CHAPTER 37
Alfred tapped Lena. He pulled her backwards, and they went back into the inner room. "This won't work! It's risky!!" he released a hot breath. "Look, let's just distract them. They are too huge to be fought. We will end up dead as they wish if we make any mistake…"
Lena rolled her eyes. She felt so baffled that her body seemed to be on fire. Even though she wishes to die instead of Alfred, a part of her wants her to live for her son. She believes that someday, she will meet with her son and will even be welcomed back by the Don again.
She sighed deeply and looked at Alfred. "So, how do you think we will distract them?"
"Let's wait till they fall deep asleep. They can't cheat nature. They will certainly doze off at a time." he suggested, and she nodded. "Do you think we will be able to get their boss' medicine?"
Lena shook her head. She had already thought about it several times and found no solution to that. "I believe he takes the treatment at the hospital, so whatever medicine he's on might not be found around this building…." she glanced at Alfred. "Don't you think it will take lots of our time too? We can escape with the time we are supposed to search and find the drug….."
He nodded in agreement. She was actually making sense. They would waste a lot of time searching for the drug when they were supposed to leave.
"But now, how do we distract them? Can't we escape through this window? Those men are too huge….." she frowned. "If they aren't with weapons, it would be considerable. How do I do it when they are armed?"
Alfred held her palm. "I will see if I can loosen this window. Jumping off through it would be better…"
She scoffed and looked at the window. It was a small one, but once loosened, it would contain them so long as they wouldn't rush off.
At that moment, Alfred began loosening the window while Lena gave a helping hand where needed. They continued until they finally succeeded when it was so dark outside.
He turned to her. "You will leave first. I will help you climb…."
She furrowed her brows and nodded. "I wonder if I can make it if I transform? It's been just two weeks since I conceived. I don't know if my wolf can do it. I would just transform and grab you, and then we escape…." she panted and glanced at Alfred, who stared at her.
He smiled. "You don't have to overstress yourself. We will do it and be safe, okay?"
She nodded and gripped the window, and then Alfred helped her until she jumped off. She darted her eyes around to be sure no one was around the corner until Alfred came down as well.
"Where is this?" he asked, holding her.
She shook her head. "I'm not sure, but it's part of the surroundings…" she breathed out. "If you f*cking want to meet your mate again, why not show the way?" she said to her wolf, scowling.
A growl. Alfred was stunned by the response of his wolf as well.
'Left-' her wolf directed. 'You will climb over a fence as well, but there are guards there, and that's the safest route to take. The others are filled up with armed men.'
Lena nodded. "It's fine! Let's take our left. I'll lead the way…" She grabbed him by the hand, and they hastened their steps, making sure it was silent so they wouldn't be noticed.
They didn't stop until they reached the gate her wolf had mentioned, and then they halted. She looked at the fence intently and then at Alfred. "Opening it will be a hassle as I don't have supernatural powers….."
He scoffed, rubbing his thumb on her palm.
"We will jump over through the fence…" she added, and they walked towards it instantly.
As they reached, Alfred bent low, offering his back, and she climbed through it. Once Lena jumped off, he began climbing to meet with her.
"Alfred!! Be fast…." she whispered, seeing his face.
Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot resounded in the area, stunning them.
"Jump!!" Lena screamed, and he did instantly.
They took to their heels, not sure where exactly they were headed to.
The sound of the gate startled them, and they fell to the ground.
Lena looked back. There were lots of them out through the gate and in search of them already. "But we made sure not to cause a fuss. How did they find out already?" she glanced at Alfred. "Let's run so fast, or they will meet up with us. They are many…."
He hurried to his feet, and they continued running, leaving behind their footwear.
"Can you summon your wolf to take over you? That way, we will be able to escape freely. We can't run so fast with just our human ability….." Lena said quietly to Alfred.
He shook his head. He had just regained his wolf and didn't know how it worked. If he knew, he would be the first person to mention it.
"I'll transform and take you with me. Don't be scared-" As she let go of his hand, ready to transform into her wolf form even if it would consume lots of her strength, a bullet was released.
"Again! Fire!!"
Just as she turned to grab Alfred, he lost his balance and fell to the floor.
"Alfred! What is it?" she squatted.
He shook his head. "This isn't just any bullet. It's silver!"
She grabbed him by herself. "No! If we leave this place, I will heal you. You have to be strong…" She pulled him, but he resisted. "Stand and come along with me. They released a bullet and didn't see us."
He dragged his hand away from her. "I will waste your time. You have to keep running, Lena. That baby is waiting for you…."
She fell to her knees. "Please, we have to leave together. Okay, I will transform, and you get on my back quickly, okay?"
He resisted.
At that moment, footsteps were fast approaching.
"Alfred, we have to leave before they find us." she pleaded, trying to drag him along, but he resisted.
He swallowed hard. "It was nice meeting my family again, but that doesn't mean we will have to die together. Just go! You have to take care of your child."
A hooking pain struck her belly. She grabbed her lower abdomen, wincing silently in pain.
The men are almost close. If they don't leave, that would be their end.
"Lena, you're bleeding…." Alfred pointed at her thigh. "Don't transform. Just keep running. I will distract them and buy time for you, okay?"
Tears dropped from her cheek. She knows so well that she won't last long if she keeps bleeding and keeps running too.
"Lena, please-" Alfred drew her attention. "You have to go. Keep going. I will buy time for you…" he pushed her.
Seeing that no amount of pressure would make Alfred leave with her, she stood and hastened her steps. A hot ball of tears streamed down her cheeks.
She glanced at her thighs and shook her head. The bleeding was so much.
