Chapter 74 So It Was You
I stood there, totally stunned, staring at the person in front of me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
She wasn't joking around. But joining her? No way. Still, if I said no, she'd probably come at me.
I bit my lip, watching her closely.
"Really? Do you think we should mess with guys just 'cause they're all jerks? Maybe we should teach them a lesson." I tried to change the subject.
She seemed interested.
To keep her from getting suspicious, I brought up Amelia. "I knew this girl from school. She's really pretty, but she's always fixated on one guy, a total hopeless romantic. Maybe she should be our next target." I blinked, trying to appear sincere.
The assassin didn't argue; she just waited for me to go on.
To keep her hooked, I reluctantly spilled some info about Amelia.
I figured, with so many people at college, she wouldn't actually do anything there, right?
"Three days from now, we'll do it together. If you don't show, you know what'll happen." She handed me a contact card.
The card smelled nice, but I wasn't in the mood to appreciate it.
She pointed at the little wolf. "Its nose is super sharp. No matter where you go, it'll find you. If you lie to me, you're done for."
The little wolf seemed to understand and bared its teeth at me.
I definitely didn't want to get caught.
"Don't worry. I'll be there," I said, raising my hand like I was swearing. She ripped a piece of my clothing and tied it to the wolf's paw.
Suddenly, the wolf calmed down. It didn't look as fierce anymore.
"The little wolf is so cute. Looks like it agrees we should be partners," I said, trying to sound serious.
The assassin glanced at the wolf and went on, "I got the little wolf from Whispering Meadows Village. It's super loyal, has an amazing memory, and a great sense of smell. You can't escape."
She was dead serious. No wonder Willie told me not to mess with her. The wolf was the real problem.
I still had marks on my body, and the poison had just been cured. Now I had to deal with an assassin and her pet.
I thought, 'What a crazy life. When will it end?'
"The little wolf's favorite is the taste of young women. Their bones are crunchy, and the meat is tender," she said casually.
She pulled out her phone, and the wolf obediently went back to their motorcycle.
I stood there, dazed, when the ring on my hand started glowing.
The assassin saw it, and her eyes filled with fear.
But she quickly acted like nothing happened and rode off with the wolf.
When everything was quiet, I kicked away the stone blocking the wheel.
I drove straight to the villa.
As I got out of the car, I felt this weird joy. It was like when I saw the little wolf. But I didn't know why, and I didn't remember ever having a pet like that.
Eric asked, "Who did you just meet?"
His voice snapped me out of my thoughts, putting me at ease.
I couldn't help it and ran straight towards him, then threw myself into his arms.
"It was so scary," I said, my voice trembling. "I just met that psycho female assassin. She almost killed me, and her little wolf would've eaten me. I almost died."
I clung to him, my arms wrapped tightly around his waist, vividly recounting the terrifying encounter.
Eric's expensive suit got all crumpled from my grip, but I didn't care. I just needed comfort.
When that psycho killer showed up, it felt like my world was falling apart. Luckily, she wasn't completely nuts and bought my act for now.
"It's okay. Once you're back in the villa, nothing can harm you," he assured. I clung to Eric's arm, a deep sense of grievance settling within me.
He chuckled softly, wrapping his arm around my waist and gently smoothing my hair.
Feeling his comfort, I felt even more emotional.
"The ring lets me sense your location, and the tattoo on your body does the same. I told you, as long as you call my name when you're in danger, I'll be there." His gentle voice gradually calmed my fears.
All my previous worries melted away. I hummed softly, hugging him tighter.
When I faced the assassin, I was terrified.
While I always kept Eric's words in mind, in the heat of the moment, I nearly forgot them all.
Plus, Eric was injured. If something happened to him because of me, I'd feel even more guilty.
Thinking it over, I looked at my torn clothes and muttered, "That pet looked really obedient and felt so familiar. Do you think I've seen it somewhere before? And she tore my clothes and said the pet could track me. The villa won't be exposed because of me, right?"
When Amelia came, Eric said he hated outsiders. If I led someone here, Eric would be furious.
"What kind of pet?" Eric touched the torn part of my clothes, his brows furrowed.
I could tell he sensed something was off, and it worried him.
"It looked like a wolf, but smaller. Maybe it's some kind of dog that hasn't fully grown," I said.
I didn't recognize the breed, but it looked similar to a wolf.
Hearing my description, Eric's face darkened. "Don't go out alone in the future."
I didn't argue, just nodded obediently.
At that time, Jonathan was busy, and Eric was handling things, so I had to send Amelia back alone.
Who would've thought that even sending someone could get me chased by a killer?
I really couldn't understand why I had such bad luck.
"That thing isn't simple. It carries the scent of Whispering Meadows Village," Eric said.
I looked up, shocked. "You're amazing. That woman did say the pet was from Whispering Meadows Village. Next time I see Willie, I must ask him about it."
Willie was also from Whispering Meadows Village, so he should know.
Eric glanced at me and said softly, "Since that beast wants to find you through your scent, why don't I help you take it?"
He spoke lightly, and I started to consider it.
Since the pet felt so familiar, why not bring it back and study it?
