Chapter 36
Alpha Hector’s POV.
Her smile caught me off as she dropped the food on the table. She glowed more just as Helga noticed. My hands wrapped themselves around her small waist, pulling her towards me.
She gasped at my hold, faltering as I sat her on my lap in front of the men.
“What’s the shock for?” I asked as I took a spoonful of the meal, moaning in satisfaction as the meal tasted heavenly.
She did not answer, sitting still while I could feel the warmth of her ass on my body. It turned me on, causing my dick to harden under my dress.
The men ate, some stealing looks in my direction, but I did not care as I searched their eyes, hoping one of them would give themselves up and let me know what deal they had with my wife. None batted an eyelid in my direction, eating the food like they did not see me pick a supposed meal and place it on my lap.
“Kyril,” I called out as my son made to walk past the dining room.
“Father,” he answered, walking into the dining to find us feasting on the delicacies Helga had in front of me
He stared at me, at the lady on my lap, and back at the food on the table. “You called me,” he said, putting his hands in his pocket.
“Yes,” I said with a chuckle, picking up some chicken meat from the plate. “Saw you passing by and thought my son was missing some things he shouldn’t.”
“Food with my father and those who respect him is not something I haven’t done before,” he said, pulling his hands from his pocket and wrapping them over his chest.
“And they say I’m the serious one. Seems you’ve taken that aspect of me,” I said, chuckling.
He did not reciprocate, standing there like a lone boat on a stormy sea. He was different in a way I could not explain.
“Come over,” I said, beckoning with a wave of my hand towards me. He walked closer, standing next to me while I held Lila on the other side. “Take a drink. You cannot have a long face like that when we have something important coming up.”
“That’s how my face is,” he answered, still with a straight face.
I sighed as I found nothing I could say to up his mood. “Your face would not stop you from sharing a drink with your father now, would it?”
He shook his head, picking a cup while I filled it up for him. He swallowed it in one gulp, dropping the cup on the table. “Done as you wanted.”
I chuckled as I picked another chicken meat, chewing on its bone. If he could share a drink with me; it meant I was still on his good side.
“What are you going to do after now? Why don’t you join us to eat and drink? After all, it is about to rain with good news for both you and me.” I said, pointing to myself with the bone of chicken in my hand.
He sighed, looking around the table like he was looking for a place to sit, but changed his mind as he returned his gaze to me. “I’d spent the entire night in the rose garden. Need some time to clear my head before that moment comes.”
I laughed, patting my lap as I pushed Lila down. “You can leave now. I have to discuss with my boy over here,” I said, leaning on my arm as I stared at him.
The room seemed it was just him and me watching each other until I relaxed into my seat. “You’ve been distant since you came back to the pack. Is there something troubling you?”
“Nothing much that I could not handle by myself. After all, you taught me to be a man and to take care of my worries. It would be demeaning to you if I let you take care of my worries,” he said as he walked to where I was.
I raised my head, staring at him from my elevated position. He seemed different from the boy who left home some months ago. I shook my head to shake the feeling as I had expected nothing less from him after he left for that meeting.
Helga walked into the room, ordering her maids to take out the empty wine jugs and plate.
I turned towards the direction Kyril walked through before turning my gaze towards Helga again. Something did not just feel right, and I felt it was concerning Lila.
“Helga,” I called out, shifting uncomfortably in my seat.
She came to me, lowering her head in a bow. “What would you have me do for you? Another meal or a different one?”
I waved her off, staring at the eyes of the men as they had fun, sharing between themselves their old tales.
“Maybe another brew of wine would do you good.”
I shook my head as I turned to look at her. “My heart is troubled.”
“You have them in the same room as you. They should have something that could soothe your mind.”
“They’re as drunk and as wasted as I am. I doubt any of them would have anything of wisdom leaving their lips,” I answered.
“What can trouble you so that you can no longer confide in them?”
“Remember that issue we discussed?”
She nodded, looking around the room like we were about to share a secret. “About Lila?”
“I want you to do something for me,” I said, looking at the room at the men who were eating.
“Whatever you want, my lord.”
“I want you to move Lila to my room.”
She looked at me like I had something revolting. “Have I done or said anything wrong with that move?” I asked, returning my gaze to her.
She shook her head slowly. “It only came abruptly as this is the first one you’ve moved to your room ever since....” She stopped, looking at me as she seemed to notice she had crossed a line.
“I’m drunk. Not stupid, Helga. Do as you’re told,” I growled at her, taking a sip of wine from the table.
“I will do as you command.”
“I want it done this night and quickly,” I said as I turned away from her, walking to the men who seemed caught up in their revelry of fine food and drink.
She bowed, walking away and disappearing into the shadows while I returned to my drinking. First, I had to get Kyril married. Whatever followed would be the will of Artemis, but before it happened. I had to make sure my future wife was not seeing another man.
I dropped to my chair, grabbing a wine from the table. The men cheered as I raised the drink to them. “A toast to our future.”
Glass clinked, and their contents were thrown into the belly of men in merriment while I sought to keep to myself what belonged to me.
