okay with his family in the village and nothing happened there. Nevertheless, I will still feel worried.
This morning, no maid came to knock on the door, perhaps because I woke up much earlier. Without waiting for the maids to come, I rushed to the bathroom to clean myself. And after getting ready until everything was finished, I was ready to go downstairs, but when I opened my bedroom door, I saw Lucy sitting cross-legged, still wearing the clothes she wore yesterday.
"Mrs. Matilda, please forgive me." Lucy's voice trembled; perhaps she was already exhausted.
"Are you still insisting on staying by his side?" My question made her look up at me.
"I love Andrew; I can't leave him." That's right, Lucy is only doing this because she still wants to be by Andrew's side.
"How long have you been here?" I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Since last night, and I won't leave or eat until I get an apology from you." I clicked my tongue while shaking my head.
"You committed a crime because of a man, and you have the audacity to apologize for a man too?" I asked incredulously. But this time Lucy didn't speak; she just remained silent.
"If I forgive you, will you attack me again next time?"
"That depends on how annoying you are." Lucy's words made me shake my head.
"You're truly insane. You should be locked up in Hiraeth and be Michael's patient." Lucy squinted her eyes when I said that.
"Why? You don't accept it? You clearly need treatment. Damn the apologies; there's no going back after saying sorry," I said.
"Just give your forgiveness. For me, the most important thing is to stay by Andrew's side."
"But that will hurt me. If I don't forgive you, you'll be kicked out, and that's better. It won't threaten my life anymore." This time, because her words didn't soften me, Lucy prostrated herself at my feet.
"Please forgive me," she whispered.
"It's so sad; don't you have a place to live, so you have to stick with Andrew?"
"I don't care what you say; please forgive me." And the problem is, this apology is completely insincere and could potentially be repeated. What if I'm unlucky one day and end up dying at her hands?
"Let's do it this way." I squatted in front of Lucy, our gazes now level.
"It doesn't feel fair that I'm the only one receiving forgiveness. What if you apologize to Sarah Olsen too? If she forgives you, then I will forgive you too," I said with a smile.
"No, the media will know I'm really guilty. If I am proven guilty, then Andrew's reputation will be tarnished." Lucy shook her head repeatedly.
"You knew from the beginning that your status was Andrew's secretary, and putting yourself next to Andrew means you're carrying Andrew's good name everyplace. But you've already ruined it by indulging your ego, even though you know Andrew loves me very much. Now Andrew's image is also threatened by you. If Andrew's career falls, it will be because of you."
I got up and stood back up while Lucy was still kneeling at my feet with her pleading face. The rumbling of her stomach could be heard; it seemed she was truly starving.
"Yes, if that's the case, you just have to forgive me. If I'm not by Andrew's side, and I stop being his secretary, then everyone will be suspicious," Lucy said.
"But that's not my concern. I have no interest in protecting anyone's reputation but my own. I've already wanted to divorce Andrew, and that's absolute. Now it's your choice; if you apologize to Sarah Olsen, all your problems and Andrew's with Sarah Olsen will be resolved. And that won't hurt." I explained, and Lucy seemed to weigh it carefully with concern.
"If you don't want to, then fine. Forget all the apologies." I said as I strolled away toward the dining room.
Lucy followed me from behind, limping because she had been kneeling all night, and she struggled to keep up with my pace.
"Matilda! I'm going to get Sarah Olsen's forgiveness! Just look!" And look how fiercely that woman is defending herself so she can stay with Andrew.
Lucy's eyes were full of determination; now she could walk quickly and pass me. She went outside; it seemed she was really going to meet Sarah Olsen.
