Chapter 47

Lila’s POV

I smiled as I walked by his side, heading back to the castle. We talked without touching each other for fear of not letting our scents interchange. Alpha Hector had his eyes on me, and I was sure he would get us if he was observant enough.

“Seems you’ll have to get married no matter what,” I said, picking a leaf blade from the ground.

Kyril chuckled, rubbing his chin with his hands. “I doubt I’d get married at this point,” he said, turning towards me with a smile.

I returned his smile, fiddling with the leaf in my hand as I thought about it. I was happy for a while, but with the things I had; it wasn’t a cause for smiling when I was not with him.

“In three days’ time. Ara would be here with Ryan, and I’m sure my father would want the marriage done as fast as possible,” he said, stopping at a spot the sun shone through the tree canopy.

I stopped to admire his beauty, even if it was for a while. Some sticks snapping in the distance had made us stop our discussions, pushing away before someone saw us.

“That means we have three days to plan our next step?” I asked as we continued our walk.

He shrugged his shoulders, sticking his hands into his pocket. “More or less. Three days,” he repeated.

I sighed, watching as we got closer to the castle. It was depressing enough to know I would lose whatever hope I had to escape from Alpha Hector’s grasp.

He stopped, stretching his hands to hold me but stopped midway, staring at the place of contact before he dropped his hands to his side. I knew his reason, as it was necessary for the both of us to avoid some things. “There will be a way. We will find a way, no matter how dark the way looks like.”

“I hope we could find a way,” I said, dropping the leaf to the ground.

He smiled, placing his hands in his pockets once more. “Which means I have to leave you to yourself and find ways of having you to myself.”

A blush appeared on my face. I lowered my head to hide it from him, a smile on my face.

He left, disappearing down the hall. His leaving me was like a hole in my chest as I turned around with no direction in mind.

Lady Helga appeared from the darkness, walking towards me with her lofty gaze. Her dressing was a show of the status she placed herself. “Lila,” she called my name, stopping at a distance while waiting for me to answer.

I looked around, hoping she had not stayed around to see the discussion between me and Kyril.

“Lady Helga,” I called her name in respect, as I could not escape her sight.

She walked closer, looking around with her hand fan close to her face. “Seems you are quite busy.”

“I only went out for a walk,” I said. It was only a part of truth that the sense of smell would confirm with no additives to feed the mind.

She nodded her head as she walked away from me. “I really do not concern myself about your matter, Ms. Lila. You will be Luna, and I’ll be just the head of maids.”

I stood, listening to the silence as she stopped walking. She said nothing after. Her footsteps echoed down the hall until I heard it not me. I heaved a sigh as I continued my walk back to my room.

“Ms Lila.” I turned towards the voice, seeing two guards standing in front of me.

“What’s the matter?” I asked, throwing them a smile even with my beating heart as I felt this movement was because of a certain person.

They said nothing, walking closer to me. I could smell their intention as I spurn around, taking to my heels, but they were faster and stronger than me as they caught up with me in no time, grabbing me by my arm.

I stumbled to the ground, rolling with one guard still holding to my hand.

“Hold still, Ms Lila. I wouldn’t want to use force on you,” he said, still holding me from escaping while his counterpart joined us, holding me still.

“Leave me alone,” I said, squirming under the weight of the second one.

They stood, pulling me with them to a standing position while they panted from the chase I had them chasing me. “I told you she would attempt to run.” One guard said, straining his grip on my hand.

“I will make sure the alpha hears how you treated his future luna,” I said, threatening them with those words. There was a sign of worry on their face, disappearing as they looked at each other.

“The alpha asked for your arrest,” one said, throwing me a mischievous smile as they dragged me along.

“Why?”

The both of them shrugged their shoulders as they continued with whatever they did. “You’d have to ask the alpha yourself. He just asked us all to take you in, and orders are orders.”

I heaved a deep breath, staring at the blocks of wall I passed through. They looked familiar, different from the path to the dungeon.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked.

They laughed once more. “You know these parts already.”

They were right, as these parts were familiar. They led to the alpha’s room. My guess was right as they stopped in front of the room, throwing me in like I was a piece of filth.

“What are you doing?” I cried as I ran to the door. It shut to my face, trapping me in a familiar room.

The flames licked fiercely as it slowly died to embers. I walked towards the window, watching the curtains flail to the rippling wind. Trapped in between the lion and a hard fall from his room. The bed looked like a better option for me as I fell on it, wrapping my hands around my leg as I waited for the fate that awaited me.

“Kyril.” His name came to mind in my weakest place. He had to know that something was wrong
