***Gran’s POV***
I knew going into this that it would be risky. But I didn't anticipate that I would have to die. I know that they will do everything that they can to make sure that I can return to my body. I must be in the In-between. It is similar to what Christians call purgatory. So I am not afraid. This gives me time to think too. Now that mind is clear, even before Morgan confirmed that I had been shrouded, I suspected it. I also suspected something special was meant for Sam because he has always been different and I needed to know if my other grandsons were too. I knew
that the White Wolf gifted my family, but I didn't understand the ramifications until after I died.
As I linger in the void of the In-between, I hear many disembodied voices. I allow myself to drift closer to them. I recognize three of the voices too. I hear them all talk of how the sacrifice, of relinquishing their gifts and lives, was worth it to bring back the lost. That without the lost returning, our world would be pitched into perpetual darkness devoid of any light. That eventually our world and any left in it would be obliviated.
Wow, so that means that all who gathered here gave up not just their lives but their gifts too. Gifts? Are they referring to any abilities that they had in life or a gift like the White Wolf gave my family? I soon find myself surrounded by the voices. The three that sounded familiar gasped at my presence.
"Addie, you shouldn't be here?" the voice of my dead husband said.
"Mom, I love you but you don't belong here," my deceased son replied.
"Momma, I know that you miss us as we do you. But you can't stay. My son, new daughter, and my granddaughter need you," my daughter-in-law told me.
“I love you all so much. I never stopped. It was so hard to bear at times but the boys always showed me the light in my darkest hours.”
"Addie, my sweet Addie, I regret never telling you what I did. I was going to tell you the night we all died," my husband, Xavier, said.
"Mom, we had no choice. It all happened so fast,” my son, Sirius, confessed.
“I never blamed any of you for that night. What I could never understand was how Sam survived without a scratch.”
"Momma, all of my boys are special. My Sammy though was given extra,” my daughter-in-law, Celia, said.
“Extra, what do you mean extra?”
"Addie, the White Wolf gave me a portion of her soul to ensure that our family would always thrive. That gift also made us more difficult to kill as well as gave us much longer life expectancies," Xavier explained.
"The night of the wreck, a tornado came out of nowhere and encircled the car. It lifted it into the air. We were scared, but knew that our wolves would heal us as they had before," Celia remarked.
Sirius adds, "But this was no freak storm or normal accident. This was a tornado conjured by witches. Witches who knew that we weren't easy to kill too. They used some strange amulet and it glowed like a star. We felt our souls being ripped from our bodies. It hurt unlike anything we had ever experienced.”
"We gave the part of our soul that was linked to the White Wolf to Sam. They couldn't take his soul that night because of our sacrifice. That is why Sam is unlike his brothers because he has so much of that beautiful soul who sacrificed all so that we could live. The majority of her soul that lived in Sam is why the witches won't ever be able to kill him because it led him to Eva. Eva has made our grandson a god," Xavier said.
"This happened because Eva being a daughter of creation carries a huge portion of all of our souls, it is why she is hurting right now. She thinks she killed you. You must go back, but be sure to tell her that she's right about my granddaughter, your great-granddaughter,” Celia said.
"Mom go, we will all be reunited in time. We love you!" and the voice of my son was the last voice that I heard.
I am not sure how long I remained in the dark silence of the void as I lingered in the In-between, but it did allow me time to think even more after being reunited with my dearly departed family. All of our souls are connected because we are bound. Love only pure love does that. Because of love, The White Wolf will be reborn. Sam is the light and Eva is the dark. Together they create the perfect balance which our world needs to survive.
Sam yells desperately, “Eva! Eva, please wake up!” My heart crumbles as I hear Sam's voice break through the deafening silence. Eva? What happened to my granddaughter? Why does he sound so distraught?
Vincent hisses, “Morgan, you said that this would work! Now Gran is dead and my love won't wake up!”
I am not dead. I am here and I just need help getting back. Eva, please hear me. I am alive. I love you and I will find a way back.
Vlad snarls, “Eric, you saw no harm coming! You are a fucking liar!”
Morgan commands, “Boys, no!”
Gabriel sighs with desperation evident in his tone, “I can't hold them all back much longer. It took most of what I had to free Adele's soul.”
I hear screams as well as loud bangs. Items crash and break too. It sounds like a tornado destroying my office. I have to find a way back and soon before more than just my office goes up in flames.
