CHAPTER 40
In the royal infirmary, Lena was laid on the bunk and was receiving treatment. Nurses and Doctors surrounded her while Don sat on the bed at the side watching as they were trying to restore her.
The energy he had consumed kept her breathing until they reached the hospital, but it seemed it had been consumed, and she was going to pass on if time wasn't taken. Her life lies in the hands of the doctors since his wolf is still recuperating from the energy used to restore her.
He had lost lots of blood as well, but that wasn't an issue to him as it was.
"Get the defibrillator! Fast!!!" the doctor yelled, and the nurses ran helter-skelter to get it done.
Don swallowed his saliva, staring at Lena's lifeless body. The beeping sound of the monitor could tell that she was in a terrible condition and might give up soon, so he prayed persistently to the moon goddess to forgive his mistakes and give Lena a second chance.
The doctor, once given the defibrillator, began shocking her heart.
"Increase it!!" he ordered and shocked her again. "Again!!"
Alpha Dante sat up, his gaze fixed on the monitor.
"Again!!!"
His heartbeat increased at that moment. He wouldn't want to hear what would make him think of committing suicide.
"This is the highest jolt-"
Alpha walked to the bed. He got to his knees and held her palm. He had sobbed a lot and had no tears left again.
"Doctor, it's coming up. Her heart rate and pulse." a nurse announced, and they all felt relieved once again.
The senior doctor arranged the other things and had her infused before they left the ward.
Alpha looked at Lena's face. "You must wake up soon. If you die, I will die, too." he sniffed, rubbing his thumb on her palm. "If we both die, who will take care of our child?" he released a heavy breath he had held for a long time and rested his head on the bed.
Minutes turned to hours. He didn't leave her side. He had decided to be with her until she woke up, and she meant it. He blamed himself for everything that happened-for not holding her back so she won't leave.
After some time, he dozed off, kneeling beside her.
He felt a touch on his shoulder and slowly opened his eyes, hoping that it was a daydream, but was stunned to see Lena staring at him, unable to say a word.
His eyes flew wide. He didn't anticipate her to be awake so quickly. He grabbed her hands, not sure whether to be happy or not…. but the tears he had thought weren't left anymore streamed down his cheeks.
She slowly took back her palm and wiped off his tears. "Alpha!!!"
He finally found his words, kissing her palms continuously. "Thank you for pulling through….." he broke into a heavy tear. "Lena!!!"
"Stop already!! I should be the one to thank you….."
He sniffed and looked at her. "I caused you stress. You even bleed because you didn't take much rest after childbirth. The doctor blamed me for the first time….."
She scoffed, patting his shoulder gently. "Now that I'm here again, will you stop crying?"
He sighed heavily. For the first time, he wept like a child. After the death of his Luna, he didn't believe he would be head over heels for a lady again. If he was told in the dream that he would be in love with a woman who was supposed to be his enemy-he wouldn't believe it.
She caressed his hair with her palm, staring at his face.
"Lena!!" he sniffed and laid his head on her belly slightly, making sure that he didn't let his weight cause her pain. "Please be my Luna. I can't stand it again. I won't survive without you. Please!!"
She stared at him for some time and shook her head. "We are opposites and shouldn't be together. I can be the child's nanny, but not your Luna." she averted her gaze to the ceiling. "Do you think your officials will accept that I become your Luna?"
He hissed. "Who cares what they say? My happiness matters a lot more than what they have in mind."
"It won't work. I have a murder record and am supposed to have no rank in the Pack." Lena reminded him.
He lifted his head. "Lena, I don't mind all those…."
"I killed your daughter. Have you forgotten already? My father murdered your wife, so I have no place in this pack. What do you think the pack members will say when they see me as Luna?" she shook her head persistently. "It won't work out. I can just go away after all these ends, or I'll become the child's nanny if you won't let me leave ...."
"Should you be mentioning about leaving again?" he snapped at her, and she didn't even spare him a glance. "Lena, I swear not to let you leave my sight again. If we have to die together-so be it."
She gulped softly. "Alpha…."
"Stop talking! I will be talking alone from here. Whatever decision I take is what will be. I am the Supreme Alpha and the Don, and so I have every right to declare that children will not have to bear the crosses of their parents again….."
She shook her head. "This is a different case here. I committed murder too, not just my father. I won't let some other people suffer for my crimes when I'm alive….. the punishment for taking action over the sins of my father is by living a neutral life without having a title in this pack. Even if it leads to being demoted as an Omega, I will accept it."
Alpha Dante didn't expect all that from her. Surely, she was supposed to be punished according to the law, but after knowing the truth behind everything, he changed his mind.
"What about forging a secret letter from your father? That letter will be a claim to prove your innocence…." he suggested, but she shook her head. "Are you scared they will find out that it isn't your father's handwriting? Remember, what matters is his seal….."
She sighed and gulped, licking her lips. "Let's take a rest for now….."
He winked, his eyes narrowed. "Was it after you escaped you found out Tyrion was alive?"
She nodded, peeling her nails. "What do you want to do now?" she watched as he stood up. "Don't tell me you're going after him alone?"
