I hurt, everything hurts. I just want things to go back as they were before we tried my stupid plan. I was so arrogant to think that I could restore a soul because I bring back the lost. Now the first woman that I have felt bound to besides Katie is dead. She's dead because of me!
I know that I must have blacked out again as I did the day that we rescued Elena because I hear a voice say, "Make the most of your regrets; never smother your sorrow, but tend and cherish it till it comes to have a separate and integral interest. To regret deeply is to live afresh. I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done." The voice sighs, "Eva, I left things undone. I let Raven get away and now she hunts my precious gifts. You can't let her succeed. I need you to forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other path, no other way as there is no day but today."
Her tone becomes more uplifting, "You are creation now. Don't let her bring back the darkness that I died to extinguish. I failed, but you won't. Use my gifts to aid you as they once did me. If you do that, then in time all will be reborn, including me,” she said as her voice began to fade.
It can't be but there is only one soul that would have that knowledge besides my mother. The voice talking to me is The White Wolf, “Guinevere? How? How are you speak to me?”
"You possess my soul now and my new body is growing within you. You're right, I am Morgan's mate. But I need you to wake up because your mates are trying to destroy each other. Go, and please hurry,” that was the last thing she said to me.
I don't have time to ponder the new information that I just learned because I hear Sam growl and feel Vincent wince. I rise up and yell, “Enough!” as beams of both light and shadow engulf everyone immobilizing them and everyone in the office.
I put my hand over my stomach and whisper, “Guin, it will be done,” as I walk over to Sam who had partially shifted. I touch his face as I release my hold on him just enough so that he can speak.
I know the effect that we have on each other and I need it to make him relax, “I need you to relax and trust me. Can you?”
Sam sighs but then grins, “Always, Snow White,” but the grin doesn't reach his eyes. There's sadness in his tone and regret too. I know that he blames himself for what happened, but we can fix that.
I unfreeze him as I run my hands up his broad chest and pull him down allowing our lips to ghost one another.
“I love you,” I say as I look into his soul.
Sam kisses between my eyes and then my nose as he says, “I love you too,” Our lips meet in a brief, passionate kiss. I feel his light return as mine seeks to match his. We pull away. I take his hand and put it on my stomach.
“We can do this.”
Sam says, “All of our children will be fine,” as he looks over at Gran's lifeless body, “I just wish that she could be here to see them grow.”
“She will be.”
Sam holds my hands, “No, not as an undead. She wouldn't want that. Eva, please don't.”
I free my hand and reach up to grab a handful of his hair and pull him down to me as I look into his eyes, “She will be as she was just no longer shrouded. Now trust me. I need you!” I feel his wolf reach for me. But now isn't the time to ignite our bond.
Sam nods, “I do,” as he kisses me before he reluctantly pulls away, “But first, I need to do something.” He walks over to a frozen Eric and smacks him on the back of the head, “Don’t you ever say that everything will be fine unless you have seen that it is!” He goes over to Vlad and punches him in the gut, “If you ever gang up on me again, I will encourage my wife to torment you by trapping you in moving cars!”
Next, Sam goes over to Vincent and punches him in the nose, “That's for being an asshole!”
I need to find out everything that happened when I was unconscious, but that must wait. I grab Sam's hand and lead him over to Gran.
I look into Sam’s eyes, “You are the light and I am the dark.” I place his other hand on my stomach, “And Guin is a soul-bringer.”
I link to him and tell him that I will explain but first, he must concentrate on finding Gran's soul that I made into a ball and break it into pieces so that we can disperse them throughout her body. We need to make sure that her soul is spread as evenly as possible.
“Now,” I bellow.
