CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO
AURORA'S P.O.V
The war was over, for now. We had defeated Desmond, for now. But the victory was still elating. Alpha Samuel had his men gather the bodies of Desmond's men into a pile and set them ablaze to be burned to a crisp. The putrid, smell of burning flesh filled the air as we all watched until they were nothing but ashes. Finally, we walked back to the pack, our faces smiling with victorious smiles. The women and children that had been left in the pack house all milled out, their faces alight with happiness at seeing their loved ones again. A feeling of warmth settled in my chest as I watched all these.
"You made this happen, Aurora. You." Lucian told me, his face smiling as he watched me. "I told you, you weren't useless."
I grinned at him, I've finally made peace with the fact that I wasn't able to kill Desmond.
"I know, I should have listened to you right?" I nudged him, he nudged me back.
"Nah, you did when you finally used your powers."
"Hmmm, you're right.", I winked at him, "I did."
The both of us shared a look then laughed. Mirabel ran up to us, a grin on her face, her hair now packed in a ponytail.
"What are you guys talking about? Come on, let's go celebrate."
Normally, I would have said no but this was a victory that needed celebration and I wasn't going to rob myself the chance to celebrate myself.
"Sure." I grinned, taking her hand in mine, Lucian's hand in my other one, "Let's go!"
The celebration party was a blast, I never felt much alive and seen, especially when people would come up toe and say their thanks with sincere smiles. That was all it took me to start crying in front of them. That's how happy I was.
The next two days were a blur, I spent that time sleeping and catching up with the energy I had lost on the battle field. Though the power surge had faded, I could still feel my powers lying dormant in my veins. Waiting for when next I would need them.
On the third day, I woke up with determination in my chest and made my way to Lucian's room. As soon as I knocked, he opened the door, shirtless and still groggy but a smile on his lips.
"Hey Aurora."
"Hey." I blinked for a few seconds before smiling, managing successfully to take my eyes up and not stay on his bare, ripped chest. "How did you know it was me?"
He tapped his nose with a finger and smirked.
"Nose, remember? I can scent you from a mile away. So I knew you were the one. Come in." He shifted away from the door and beckoned me in.
"Thank you."
I passed him, discreetly taking a tiny whiff of his scent. Hmmm. He smelled wonderful. Stop it, Aurora!
"Ahem!"
I cleared my throat and gingerly sat at the edge of his bed while he leaned on the door, his hands in the pocket of his sweat pants and stared at me. I felt my face getting hot and my legs trembling. Why was he looking so sexy and hot standing there? How dare he? Now what was I going to talk to him about again? Great, now my head is all confused.
"Aurora?"
"Huh?", I snapped my head up to stare at him. "Yeah?"
He tilted his head, an amused smirk on his lips.
"You've been staring at a particular direction, not saying anything. Are you alright?".
My face got even hotter.
"O...of course, I'm...I'm alright. I came here to have a discussion with you. A serious discussion, I just...need to remember what it was." I mumbled with my head down, my hands in my lap fidgeting.
He let out a short laugh, "Alright then, take your time."
I only grunted in response as I focused. Okay, I woke up to tell him something about our next move...
"Aha! Now I remember.", I yelled and looked up at him again, he nodded.
"Okay, hit me."
I took a deep breath.
"So, we were able to defeat Desmond this time, he's weak right now but he will soon recover."
Lucian nodded, his face tight, I continued.
"He already knows the fighting capacity of this pack, which means he can come back with much more men than before and I might not be able to stop people from dying."
He exhaled, rubbing his jaw. "Yeah, you're right, I've been thinking that too. So what do you suggest?"
I took another breath and moved forward, placing my hands flat on my laps.
"I don't think we can stay here anymore." He looked up, "It's for the best. I can't live with the thought that their lives are in danger the longer we stay here. At least, if we leave, we can avoid another war between them and Desmond. We need to leave."
He was quiet for a while, his eyes closed in thought. I watched as he took in a plump lip between his teeth and sucked. After a while, he opened his eyes and slowly came to seat beside me. I felt the bed dip heavily when he sat down. He stared at me.
"I'm with you in this, everything you just said makes sense. So, tell me, you seem to have an idea of where we should go. I'll follow you."
This was the hard part.
"Thank you, Lucian, for listening to me." I smiled and took his callused hand in mine, rubbing it gently to soothe my nerves.
"So, I was thinking, because I know he is strong enough to have us. And he can help us too, you know. He won't chase us if that's what you're wondering..." I was blabbering, my voice a bit high but he stopped me.
"Aurora." He squeezed my hand, his eyes earnest.
"Tell me."
I swallowed a lump, I opened my mouth and whispered.
"Alpha Kieran's pack. The Silver Claw pack."
