CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
"I still don't like you, but you said you were going to change...so, I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt."
"You'll accept me?" I almost yelled, my eyes wide.
She shook her head, her eyebrows shooting up, looking appalled.
"Of course not."
"Oh." My head lowered in disappointment.
"But I am will to see if I can like you. If I do, then I just might consider you as my mate material." She smiled.
Hope blooming in my chest, I grabbed her hand tighter in mine.
"Really? You want to give me a chance?"
She tapped my hand with a finger, her lips tilted.
"Might, is the word." she cleared her throat and looked pointedly at my hands that were still wrapped around her body. "Let go now."
"Oh, right." With one last squeeze, I let her go.
"See ya later." She waved and turned to leave.
"Bye." I waved her off as I watched her leave.
After the door shut in her wake, I groaned while staring down at myself.
'Great, you got yourself worked up for nothing.' My wolf taunted.
I shook my head.
"It wasn't for nothing, at least she said she might like me. That was something.". I sounded so pathetic. She's really making me work for it. I never had to chase after women, they all chased after me. This was, if I say, a refreshing experience and worth it too.
After that whole fiasco with dad and Aurora, I avoided dad throughout the day because I knew he was just waiting for the right time to pounce on me again.
The next morning, I went over to Aurora's room.
"Hey."
"Oh, hey. Good morning."
She smiled briefly.
"Where are off to this morning?"
I asked as I noticed that she was already dressed in a pair of baggy jeans that still molded her butt and a black hoodie.
"I'm off to school."
"Oh yeah."
I slapped my forehead feeling stupid. I totally forgot she had school.
"Well, do you need me to escort you."
"What?" She looked horrified as her eyes bulged open and her lips parted as she waved her hands in front of her face. "Don't!"
I chuckled, a bit sad.
"Its alright, I won't."
She sighed in relief and pressed a hand to her chest.
"Don't scare me like that ever again."
"I won't. Have a good day."
"Thanks. See you later."
She did a finger wave before walking out the door.
After she left, I headed to the gym to work out for a bit, Griffin joined me shortly.
"So, what are you going to do?" Griffin asked.
"Do about what?" I asked while I ran on the treadmill.
"About what your dad said. Are you going to choose her or...or lose the title."
I stayed silent for a bit until I finally felt I had run enough, then I got off.
"I don't know what he is planning, but I'm not giving her up, neither am I giving off that alpha title that I have spent my whole life preparing for."
He nodded wordlessly and slapped me on my back.
"I'm with you. Always." Then he added. Even if she doesn't want you."
"Hey!"
"Sorry." He grinned, totally not sorry.
I scoffed. "Whatever." I stood up and stretched. "I'm heading off."
"To where? Are you done already?"
"Yeah." I cleaned my face and opened a bottle of water. "I need to see someone."
"Who?"
I finished the water and started heading out.
"My mom."
'Knock, Knock!'
"Mom, its me, can I come in?"
"The door is open dear."
I pushed the door gently and got in. The room was a little dim and smelled like flowers.
"Lucian, you finally came to visit huh?" Her voice was soft as she teased, a small smile crossed my lips.
"You were the one who refused to step out of your room. A lot of things have happened since then."
"Oh Lucian." She sighed as she rested against the headboard, a weary smile on her lips. "I don't think there is any need for me to show myself outside. I'm trying to avoid your father and whatever troubles he might bring with him."
"That just might be for the best." I agreed with her.
"So tell me, what's bothering you."
"I found my mate."
"Really?"
Her eyes brightened with immense joy as she stretched her hands to hold mine.
"Lucian, I'm so happy for you. Where is she? Who is she? Is she pretty? Have you two accepted each other?"
"Mom slow down." I chuckled, "One question at a time."
"I'm sorry, just tell me."
"Well, she is pretty, very beautiful. For the time being, she is staying in the pack house. But we haven't accepted each other yet, that's another matter." I took a deep breath. "She's an Omega."
"And so?" Mom deadpanned, I blinked and stared in confusion.
"I thought...you didn't want an Omega as my mate."
"When did I ever say that?" She asked with wide eyes.
"Wow." I shook my head, a smile grace my lips. "I'm glad....But mom, dad hates her."
She frowned, "He does, why?"
"He wouldn't tell me, only vaguely said that she was an omega. Immediately he saw her, from the first day, he has been trying to kill her."
I told her of the both times I caught him trying to kill her, his attempts at chasing her away from the pack using Kieran and his final decision he had given me.
"But who is she? I need to know. Why does he harbor such hate for such a young girl." She shook her head softly, her forehead wrinkled as she frowned more deeply.
"Her name is Aurora Steel."
She suddenly went still and stared at me. "Huh?"
"Her name is Aurora Steel." I repeated more cautiously as I watched her.
"Oh dear.", she groaned and closed her eyes.
"Mom, do you know her? You know why dad is reacting like this? Your reaction right now.."
"Lucian..." She squeezed my hands tight. "I support your relationship with her." Then she shook her head.
"But your father...it's not just her he hates. He hates her line."
"Her line?" I frowned.
"Yes, her family line, history, her pack line."
I groaned. "I'm confused. Her pack? This is her pack."
"Lucian..." She started, "Aurora...is not as simple as you might think."
