Chapter 149 – A Time to Reflect
Cassidy smiled as she watched her best friend walk down the aisle for her wedding ceremony. Natalie asked Cassidy if it would be alright if they had the ceremony in the garden in her backyard. She couldn’t be happier to host such a special event for her long-time friend, someone Cassidy considered family since she had no one else left in her life. Everyone that she had loved dearly had passed, and the only person she had left was Natalie.
Cassidy smirked at herself for a moment when she thought about the black wolf she had befriended three months earlier. Sure, she enjoyed his company and was always happy when he came to visit her, which, to her surprise, was almost every day.
As Natalie took each step forward, making her way to the front, it gave Cassidy time to reflect on these last three months since she had lost her memory. She decided to quit her job as a junior editor. Too much time had passed, and she felt it would be a struggle for her to get back on track. There was also something chilling about that place that gave her a feeling that she shouldn’t go back. Cassidy decided to make the cabin her permanent residence. It took her a little while to adjust to the homely place, but in time, it was somewhere she felt safe and finally at home.
Cassidy turned to look at the groom and giggled.
Gavin was smiling from ear to ear as he watched his beautiful, redheaded bride walk toward him. He sucked in a breath as his heart filled with joy, watching his dream come true. He never thought this day would come, not knowing if he would ever find love again. But the moon goddess had other plans for him and blessed him with this sassy woman who was walking toward him.
Gavin looked over his left shoulder to two of his best friends. He was happy to have them next to him as he took this next big step and chapter in his life. Gavin smirked as he glanced at Raymond, who was busy keeping his eye on this feisty blonde who was a co-worker of Natalie’s and also his best friend’s assistant. He had met with the girl a time or two when he would visit Jacob in the city. Gavin had a feeling that something was going on between the two, but he wasn’t going to put his nose anywhere it didn’t belong. He knew that when Raymond was ready, he would tell him what was going on, but in the meantime, he would enjoy this new stage in his life with his soon-to-be wife by his side.
Once Natalie made it to the front, she passed her bouquet over for Cassidy to hold as she placed both of her hands in Gavin’s as the ceremony began.
Cassidy felt a tingle shift through her leg. Her heart picked up a beat as her stomach started to flutter. Her eyes widened as her cheeks began to burn. Why was this all happening during her friend’s ceremony? Cassidy sicked in a deep breath as she pushed down the heat she was feeling all over her body. She looked around to see what would be causing her to feel this way but wasn’t sure exactly what she was looking for.
As the ceremony came to a close, Cassidy’s eyes burned with tears of joy as she watched Nat kiss her husband for the first time as husband and wife. Their friendship and living situation was definitely going to change, and as much as change scared Cassidy, she was ready for this and knew that even though Nat didn’t live with her, she would still always be there for her when she needed her best friend.
Everyone cheered as the newly wedded couple went back up the aisle, and one by one, the crowd followed them to where the reception was being held.
Teddy extended his arm for Cassidy to link her arm through. Cassidy smiled as she took his arm. She tilted her head toward the left when she thought she heard a growl coming from behind her but shook her head and proceeded to walk up the aisle to join everyone else.
Cassidy let out a sigh.
“Are you doing okay?” Teddy leaned in and asked softly.
Cassidy smiled as she nodded her head. “I’m happy for them.”
Teddy could hear a bit of sadness in her tone as she said it and assured her, “Don’t worry, your happily ever after will come all in good time.”
Cassidy nudged him with her shoulder and then shrugged, “Maybe someday.”
She felt another tingle travel through her as she looked again around her. Her eyes widened when she saw a familiar wolf walking around in the shrubs of her garden.
“Excuse me, Teddy, I have to check something.”
Teddy gave her a smirk as he released her arm and gently bowed toward her. “I’ll see you inside,” he told her before giving her a friendly wink.
Cassidy moved toward the direction she saw her black furry friend headed in and decided to follow him through the forest. She picked up her dress before stepping into the dirt and followed the path she assumed her friend had taken.
Cassidy stopped once she reached the familiar creek. The rushing sound of water always soothed her and made her feel good. Cassidy took a step up onto a larger rock to get a better look around her to see which direction her favorite wolf went in. She felt a tingling sensation run through her as she lost her balance and tried to catch herself before falling into the cold current.
“Watch out!” She heard a husky voice yell out from across the way. Before Cassidy could catch herself, a rather tall man leaped across the creek and caught her in his arms. A static sensation trickled through her body as the man pulled her close to him as he made his way to solid ground. Cassidy kept her eyes closed until she knew it was safe to open them.
“That was a close one. Are you okay?” he whispered.
Cassidy sucked in a breath as she listened to the familiar voice. She counted to three before opening her eyes and meeting the man who rescued her. Slowly, she opened her eyes and then widened, and her mouth dropped as memories flooded through her head. Her missing memories came rushing back to her once she gazed into the man’s fierce blue eyes.
Cassidy bit down on her lower lip as she reached up and cupped the side of the man’s face.
“Jacob, it was you that whole time; you saved me.”
Jacob’s heart filled with joy as he smiled lovingly at his mate. “I guess I was just in the right place at the right time,” he told her before pulling her close and covering her mouth with his.
