Chapter 46

Alpha Hector’s POV

There was a ringing sensation in my head as the men talked. I tried to shake it off without avail as I banged my fist on the table. “That’s enough talks with all of you!”

They kept quiet, staring in my direction. I slapped a cutlery away, watching it drop to the ground, clattering before I dropped to my seat.

“You all can leave.”

No one moved at my command, exchanging glances with each other. “Did you not hear me!? You all can leave!” I shouted at them.

They stood as the guards came closer, surround me while the hushed tones carried on after them before they disappeared out of the room.

“Any reports from my beta?” I asked as I stared into the glowing candle in front of me.

“There’s been no messenger birds in the area. It could mean he was close to castle and would not want to disturb you,” the guard answered after the place had turned to a graveyard.

I sighed as I stood from my chair. “Ready my horse and some men. I’d like to meet him on the way.”

“But alpha. Beta Ryan is still behind.....”

My stare did enough to shut him up as I pushed myself away from the table. “Is Ryan the alpha or I am?”

He nodded his head as he turned around, letting me walk in front of him. I had grown from a seasoned warrior to a man blinded by his emotions. These were times I had to do something desperately quicker or else.

I sat still, stumped in my thoughts, while I waited for them to prepare the things I needed. The guards came later, stating they had done accordingly. My walk to the castle was filled with worries as I wondered what would happen.

I had woken up to an empty bed in the morning, and still had not seen Lila throughout the day. “Have you seen my Luna?” I asked as we walked towards the front of the castle.

“Not this morning, alpha.” The guard with me said as we walked.

I shook my head as I realized I had asked the wrong set of guards. If there was someone to ask; it was those who watched my door.

The black stallion stood in front of the castle with the other guards around it. One guard held its rein while another groomed it. It brayed as it saw me come closer to it, rubbing its neck towards me as my hands reached for its head.

“I’d like you to reconsider waiting as Beta Ryan isn’t back yet,” the guard holding the rein said as I mounted my horse.

The beast clattered with its hooves to the ground, gradually calming down as I brushed my hand on its neck. “How would you like you head severed from your body? With a blade or with my claws?” I asked him with eyes glowing golden.

He shook his head, reaching out his hands to give me the rein before stepping away. The horse took off as I whipped it, springing through the castle and out.

I didn't need the men anymore, as I had a change of mind. I did not need to meet with Ryan.

I let out my hair, letting it fly with the wind as the horse carried me along. I didn’t know why I called for the horse instead of morphing into my wolf form. Maybe my state of mind affected my decisions more than I had expected.

I let the horse carry me through the pack, breaking out into the forest beyond before I stopped it. It brayed, huffing and eager to carry on with the journey, but I did not want to venture out so far with the sun high in the sky.

“I’ve come out now. What do I do?” I asked myself as I wrapped the rein around my hands, guiding the horse towards any position my mind deemed right.

The sound of running water greeted me from a distance after some minutes of walking. I had almost made a roundabout turn to the castle by the hour.

A deer burst from under the growth in some distance, breaking the thought of bad-luck that was growing in my mind.

“Seems the goddess has us in her mind as she brings us good tidings,” I said to the horse as I dropped from its back, dismounting lightly to the ground, as not to spook the animal. My claws, drawn out, had me stalking the deer.

Voices reached my ears at that moment, breaking my concentration on my hunting. A stick snapped from a mistimed step, sending the deer breaking into a run.

“Who could be in the woods at this hour?” I asked, forgetting that I was also in the woods. Following the voice until I was in the vicinity, searching and pushing the bushes until I walked to the site, hiding behind a tree.

Her familiar hair stood, a distinct feature of hers separating her and also exposing her.

“Lila,” I muttered her name as it came into view. Her laughter filled the air, echoing more beautifully than the singing of the birds. “What are you doing here?”

The question answered itself as I turned my gaze, searching the area for the second person. There he was, a familiar face and eyes that came from my loins.

“You are the one making her happy,” I noted, stepping away from the sight even when my heart sought I did something harsh.

I could not, as it was my son standing next to her. I nodded my head as I saw their smiles. A facade to trick me of what I sensed happened between the both of them, if only they saw me. I turned the horse away, scampering out of the woods.

I was seething with rage as I returned to the house. My head was clear, understanding the problem I had hidden under my roof.

“Why would he do this to me?” I asked myself as I walked in, rubbing my hand against my temples.

“Alpha,” a guard said, walking into the place I had walked into.

I raised my head, viewing him in a blur, ready to transfer the aggression to him if he made the wrong step.

“Would you have me do something for you?” He continued, lowering his head in a bow.

I straightened my shoulder as his appearance was like the start of an idea in my head.

“if you really want to do something for me. Gather some men, make it a secret.”

He raised up his head with confusion written on his face concerning his assignment.

“Get Lila. Anywhere you can find her and lock her in my room,” I said as a smirk appeared on my face.

If I could not have her for myself. I could stop the both of them from ever having something to do with themselves. It was the perfect plan.
