Chapter 45
Lila’s POV
His leaving the room was like a sort of miracle as I applied whatever perfume I found on the table, dunking some of it into my clothes in the bathroom before I left the room diffused with fresh scents I was almost choking.
I turned towards the path that would lead me to the kitchen, hoping I would not bump into him as I knew what the next thing would be and I was not prepared for it.
“Do you have something you want us to do for you?” A guard said as I peeked my head from a corner.
A scream almost left my lips as I stepped away, startled from his appearance as I had not expected him there. He turned around, checking if there was something behind him from my reaction.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized, heaving a deep breath before I throw him a smile.
He nodded, standing while he waited for my answer. I raised an eyebrow at him, forgetting he had asked me a question.
“I was thinking you needed my help to do something with the way you peeked,” he said.
I nodded my head as I realized why he was standing in front of me. “There’s no need for you to do anything for me. I was just taking a walk through the castle.”
He hummed, moving out of my way. I heaved a sigh of relief as I continued my walk, stopping in front of the all too familiar sound of the bubbling pots.
I stepped in, inhaling the aroma of perfectly cooked food. The sound of knife against the cutting board as the chef sliced onions and other things needed to be cut. I stopped in front of the counter lady Helga assigned to me on the first day I was brought here.
My hand caressed the spots my knife made nasty cuts, causing a little smile to drop from my lip.
“What are you doing here?”
I turned around to face Lady Helga with her lofty look plastered on her face. I looked around, realizing everyone was staring in my direction. Lady Helga held no smile to her face as she placed her hand on her waist. “I thought I could come back and spend some time here.”
“I thought I told you to stop coming to the kitchen, except it was necessary?”
I nodded my head, heaving a deep breath. “What do you expect me to do in the morning? I got bored with staying in the alpha’s room.”
Lady Helga's hands wrapped around me, pulling me along. “That is what Lunas do. Stay in the alpha’s room and give them pups.”
I turned as she pushed me away, closing the sweltering heat of the kitchen with the door to my face while I stood with nothing to do. I was an outcast when labeled the alpha’s whore, still an outcast when he put me out as his luna.
The rest of my day was spent wandering around the castle, finding what I could do, but no one would let me in on any job. I was happy that I no longer worked as I did when I first came, but I needed the work now that I was jobless.
I sighed as I sat outside, watching the sun rise in the sky until it was time for breakfast before I walked towards the kitchen once more. This time it was to take my meal in order not to anger Lady Helga.
“There she is.”
I turned towards the voice in the dining. Alpha Hector sat with some of his men. Kyril sat next to him with a seat separating the both of them. I entered the dining with a smile on my face as I had not expected them to be inside.
He laughed as he pulled me to his side, placing me between him and his son. Kyril ate, acting like we had never talked to each other while his father talked to the men at his table.
I smiled, my smile fading away each time I turned to Kyril who looked uncomfortable seeing me in that state, but he could do nothing than sit at his father’s table. Drink the same drink and feed on the same food he feasted on.
“I think I want some fresh air,” I said as I made to stand from the seat.
Alpha Hector’s hand gripped mine, pulling me even further than I had expected onto his laps. “Where is the future Luna of the pack thinking of going to?”
I chuckled as I looked around the table. All of them present had a smile on their face except for Kyril, who continued his feast on the meal before him. “I thought I could have a breath of fresh air.”
He chuckled as he banged his fist on the table. “You heard what the Luna said? She wanted a breath of fresh air. She just does not know what kind of position she has found herself.”
The men laughed, banging tables with their wine cups.
“She doesn’t know other men have found her more valuable than anything in the pack.” One man said amidst the ruckus.
The voices stopped talking as the sound of wood shattering over the wall erupted. The missile barely missing the man who had spoken last. I could feel his body vibrating, his grip tightening around my wrist, and his stomach rumbling before he spoke.
“Mind your tongue, commander. You seat at my table doesn’t mean you can talk about my future Luna like she was some commodity,” he said, dragging a growl at the end of his word.
“I’m sorry, alpha,” the man said, lowering his head to the table.
“Apologize to her.”
The man raised his head, turning his gaze from Alpha Hector to me. Alpha Hector growled at him, folding his hand into a fist.
“I’m sorry, Lila,” the man said, lowering his head.
“That’s more like it,” Alpha Hector said as he unfolded his hands. “Someone get me a fresh cup.”
The room burst into liveliness while I tried to avoid Kyril’s eyes every time he turned his eyes in my direction.
“You were saying something about leaving for some fresh air when you haven’t had something to eat. Didn’t you just step into the castle from outside?”
I nodded my head, realizing his question was pointing at something I did not want him to think of. “Well, I would eat if that’s the prerequisite for me to leave the table,” I said, placing my hand on his palm.
He pulled closer to me, covering my hand with his. I could feel his dick hardening under my weight and Kyril’s watchful eyes. “Why don’t you follow me back to the room after breakfast? Just you and I before you go for your fresh air.” He said, whispering into my ears.
I swallowed hard as I watched Kyril, knowing he heard what his father had said. “Whatever the alpha wants,” I answered, standing up from his laps to the sit next to him.
Alpha Hector laughed out loud, joining the men on the table with the noises they made. Kyril moved his hand, placing it over mine under the pandemonium at the table.
“I understand,” he mouthed before pulling his hand, smiling and raising his cup to the noisy crowd.
I heaved a sigh, facing the food in front of me, but barely having the stomach to place a spoonful in my mouth. I was stuck between two things: a possessive man and my attraction to the man’s son. A deadly game I was playing with many things at risk.
