CHAPTER 44

Alpha Hector’s POV

“Why would Ryan send a messenger when he is in friendly territory?” I asked myself as I walked into the main room. A guard stood in front of me, seemingly out of breath even with the time I had wasted walking to this place.

“My alpha,” he said, lowering into a bow as he saw me walk in.

I grunted as I walked to my throne, sitting on it to stare at the almost empty room before I stretched my hand for him to rise. “You can speak now. I have something I have to get back to.”

He nodded as he brought a piece of paper to me. Was it so important the messenger could not say the word as he stood before me? I thought to myself as I unraveled the paper.

It was from Ryan and I could recognize the bird scratching of a handwriting I’ve always asked him to improve on. I sighed as I read through it, finding out the reason he remained where he was.

“Is this the only thing he had to say?” I said as I rolled back the paper, placing it into the hand of the guard standing next to me.

“He only asked I give it to you,” the messenger answered, bowing again.

I stood from my sit, pacing around the room as my thought returned to Lila. I shook my head, trying to shake the jealousy prying at my heart.

I scanned the room, thinking of ways I could shake out the person spending time with Lila, oblivious to the person standing in front of me.

“Any information you would want me to report back to your beta, Ryan?” The messenger asked, jerking me off my thoughts.

I shook my head as I turned to him. “You’ve returned home. There’s no need to send you hounding through the forest again. Go back home to your family and spend the rest of the day.”

He bowed, walking out of the room. I sighed as the door shut closed, walking towards it. I had to speed up Kyril’s wedding, and it had to be soon.

The guards opened the door, letting me out as my next destination was my room. The message had left me leaving some business unattended to, and I was still in my romantic demeanor and did not want her to see me in a poor light.

“What’s wrong with me?” I asked myself as held out my hands in front of me. I was aging; I knew that, but I was a seasoned warrior and I was letting my emotions take over because of a girl.

“Is she worth it?” The question led me to a wall, leaving me blank when I noticed I was walking along the path of my son’s room.

“Kyril,” I called his name as I stepped in front of the door. It was like déjà vu as I remember his scent in the morning. “Where are you headed to this morning?”

He walked closer, holding his hands behind me. “Thought I could come see you this morning.”

“Which meant you came earlier this morning, or I thought I had a sniff of you earlier this morning,” I said, patting his back while I nudged him to walk with me.

He looked at me with surprise before facing ahead. “Seems you might have had a dream about me. Which could explain my sneezing fits this morning,” he said, chuckling as he wiped his nose with the back of a finger.

I chuckled as well, taking an easy step with him as we walked through the castle. I had to ditch him to get to my room.

“It seems you yourself had a hell of a lovely time last night,” he said, nudging towards the clothes I wore.

I placed my nose downwards, suddenly remembering the reason Lila never wanted me to get closer to her. The headache came after like it waited for me to remember I had a hangover before it struck.

“Yeah. Spent some time with a few cups of wine,” I said as I rubbed my hands over my temple.

Kyril chuckled as he placed his hand over the hilt of his sword. “Seems more like you have the jugs to yourself.”

I laughed with him, wincing as the headache struck harder. “The effect of the night is me spending some time with the healers.”

He chuckled, stopping at a crossroads. “I will leave you to the healers.”

I chuckled, turning around when his voice stopped in me in my track.

“I heard there was a message from your beta, Ryan,” he said as I turned to face him.

“Didn’t know you’d be in so much hurry to see Ara,” I said, tilting my head to look at him. “What’s the matter, boy?” There was a smirk on my face as I asked.

“I’m about to have her as a wife. I might as well know of her condition when I know she is coming to my pack,” he answered, folding his hands across his chest.

I wanted to growl at him and ask him to leave my presence, but he had a right to question me about his future wife. “You are right about the message from Ryan. He sent me the message quite earlier, as Alpha Benedict had him spending more days than planned in his pack.”

He nodded as he walked forward. “That means we still have more time to prepare for her arrival?”

“I doubt that,” I answered, placing my hand under my chin. “He sent the messenger some days ago. It only means he’d be on his way with Ara soon. The most we can wait for him is at three days,” I said, placing a hand on his shoulder as I had walked closer to him."

“I just wanted to be sure,” he answered.

“You don’t have to be in a hurry. Your mate would be here in less than a week,” I said, chuckling as I turned away from him.

“A bath would do you good to wipe away that stench of alcohol,” he shouted at me as I walked away from me.

I turned towards him, throwing him a mischievous smirk. “How about you worry about what to wear on your wedding day, and leave what could happen to me to the gods and goddesses?”

He laughed, putting his hand on his chest and a gentle nod. “I doubt anyone would want to get caught in my trap.”

I nodded as I turned around, hurrying to my room. The guards bowed as I walked to the door, pushing it open. I could smell Lila’s perfume even before I entered.

Every part of my body seemed eager to engage with her as I moved to the bathroom without checking for her. She had some clothes in a bucket covered with the same scent. I shrugged my shoulders as I threw my clothes to the ground, savoring the warmth of the water the maids had prepared.

I closed my eyes as my mind drifted to what I would do to her after I finished my bath. A smile crossed my lips after I had washed my body, stepping out of the tub with a dripping body.

“Lila,” I called out, grabbing a towel by the side while I made for the bedroom. My call responded with silence as I cleaned my face, tying the towel around my waist.

“Alpha.”

I turned around to Helga, standing by the door.

“Your food is ready,” she said, holding out some clothes for me to wear.

I sighed as my hardened dick flattened out, taking the clothes she had offered me. “What’s wrong with everyone trying to see me when I just want to have sex?” I muttered.
