Chapter 73 Sudden Appearance
'Didn't they say the female assassin only shows up in the morning? It's already so late; she shouldn't be out now,' I thought to myself. But then, the sharp click of high heels behind me shattered my thoughts.
'Oh no, she's really here,' I panicked internally.
"Please don't kill me," I blurted out, covering my head and dropping to one knee instinctively.
The person behind me stopped, just standing there without saying a word.
'What does this mean? Is she going to kill me or not? I wondered.'
I glanced up, but all I saw was darkness.
Suddenly, I remembered the gruesome fate Willie had described for her victims.
My face went pale. "What are you trying to do?" I asked, my voice trembling.
She seemed amused by my fear.
She slowly approached, pressing against my back. "You're interesting. Everyone else who sees me runs away, but you're the only one bold enough to stay. You're more interesting than I thought. It seems you're not afraid at all," she said, her cold voice echoing in my ear.
Unlike a typical murderer, she sounded calm and composed.
I swallowed hard. "Even if I wanted to run, I couldn't," I said seriously.
Willie had mentioned that her victims were mostly young women.
'I'm a young girl; she wouldn't harm me, right? Mia had Eric save me; I can't just die here,' I thought.
"You're interesting. Turn around and let me see," she said, her hand resting on my shoulder, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
I didn't dare resist and forced myself to meet her gaze.
The moment I saw her eyes, I froze.
"What a beautiful face. Do you have a boyfriend? Do you love him? Is he the only one in your heart?" she asked, grabbing my hand and gently brushing it across her own face.
'What's going on? We're supposed to be an assassin and a victim; is it appropriate?' I thought.
I struggled internally but didn't dare say a word.
She suddenly drew closer, her gaze intense. "You're so beautiful, you must have a man, right? You must have plenty of suitors, don't you? Tell me," she insisted, her voice escalating and jolting me back to reality.
I bit my lip and said softly, "Why are you targeting me? You clearly have so many other prey."
She hooked her arm around my waist, laughing even more. "You know very well that many men are working hard for you. They want to be your companion. With such good conditions, you shouldn't let them become your burden."
I looked at her strangely. "So, all the girls you killed were because they had many men around them?"
She snorted. "Of course, my prey consists of the most beautiful and youngest women in the world."
She said it so matter-of-factly, but it sent chills down my spine.
Due to her whim, innocent people paid with their lives. I couldn't agree with it, nor could I tolerate it. What wrong had those innocent girls, including myself, done? We did nothing wrong.
"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I'll give you a chance to say your last words," she said, watching my terrified eyes with great interest.
As she finished speaking, I finally saw the almost enchanting face beneath the mask.
She stood in the dim light, her perfect figure partially revealed, her black tight dress making her look even more mysterious. But those crimson lips? They made me uneasy.
It was crazy—such a beautiful woman, yet she chose to be a psychotic killer.
Seeing me stare, she whistled with a smile.
The next second, a large wolf-like creature appeared from the shadows.
It wasn't huge, but it bared its teeth at me angrily when it stopped in front of me.
She gently petted its head, and the wolf lowered its head silently.
"You'll become its food. Don't worry, it won't be painful," she said to me.
The wolf wagged its tongue excitedly, saliva dripping as it fixed its eyes on me.
That gaze was terrifying. I swallowed hard and said softly, "You can't kill me."
As prey, my struggle was the scene she most looked forward to.
I had to buy time. Eric must be able to sense my situation; I was waiting.
As long as she was distracted by my attitude, her actions would be slower, increasing the chance of Eric coming to save me.
Even if he couldn't make it in time, maybe I could fight her and prevent her from leaving.
She was clearly amused by my words.
She slowly raised her hand and took out a piece of meat from her pocket, throwing it on the ground.
The wolf whimpered and lowered its head to eat.
She looked at me indifferently. "Give me a reason, and I might consider it."
Finally, I could make her think a little.
Seeing her calm and indifferent demeanor, I grew more composed. "I'm young and beautiful, a university student with many male admirers. If you harm me, you will undoubtedly be hunt down," I stated firmly.
Hearing my words, she smiled indifferently. "Your idea is good, but it doesn't move me. If I can kill you, I can kill them too."
By this time, the wolf had finished eating and was eyeing me hungrily.
I gritted my teeth and said, suppressing my fear, "You're indeed very powerful alone, but my men are all very strong. If they all come at you, you won't stand a chance."
She paused for a few seconds.
She leaned in and scrutinized me carefully. "How many?"
I hesitated and silently counted.
Including those I had recently met and my schoolmates, there were at least seven who were into me.
So I steeled myself and held up seven fingers.
She squinted, looked at my fingers, and laughed.
"Why are you laughing? Don't you believe me?" Her laughter scared me, but I could only try to bolster my courage.
She petted the wolf, laughing even harder. "Those women before weren't as beautiful as you, but they weren't bad either. Yet they were all obsessed with love, giving everything to men, ending up deceived, losing everything they had. They thought being faithful was good, but they still died."
She then grabbed the wolf's ear, making it growl in pain. "I hate men the most, and I hate women who give everything for men even more. They're all fools! Men deserve to die, and so do they."
She rubbed her eyes and stopped walking. "You're different from them. I can spare you. But I want you to join my organization."
