Chapter 59
Chapter 59
Aaron slowly stood from the sand. His sense of being watched made him look around. The flash of something shining caught his attention. His eyes follow noticing it was coming from the nearby boat. “Who the hell are you?” he asked the breeze.
The bullet hits the sand right beside him. He instantly moves running for the closest tree line. A second bullet whistles past his ear. As he turns around that’s when he saw Annie stood frozen on the beach. He didn’t even think twice as he run straight for her. The third bullet grazed his shoulder just as he dives pulling Annie down onto the ground. He covers her with his body. As he breath hard trying to control his heart beat, he felt an instant moment of familiarity. The moment in complete clarity, but that time she was on top of him. Before he could react, she jumped onto her feet running…
“Are you okay?” he asked softly well aware he might be crushing her smaller frame with the weight of him. He can actually hear her heart beat. He starts to notice how pale and shaken she looked. “Are you hurt?”
“No, just winded,” she whispered.
“I am sorry,” he slowly rolled from her frame. As he moved into a sitting position his eyes scanning the ocean but the boat has disappeared.
“You are bleeding,” she said softly.
“It’s nothing,” he said carelessly. Getting onto his feet he reached for her hand. “We should get off the beach,” he said matter of fact. His eyes still searching the area but it would appear they were currently alone.
“We should go back to the hotel,” she said softly. Her eyes on the red spot that seemed to spread across his shirt.
“Yes, I will walk you.” Aaron reaches for her hand sliding his fingers between hers.
Aaron has used the side entrance of the hotel. He wasn’t in the mood for any kind of questions. Her was keeping Annie close to his side. As he inserts his key code into the suite’s door, he hopes Zac wasn’t still in there.
“Come inside,” he stood aside allowing her entrance.
Annie just nods her head. Once the door closed behind them both, she quickly looks around in the suite. She briefly found herself back in Switzerland, the moment he steps from the shower with only a towel wrapped around his body. The very thought quickly made the heat spread through her body. She was instantly shy.
“Do you want something to drink?” he asked looking at her. He was aware of a shift in her behavior but wasn’t certain what.
“Water,” she said softly. She moved to sit down in the chair, her legs feeling shaky. She keeps watching him. There was a kind of familiarity between them but also a strained tension. She took the glass of water her eyes again on the red blood on his shirt. “You need to see a doctor,” she said softly.
Aaron looks at his shirt. He starts removing it before throwing it into the waste basket. He touches where the bullet has grazed his skin. “Ouch,” he said softly.
“Let me see that,” Annie was instantly on her feet. She has raised a little boy well aware of the scraps they can get into.
“It’s nothing, Annie,” he said sounding a bit uncertain. He looks at her questionly.
“Why do you sound so odd?” She now stood in front of him, her eyes searching his face.
Aaron has stepped into the bathroom unsure how to answer her. He caught sight of his reflection in the mirror. His hair was still covered in sand. His shoulder looks like it was splashed with red burn marks. He looks at his watch and remembers he has a meeting very soon. He didn’t even think just stripped the rest of his clothes before stepping under the water. Out of habit he simply left the door opened.
“Oh,” Annie said shocked.
Aaron’s hand froze mid reach for the shampoo bottle. He wipes the water from his eyes to look into her face turning red but surprisingly she didn’t look away. On sear impulse he reached for her pulling her into the shower. She was quickly drenched in water.
“What are you doing?” she asked shocked.
“Not sure,” he went about stripping the clothes from her body. His heated eyes quickly wonder over her body. He was quick to noticed a few selective scars but decided now wasn’t the time for questions.
“I have a meeting in less then an hour. You also have sand on you. Just thought you could use a shower.” He said matter of fact.
“You are right,” she said softly now taking the body shower from him. She quickly starts laddering her body. She makes a point of not looking at her own husband but the intent to do just that was strong.
“Annie,”
“Yes, Aaron?”
“Are we married?” he questions washing his hair.
“Yes and no,” she allows the water to rushed over her.
“What do you mean?” he now wipes the water from his eyes.
“I am not sure how to explain. There are fragments of memories that doesn’t make sense to me.” Her eyes carefully covering her breasts with her arms when she faced him.
“I don’t understand,” Aaron shut the water. He reached for a towel wrapping it around her with care. He then reached for a towel wrapping it around his hips.
Annie follows him into the bedroom. Her reactions were natural around him. Just a man and woman getting ready. A sense of belonging washes over her.
“I have these headaches sometimes,” she starts saying.
Aaron turns around going back into the bathroom reaching for his pants. He retrieves the small bottle of pills. Going back to her with it in hand. The moment her eyes landed on them he recognized the look.
“Annie, what do you know about how shared past? I can see you recognized these.” He opened his wardrobe pulling out a long white shirt. He gives this to her. “I am not sure what to do with underwear without alerting people you are here with me. I have the odd sense something was happening around us.” He said pulling on boxers. As he looks up, he caught her watching him with open curiosity. He suddenly stood still allowing her eyes to wanders over him. “You actually like me,” he said in wonder. “I am an old guy.” He said with shock in his voice.
Annie suddenly smiles. “I choose you. But then our lives raveled into disaster.” She has pulled the shirt on. It covers her body way past the buttocks. She then reached for his socks pulling it on. “Do you have any kind of type?”
“I am not sure,” he quickly went in search finding sellotape. Curiously he handed it to her. Now watching as she secures the socks beneath the shirt. In his eyes she looks adorable, hair curling around her shoulders.
“Annie, can we arrange somewhere to meet? You and I need to have a serious conversation.”
The ringing of the phone startled them both.
