Chapter 381

Chapter 381

Audrey's heart skipped a beat when she heard her name called out. She froze, her breath catching in her throat, and looked around frantically, realizing there was no way out.

Seeing Audrey stuck in place, Stanley barked again, "Where are you? Step up and apologize!"

Stanley was genuinely pissed this time. Audrey had caused a serious incident that ended with someone getting hurt, and that someone was Raymond's wife. Anyone else in her shoes would be in deep trouble.

Ever since he found out about Emily and Raymond's relationship, Stanley had treated Emily with the utmost respect and caution. He couldn't believe Audrey had the nerve to cause such a mess.

Audrey took a few shaky steps forward, her legs feeling like jelly, unable to meet Emily's eyes. She kept her head down and stammered, "I'm sorry, Ms. Johnson. I... I messed up. Please forgive me."

Emily's expression stayed cold and indifferent. If a simple apology could fix every mistake, society's tolerance for errors would be way too high. Unfortunately, in their world, there was zero tolerance for screw-ups.

Seeing Emily's silence, Audrey looked to Stanley for help, her fear obvious. Stanley gritted his teeth, "Keep apologizing! Don't stop!"

Audrey's mind went blank with fear, sweat beading on her forehead, her face pale. She forced herself to continue, "Ms. Johnson, I'm really sorry. I lost my head. I shouldn't have accidentally bumped into you."

"Even though it was an accident, it's still my fault. If I hadn't been careless, you wouldn't have slipped and fallen."

"I'm truly sorry, Ms. Johnson. I was wrong. I deeply regret it. Please forgive me. After all, we are colleagues."

Emily almost laughed in anger at Audrey's apology. She raised an eyebrow, a cold smile playing on her lips.

"Ms. Carroll, I don't get your apology."

"What?" Audrey's face turned even paler, her hatred for Emily growing. She felt Emily was deliberately messing with her.

Emily's voice had a hint of amusement, "Are you saying I fell because of my own carelessness?"

Audrey was horrified, clutching her clothes tightly, and continued to deny, "Yes... I did push you, Ms. Johnson, but you fell because you were careless."

To avoid further questioning from Emily, Audrey even started addressing her with formal respect.

But Emily was done being patient. "Ms. Carroll, you can't just say whatever you want. Are you claiming I intentionally fell? How do you explain the bruise on my abdomen from hitting the table corner during the fall? Did I fall with such force on my own?" Emily lifted her shirt to reveal the purple bruise on her abdomen.

The sight of the bruise made Raymond's expression darken instantly, his face turning grim.

Raymond turned to Audrey, veins bulging on his forehead, "Did you do this to my wife?"

Raymond's presence was so intimidating that his words sent a chill through everyone. Audrey was terrified, almost losing control of her bladder.

Her hands trembled, cold sweat forming on her forehead. She swallowed hard, trying to play the victim, "I didn't push that hard! Ms. Johnson, you can't accuse me like this!"

"I know you've always disliked me, but I wouldn't do anything to you in front of so many students!"

"I admit I was a bit impatient tonight, but I didn't mean any harm. I just pushed you a little. How could I have used that much force?"

Anyone unaware of the situation might have believed Emily was the villain, but the school leaders, especially Stanley, knew better.

Stanley's face was dark, sweat forming on his forehead. He felt like Audrey was dragging him down with her.

Raymond's expression was cold and emotionless, "So you're saying you lightly pushed my wife, and she intentionally fell, injuring herself and knocking over the bookshelf? Is that what you're saying?"

Audrey had hoped to twist the story, but hearing Raymond's words, she panicked completely.

Her hands and feet turned cold, her heart racing. Her face was as white as a sheet, but she forced herself to respond, "Yes... that's what happened. Ms. Johnson, I have no ill intentions. I know you're wealthy and powerful, but I'm just a regular teacher. Please don't ruin me. Forgive me, please?"

Emily almost laughed again. This was like blaming the victim.

Audrey, who had caused so much trouble, was now trying to play the victim. It was almost amusing.

But the more Audrey acted this way, the less Emily wanted to let her off easily. Audrey's behavior over the past few days had been disgusting enough.

"Ms. Carroll, are you saying I orchestrated all this to frame you? Is that what you mean?" Emily's voice was calm, her expression unreadable.

Audrey, already terrified, felt like a cornered animal. Emily's questioning made her hair stand on end.

The school leaders were thoroughly disgusted with Audrey at this point.

Stanley was furious, glaring at Audrey, "Ms. Carroll, you need to take responsibility for your words! This is not what you said before! If you continue like this, the school won't back you up! This is your personal behavior!"

Hearing "personal behavior" made Audrey even angrier. She turned to Stanley, "Stanley! I did everything for the institution! How can you say it's my personal behavior?"

Stanley felt a chill run through him, as if he was frozen from head to toe.

"Enough!" Raymond's shout made everyone's hearts sink, the atmosphere turning icy.

Raymond's cold eyes were terrifying as he looked at Audrey, "You still don't think you did anything wrong, do you? You're still slandering my wife."
