Past Life
A few weeks have passed since Arabelle's mom has taken the potion to break the curse. Although the curse still lingers, she's recovering. Her skeleton-thin body is slowly getting better. The dark circles below her eyes are also fading and are almost gone. She feels and looks a lot better now compared to before. Arabelle is still worried about her mom though. The curse is still there according to Armand. The potion only made it dormant for now.
That's what Arabelle is thinking whenever she looks at her mom. The curse might still harm her and it can be worse next time. It can only be stopped after the descendant meets his end. But how can she just end the life of a stranger? It's not something a girl like her can do easily. Maybe she can find a spell for that instead of meeting the descendant. Whenever Ralph visits, that's the only time she can relax and feels genuinely happy.
“How's your mom?” Ralph asked her when he saw her at the door while opening it for him.
“She's getting better everyday. Come in.” Arabelle invited him inside their small house.
Ralph visits everyday and extends her time off from work. He also told her that she will be his assistant once she gets back. There's no need for a maid in his castle anymore since the guys are really helpful. Justin is great with the garden while Armand cleans inside. Everyday feels like a sleep over in the vampire's castle these days. Ralph mentioned about Cassie's return to her as well and she just nodded as if busy thinking about something else.
Arabelle can't focus on the present because of the descendant. She needs to find another way to deal with that problem. Although her mom seems to be fine now, she knows that it's just a matter of time. The curse is still there which means her mom is not safe yet. She's also having nightmares about Enrico, the fairy prince. He seems to show up in her dreams every night. She can't remember much about what happened between them.
“Is there anything bothering you?” Ralph asked which made her go back to the present time.
“I'm still worried about mom. What if that curse hurt her again?” she replied honestly to him.
“Don't worry, Armand is still trying to find a solution. I'm letting him use the library in the castle.” he shared and squeezed her hand to make her feel better.
“Thanks, I guess I'm just being silly. How's Cassie doing by the way?” She decided to change the subject.
“She already went to the council yesterday. It seems like she really wants to get turned down tonight.” he replied.
“Being a vampire looks cool. I can't blame her.” she said but she doesn't seem like she wanted it herself.
“Do you want to become a vampire too?” he can't stop himself from asking her about it now.
“I'm not sure. I never thought about it before.” she replied and just laughed it off.
Ralph felt relieved about her thoughts about turning into a vampire. He doesn't want her to turn into one because for him, it feels like a curse. Although, it's the only way that they can be together forever if they want to. Being immortal can be pretty cool but he never thought about it like that before. He never chooses to become a vampire like Cassie. Back then, he was just turned into one without his consent. Nobody taught him the ways either.
Now that they are in the modern times, everyone seems to have a choice. People can make a request now to become a vampire by the council. Back in his time, the vampires will just attack someone. It's up to them if they will turn their victims or just let them die. Arabelle never thought that she would have a conversation like this with Ralph. Her mind is still occupied by her mom's condition. It's hard to think about something else at this point.
“I think it's better for you to stay mortal for now.” he decided to share his thoughts with her.
“You don't think our relationship will last that long?” she teased him.
“I just don't want you to see your loved ones dying one by one while staying alive forever.” he told her sadly.
“Is that what happened to you before?” she asked and he just nodded trying to avoid her eyes.
“When you remember your past life, you will know what I'm talking about.” he told her without thinking.
“What do you mean, my past life?” she suddenly gets curious about what he said.
He didn't respond to her question since he should be waiting for her to remember it herself. Even if he believes she's Sofia's reincarnation, he can't say anything. She might think that he's still hung up about his past. He can't just say anything for now. Arabelle is still worried about her mom. All he can do for now is to support her with whatever she needs. He will help her to find the descendant and take care of it himself whatever it is.
Arabelle can't help but think about what Ralph said about remembering her past life. She had no idea why did he told her that. Maybe they knew each other before this life. The problem is, she doesn’t believe in reincarnation. How can anyone die just to be reborn once again? She don’t think it's possible to happen. Although vampires and werewolves were just myths before she met them. Maybe she has been reincarnated and can't just remember it.
“I doubt I had a past life before this one.” She told herself and went to check on her mom from their room.
“Did Ralph go home already?” Amie asked when she saw her sister entering the room.
“Yeah, he needs to do something. Did mom wake up earlier?” she asked and suddenly felt worried.
“No, not yet. She's just sleeping all day.” Amie replied.
Arabelle immediately checks on her mom's pulse just in case. She feels the slow beats which makes her worried about her condition. When she holds her hand, it feels ice cold. She decided to wake her up to ask her how she feels but nothing. Maybe she's still trying to recover from being ill before. They decided to just let her rest for now and just wait for her to wake up. Although she hasn't eaten anything since last night and it worries them.
The two sisters went outside the room to let their mom rest for now. They are both a bit hungry so they decided to have a snack. It's still early to cook dinner so they made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for them. They were laughing as they ate and talked about their childhood. It feels good to reminisce about the past when they were still younger. A loud bang from the room made them stop and realized they needed to check on their mom immediately.
