Chapter 120: Bethany Is Not Biological
Samuel got excited too.
"Think you're the only one with money? Catherine, if you beat me, I'll give you a new company too!"
Catherine looked at the two old men helplessly.
This kind of competition was okay, but really unnecessary.
Half an hour later, Samuel completely panicked!
"Catherine, who taught you to play chess? I can't do anything against you!"
Marcus said proudly, "Even Brady can't beat Catherine at chess, and you dared to laugh at me? You think you're better?"
Samuel used to be a chess master when he was young, but he couldn't even last half an hour against Catherine!
"Embarrassing, isn't it?"
"Catherine being this good is because of the Martinez family genes. What's it got to do with you?"
Marcus got upset, slammed his teacup down hard, and started a new round of arguing.
"What do you mean! Catherine is our Windsor family's granddaughter!"
"Are you saying your wife has good genes? Bethany, I'm not calling you stupid, but your mom really isn't great."
Bethany wiped the cold sweat from his face, thinking this was no different from being directly insulted.
Samuel said casually, "But it's fine. You're not Lila's biological child anyway, and you don't look like Lila, so that's actually a good thing."
The whole family was shocked!
What did he mean Bethany wasn't Lila's biological child?
Bethany was confused too.
"Dad, what do you mean I'm not my mom's biological child? Whose child am I?"
Samuel knew he'd said the wrong thing and could only laugh awkwardly.
"I was just talking nonsense. You couldn't possibly be born from me, right? Grace and I couldn't have produced a child that looks like this."
Bethany fell silent.
Fine, he was still saying he was ugly.
Samuel and Grace were indeed famous beauties. Back then, he fell in love with Aurora at first sight.
Marcus frowned at Samuel, not speaking for a long time, turning a chess piece over and over in his hand, feeling like there was something more to what he just said.
"Are you and Felix hiding something from me?"
"What nerve! Who do you think you are? Do we have to tell you everything?"
Samuel wasn't buying it at all and pulled Catherine away to play chess.
"Come on, Catherine, let's play chess. I've already figured out how to write my new book! Starting with chess!"
He'd already figured out how to write it. He was confident that when his new book came out, everyone would know about Catherine!
This was a writer's romance—putting all his feelings into his pen.
Everyone who read that book would know he had an absolutely perfect granddaughter!
"Do you know something you're not telling Marcus?"
"Don't know, don't know anything, and even if I did, I wouldn't say."
Samuel glanced at Marcus scratching his head.
Just not telling you!
Serenitia City, The Smith Villa.
Oliver dragged his injured body back to The Smith Villa and collapsed on the sofa, completely exhausted!
Celeste, Declan, and Anouk followed him, not in much better shape.
"Oliver, contact Catherine. I heard from Brent she was at the Smith family's old house a couple days ago, probably wanting to go back and pay respects to your mom."
Oliver perked up immediately.
He grabbed Declan and Anouk's phones to call Catherine, wanting to use Elodie to threaten Catherine, at least to get her to come back to Serenitia City. Once she was here, they could do whatever they wanted.
Catherine answered the phone casually, but hearing Oliver's voice, she hung up and blocked him without a word.
Oliver had just gotten out one sentence: "Catherine..."
Hearing the disconnection tone, Oliver was furious!
That jerk!
Declan and Anouk wouldn't give up. "I heard Catherine left by helicopter. Did she meet some rich person? Oliver, are Catherine's biological parents really poor?"
Catherine's biological parents were raising chickens in Tranquil County! That was right, wasn't it?
Oliver wasn't quite sure either, so he sat up and dialed a number.
"It's Oliver. I remember you used to live in Tranquil County? Here's the thing—a relative's child wants to visit Tranquil County. What's it like there?"
The person on the other end laughed mockingly and burped.
"Everyone in our county moved away. Tranquil County was taken over by the government for experiments now. They compensated us quite a bit!"
Oliver was shocked. Everyone from Tranquil County moved away?
Didn't that mean Catherine's biological parents were actually rich now, from the government's land compensation?
To resolve this situation, Oliver had urgently sold many properties to get out of jail. He really needed money now!
If he could find Catherine's biological parents, he could at least get some compensation for raising Catherine, right?
"How much money did you get?"
"Not much, our family only got ten million dollars. The household that got the most in our county received fifty million dollars."
Fifty million dollars!
Oliver got excited immediately!
Unfortunately, he had no idea what Catherine's biological parents' names were, otherwise he could find out how much money they received.
After hanging up, Oliver touched the bruises on his face and narrowed his eyes.
"I'm also very supportive of Catherine and Brent's marriage, but we just can't reach Catherine. We can't even help arrange a good match."
Declan and Anouk simply decided to stay at The Smith Villa.
"Catherine is the daughter you raised. If she won't answer your calls, find another way. If nothing else works, report to the police that Catherine is missing. Won't the police do anything?"
"Where's Clara? Tell her to come massage my legs. My whole body hurts!"
Looking at the demanding Declan and Anouk, Oliver felt a headache coming on.
He had to find a way to locate Catherine first!
Thinking this, Oliver gritted his teeth and called Lila.
"I'm Catherine's adoptive father. I don't know what's wrong with Catherine lately—she won't see me. My in-laws miss her so much they're getting sick. I'm hoping you can help us see Catherine and ask if she's willing to come home?"
Lila had a pile of her own problems to deal with.
Hearing Oliver's voice, she initially didn't want to bother, but when he said he hoped Catherine would return to the Smith family, she became interested.
Marcus wanting to divorce her was probably because Catherine said something she shouldn't have.
Otherwise, why now and not earlier or later?
If she could get Catherine kicked out, she could stay with the Windsor family!
"You really want Catherine to come home?"
"Yes! Absolutely!"
Lila thought for a moment. "Alright, wait for my message."
Oliver hung up!
With Lila's help, Catherine would definitely come back. Once she was here, he could do whatever he wanted!
Lila's text message arrived on Catherine's phone.
"I can agree to the divorce. Come pick up the divorce papers yourself!"
